9 to 5 Retreat is a three-bedroom home in a gated neighborhood above Douglas Lake, sleeping nine across six beds and three and a half bathrooms. A private path leads from the property down to the shoreline. There is no boat dock, so this is a walk-down-and-put-your-feet-in arrangement rather than a tie-up-the-boat one.
The lake views are seasonal. They are at their best in the cooler months once the leaves are down, and you get them from several rooms including the bedrooms, as well as from both decks. There are two fire pits out there, one gas on the patio and a wood-burning one facing the water.
Downstairs is the entertainment area with arcade games and a dedicated gym.
The main level is open-plan, with a kitchen built for a group to cook in together and windows across the back that bring the light and the view in. The master suite has a king bed, a walk-in shower and a jacuzzi tub. The other bedrooms have queen beds, with pull-out sofas for the extra space, which is what makes nine guests comfortable rather than crowded.
Outside there are two large decks and an open driveway with room to park without shuffling cars.
Being in a gated neighborhood off the tourist strips is the trade here. It is quieter than staying in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg, and you drive to the attractions rather than walk to them.
