We are so pleased your family of 10 enjoyed "Maine Stay" and the many amenities offered. "Maine Stay" has been in our family for 6 generations and we so enjoy sharing our beloved farmhouse each summer with guests. We reinvest our rental dollars to keep the property in tip top shape so we can continue to share and enjoy this treasure. Prior to the 2026 season starting, we replaced mattresses and installed a new induction stove. Knowing we have large families and/or friends visiting together, we decided it would be a good choice (along with all new cookware) as it blends an instant response time, easier clean up, environmental benefits and safety which is of utmost importance to us. We apologize that it was a bit frustrating for you. (We now have laminated instructions and the owners manual for quick reference in the kitchen) Our guests are our top priority and want you to have a wonderful and memorable experience when visiting "Maine Stay" and the 70 acres of beauty if offers. Dear Jeanne, We were so pleased to have you and appreciate your candid review. We have guests of all ages and demographics who have visited Maine Stay and have loved it and return year after year. Maine Stay is a 100 + year old, lovely farmhouse which comes with age and beauty. After the yearly expenses of taxes, insurance, labor, etc, we invest 100% of our rental income back into the property. We recently completed many exterior improvements which include just some of the following: All new energy efficient windows, a new roof, porch and barn repairs and all the many things that go hand and hand with a 100+ year old farmhouse. This along with maintaining 70 acres of land abutting both the ocean on the front and back side of the property for our guests to enjoy along with walking, hiking, blueberry, blackberry and raspberry picking and trails galore. We even offer small wedding venues (50-75 guests) and have had delighted couples and families who couldn't be happier with the dramatic setting and home. Our goal is to continuously improve Maine Stay for our guests who we share it with 5 months of each year. Starting November 1, the interior is in for a major upgrade which will last all winter. It has taken several years to plan and save for this exciting renovation. Maine Stay has a wonderful, committed crew who work tirelessly cleaning a very large, 5 bedroom, 3 bath home each week for our guests. This is no small feat as you can imagine most especially during the Covid era as we are following all the necessary cleaning precautions. We know old and perhaps dingy can sometimes feel dirty but I can "assure" you, Maine Stay is cleaned and sanitized each week. We have a professional laundry company who take care of the linens and follow CDC guidelines as do our cleaners. We know some of the trim paint is faded and some corners of the wallpaper are loose, but this is the exception, not the norm. The 3 full bathrooms we have for your use are supplied by well water which can stain the surfaces of porcelain and fiberglass and we are sorry you took this for not being clean. We have the water tested each year and is very safe. It does has a higher mineral content than public water which can lead to staining of things that are porous. (IE: tub/shower/sinks) The photos are very accurate and show the simple nature of the interior which is almost all original. We apologize that Maine Stay was not quite the right fit for you but do appreciate that you visited and had a good time.

Hi Christy, So happy your family and friends had a great time visiting the Acadia region and staying at "Maine Stay". We were thrilled to have you and hope you can return in the future! Glad we had a chance to communicate about your concerns. The couple of maintenance issues were addressed immediately and do thank you for bringing them to our attention. It is always our goal to have everything in tip top condition for our guests (Even though 'Maine Stay' is a century old, lovely farmhouse, it does have some creaks and squeaks)! Many homeowners on Newbury Neck have their fields mowed by one gentleman and he dictates the schedule as there are many hundreds of acres. He tries very hard to keep them as nice as possible as he knows many of us have guests such as yourself during the summer months. We were sorry you were a bit disappointed with our period, 1900 Farmhouse on 70 wooded and 'oceanfront' acres. "Maine Stay" does have the original patina of a lovely older home which our guests and family 'cherish' and it has been in our family for many generations. What we offer is a lovely older, well maintained home with original features which were perhaps not to your liking but we clearly represent the property with photos. Nothing is worn out, broken or in disrepair. We are a family who after taxes, insurance and labor costs, re-invest 'all' our rental dollars back into the property by upgrading each season; New windows, roofing, renovation of the barn, new appliances, and the upkeep of 70 acres for our guests to enjoy. Unlike most rentals, we are able to offer acres of trails, wild blueberry fields, raspberry and blackberries for you to enjoy and the ocean on both the front of the property and the rear of the property with a very private beach! Yes, you do need to walk down the driveway to access the ocean, then you have miles of private beach to enjoy kayaking, swimming and beach combing. The cottage is located at the end of the lovely Newbury Neck peninsula in Surry which is 9 miles long and once on the main road, (Rt 172) you are approximately 22 miles to the entrance of Acadia. It is all 2 lane country roads which is why is takes about 45-55 minutes to get to. The sweeping ocean views at 'Maine Stay' are sited on the mountains of Acadia. Many of our guests visit Maine to get away from the commercial world and are happy not to be 'too close to all amenities'. We did not know you wanted to be close to restaurants which was never brought up to us. We spoke several times prior to your visit and were happy to make sure we had a high- chair, pack n' play, baby gates and even a place for your camper. We did our best to accommodate your large family and were so pleased to have you. We do wish you would have contacted us as soon as you got to 'Maine Stay' so we could have made your visit more enjoyable. We are available day or night to accommodate our guests should there ever be a problem or concern.
