Playa Caribe 2 is a ground-floor condo at the heart of Half Moon Bay, offering a central location with direct access to the pool and beach. Designed to sleep up to five, this two-bedroom retreat blends comfort and Caribbean charm.

The primary bedroom features a king bed with ensuite bath, while the guest bedroom includes a double bed, twin sofa bed, and private bath—ideal for families or groups of friends. Both bedrooms have an ocean view and walk-out access to the pool area. Central AC cools both bedrooms and the open-plan living spaces. The kitchen is thoughtfully equipped with an electric stove, full-size refrigerator, and a breakfast bar overlooking the turquoise bay, making meal prep part of the experience.

The private patio is furnished with loungers and a BBQ grill, with an outdoor shower nearby for rinsing off after the beach. Guests enjoy daily housekeeping, purified water, beach towels, and onsite concierge support. Parking is included, and the team can assist with tours, grocery delivery, or transportation.

Half Moon Bay is a tranquil neighborhood with soft sand mixed with coral rock, great for snorkeling—water shoes are recommended. From Playa Caribe 2, you can walk to Yal Ku Lagoon, Akumal Bay, shops, and restaurants. For adventures beyond Akumal, a rental car or private driver is suggested, though taxis are readily available and public transport runs along the highway. Playa Caribe’s reputation for service and location makes this condo a trusted favorite.

KINDLY NOTE: South winds may bring Sargasso Seaweed to some beaches throughout the Caribbean, including the Rivera Maya. While the situation is hard to predict for each specific week and area, we would like you to be aware as there is the potential to impact the beach and water entry.

Incredible location

The condo is located right on the beach and by the pool. It was great to have that convenience. We really enjoyed snorkeling in the bay and seeing coral and small fish. My family and I enjoyed exploring the Half Moon Bay area and restaurants. We ate at La Buena Vida, La Lunita and the Turtle Bay Bakery. All were very good with great atmospheres. It was wonderful to hear the waves crashing every night as I fell asleep. In addition, the staff at the complex was really helpful and friendly. I would definitely come here again and will recommend it to friends and family!

Property was ok kind of dated, beautiful view of the Bay Beach was not what we were expecting, not very appealing to me. Also being on the ground floor next to the pool was very loud, which took away from the beauty of the Bay,not able to enjoy the peacful surroundings.

There are also several restaurants in the area, that we highly recommend. David and everyone at Akumal Direct were amazing. They were able to help with excursions but also with just simple questions we had about the area. If you dont rent a car, have David help rent a golf cart. It's perfect for getting around. We also suggest you get some Pecos or smaller bills for tipping before getting to the area. We HIGHLY recommend Akumal Direct.

A Wonderful Experience!

This is the second time that we have stayed at Playa Caribe. The Condo's decor is exactly as you see in the featured pictures and have a nice authentic "Mexican" feel to them. Everyone is very friendly and we always felt safe. This time we didn't stop for groceries on our way in, but brought shopping bags with us and picked up everything we needed at the general store by the arches or the little convenience store near the condo. At night, we took our meals mostly at La Buena Vida which has a breezy hobo chic style to it. The food was always good. During the day we hung out at the beach or the pool, and we also arranged through David at Akumal Direct for a couples massage, and on another day for a facial/mani/pedi. Reasonable and fun! We really enjoyed our holiday and will be back!

BEAUTIFUL!!

Pictures do not do this apartment justice. After staying for a few nights we were dreaming of what it would be like to own our own place just like this in half moon bay. Communication from the host was excellent. Response time was within a few minutes for anything we could have needed. There was only one hiccup with the host confirming we would have a travel crib upon arrival but we weren't able to get it until the next day. It didn't even matter that we didn't have the crib the first night as there was enough space for all of us to sleep and live comfortably. We loved being on the ground floor with easy access to the pool and beach. We cooked all meals at home and used the grill our last night to make a delicious surf and turf meal. The location couldn't be any better. So close to Yal Kul and beautiful reefs available to explore right off the beach. The extra sand toys available made it easy for our youngest to stay busy on the beach. We absolutely loved our stay and hope to come back soon.

Still Love Akumal, but it’s changed

This was our 4th Akumal visit, 3rd to PC, The good, town is lovely and has managed to stay small, sea is beautiful, people are warm and helpful, restaurants are all beautiful. The bad, 1) the bus loads of visitors everyday have left the coral in Half Moon and Akumal Bays damaged badly; 2) the intensity of sales as you enter town and walk on Akumal Bay is way up; 3) the seaweed storm was very bad and made the beach on Half Moon Bay unuasable. The condo associations need to find a way to address the seaweed when it comes, since it comes every year. Our best memory from last visits was snorkeling from the beach in front of the condo, which was impossible due to seaweed. Playa Caribe is still a great place to stay and excellent value. The kitchens/baths are due for updates, but everything worked fine and manager and staff were great.

Great beach holiday, especially in the low season

The beach unfortunately has been significantly eroded due to hurricanes and sargassum, so the photo depicted is not what it looks like today. Snorkeling and swimming in the bay is still possible and the recent installation of the barrier seems to be having an effect on preventing the Sargassum somewhat. The turtles are still nesting and hatching which is a bonus. There's loads to do apart from swimming in the bay and we found a great Cenote just north of the town of Akumal called Puerto Maya, inexpensive and not crowded. Yal-Ku lagoon is worth a visit for snorkeling but go early before the big groups get there. We discovered some great restaurants in Akumal town, just over the bridge, Cuvea for fish tacos and Xmirnas Cafe Town for pizza. Jungle Fish Beach Club is worth a visit for lunch/dinner, swim and relax. Tony, the owner is so accommodating and the fish is fresh and delicious. Le Buena Vida is still a great local restaurant and has a great Happy Hour. There's a new outdoor gym which is very cool and a new coffee shop which has great coffee and yummy pastries. Akumal Direct were great to work with regarding booking our condo, car rental, airport transfer and general suggestions. I would absolutely recommend their services. This was our 6th trip to Akumal and Half Moon Bay and we had a enjoyable, relaxing, fun filled 2 week vacation.

LACK OF DISCLOSURE

Entering the condo we were overcome by a strong smell of mildew. After opening the doors, it remained strong, and my friend got an upper respiratory infection overnight. Both bathrooms had two steep steps to access, none of which were noted in the rental description. Also the 2 bathrooms featured showers w/steep steps down to access. No grab-bars to assist in/out of shower and slick when wet. This rental is NOT appropriate for those w/mobility issues or children. Akumal Direct, moved us to another unit for a few nights while deep cleaning the original rental. They were unable to find another ground-floor unit for us to rent being high season so we moved back into the unit with the hazardous showers that my friend could not access. The property manager and housekeepers we pleasant and accommodating, but Akumal Direct didn’t seem too concerned with addressing our issues and rectifying the situation. Lastly, the unit is steps from the pool which is available to all staying at Playa Caribe so be prepared for people walking across the porch to access the pool and lots of people/children within earshot. Lessons learned: DO NOT rent a non-refundable unit and ASK if it is safe for older travelers. While Akumal Direct claimed the bathrooms were clearly depicted in the rental description, THEY WERE NOT.

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: LACK OF DISCLOSURE. When we entered the condo we were overcome by the strong smell of mildew. Thinking it would subside by opening the doors, it remained strong, resulting in my companion contracting an upper respiratory infection overnight. We also discovered the two bathrooms featured tile showers with steep steps down to access. There were no grab-bars to assist one in or out of the shower and the tile becomes quite slicK. The bathroom door in one bath opened right up into the deep-dropped shower presenting a serious fall hazard. Both bathrooms also have two steep steps to access, none of which were noted in the rental description. This rental should NOT be considered if the renter has mobility issues or children. The property management company, Akumal Direct, arranged for a transfer for a few nights to another unit while working with the property to remove all the linens that were mildewed and deep clean the unit. They were unable to find another unit for us to move into due to being high season. Because the rental fee was nonrefundable and Akumal Direct was unable to find any other option in Akumal, we were required to move back into the unit with the hazardous showers that my companion could not access. The property manager and housekeepers were mindful and did everything they could to make our stay pleasant, but Akumal Direct didn’t seem too concerned with addressing our issues and rectifying the situation. And lastly, the unit is steps from the pool which is available to all tenets staying at Playa Caribe so be prepared for lots of people walking across your porch to access the pool and lots of people/children within earshot. Akumal becoming our favorite

Our Condo is located right in front of the beach and next to the pool. We were notified in advance about the Sargasso Sea weed. The time of year dictates if this would be a problem. We got in the heavy time but the boys on the beach sprayed it so we had no odor. Maybe a couple times for an hour or so. We loved snorkeling in the Cenote’s and rented a golf cart to go to all the amazing restaurants. Lol Ha our favorite. My brother and I went fishing with Loipuis JR. caught a 130lb Sail fish! Amazing day the help is amazing our room was cleaned day.

Direct beach access

Really awesome direct beachfront condo. Very easy access, and in quiet Akumal. Lovely breezes across the bay every day. Unfortunately, there was a seaweed bloom that dumped a foot deep of material on the beach every day while we were there, but the location was nonetheless impressively beautiful.

The property is clean and management is very attentive. The only concerns were the refrigerator could use replacing as it was not level and the air conditioner was quite loud. The manager did have the a/c checked the day we asked about it but was going to take several hours so we passed on having it taken care of during our stay and just got used to it. He was also very helpful in scheduling our Covid tests even though we had to have it on a Sunday. We loved meeting other guests around the pool and on the beach.

Great Spot

The Condo was everything we expected. Excellent location right in the middle of the bay and the staff was very helpful and attentive. We only had a couple things pop up that needed attention and the response was very quick from managemtent. Highly recommend.

Relaxing

This condo was clean and cute as described. We loved the convenience to town and restaurants. I would highly recommend it. The staff was really friendly and helpful. I will book this condo again. Proximity to pool . Morning visit from my favorite iguana “Maynard”

Akumal Paradise

Thanks to the Flakes for sharing their beautiful condo. We love the location and neighborhood. The condo has everything most would want for a beach vacation. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking if you want to. Having the reverse osmosis water was a fantastic feature. The staff were very helpful, reliable and a pleasure to work with. We would love to come back!

Serenity by the Sea

For my first visit to the Yucatan Peninsula, I chose this property because of my desire to by steps from the ocean, a pool for my daughter, ability to watch sunrises, peace, safe environment, away from major mega tourist traps, snorkeling walking distance and a comfortable practical place to spend my days. I’m hesistant to write such a good review as I don’t want to let the secret out of the bag. Playa Caribe met all of my expectations and then some. It’s location, peacefulness, design, pool, staff and communication with the owner. Tip Hilda every day, she’ll appreciatte it. Be kind to the area as we are only visiting ths beautiful planet for a short while. “Can’t take it with you.”
