Great place to stay. I thought it was in a neighborhood, but it is actually on the side of the mountain. It had a great view from the deck and a gas grill. the hot tub was very welcome after hiking Half Dome. If I had a suggestion or two, it would be to improve the Wi-Fi strength and the beds were not super comfortable. But overall, it was a great stay.

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOST. Our stay was ruined by a total lack of communication and support.After a long day at Yosemite, the water to the entire house shut-off during showers. I called all 5 (!!!) numbers listed but none were answered, no voicemails were returned, and one of the numbers was actually disconnected. I messaged an urgent request to the host in the VRBO app that night and still have received zero responses to that or any of the subsequent messages in the 5 days since. VRBO support also asked the host to respond. Zero response.The water DID start working a bit later that night during which time we found another review that had the same issue. The host should have provided a warning or solution.Beds: scratchy & unfitted linens, cheap mattresses, and sleeping 10 as advertised is only possible if you move one hide-a-bed across the room.Wifi: extremely slow and unreliable. I'm sure wifi options are very limited, but the extremely dated router & modem exacerbate the situation in an area with no cell service.Appliances: the dishwasher and washing machine are both musty and left clothes and dishes smelling unclean. A/C: the thermostat was set to 80 degrees when we checked in. Since it was 90 degrees outside, it didn't cool off until late in the night.Some simple fixes and competent hosting would make this an ideal house house with two primary bedrooms, three full baths, and extremely convenient access to the park. It's a shame.

Great Yosemite Hideaway

This property is accessed by pulling through a campground area and older maps may not show that the location is accessible, but we had no real problem finding it. The road is somewhat steep and might be a challenge for small cars if snow or inclement weather was in effect. There is a steep set of stairs to the front and side doors. The home is spacious and well appointed, having been added on to. Access to Yosemite is ready to hand and this location is a great base from which to explore. We enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful property

This home is beautiful and actually more spacious than the pictures indicate. It was clean and had everything we needed but it’s best quality was its proximity to Yosemite. It’s just 10 minutes from the entrance and made it a breeze to get in and out of the park.

Terrific

This place is out of the way and when you pull up you wonder if you’ve made a mistake. But when you get inside and you’ll be very pleased by what you find. We enjoyed our stay very much. The appliances were new and it was well stocked with everything you will need.

Neighbor annual trip

Our group was 3 couples 60. Location was awesome which got us to Yosemite gate in 20 min. Property very private/quiet with a nice deck to hang out. The instructions to find property could be better. We enjoyed our stay overall however we did have some issues with property i.e. no propane for grill, main TV didn’t work, screen door to hot tub missing handle amount a few others that should have been checked before our arrival
..we communicated via VRBO site to get resolved with no response. Was able to reach host directly via text but responses were still unreliable. Issues were resolved but not until end of our stay. Cell service was very spotted so that may have been part of issue but we didn’t have any issues communicating to our host for our next VRBO stay using the VRBO site??

Great Family home

Not much to look at from the outside and up a very steep road, but inside was a fully stocked house with all the fixings. Beds were comfortable, house was very clean and air conditioning worked, which was needed since it was 103 outside. Not sure we would want to walk back from the swimming pool down the hill, due to how steep the dirt road is, but great to have the pool available. We would definitely stay there again.

El Portal Home

This house was great for our large family group of 8. Location was great-be aware the road is a bit of a vertical challenge. Directions could be more specific as we missed the turn. You're actually turning into a camping facility. The road goes all the way thru it. There's nothing near by for shopping but a small store and gas station. Might plan for groceries in a bigger town. Great for getting to the park - close and easy. Pull out beds weren't comfortable at all. Also the tvs didn't work. Would recommend this property.

Wonderful house

We really enjoyed our stay at Hite's Hideaway. The house was spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. The kitchen had everything necessary for cooking meals. We even used the barbeque. The backyard was great for spotting birds (California quail, woodpeckers and jays). It had convenient access to the west Yosemite entrance. Would definitely stay there again.

Hites hideout

Our grandkids loved the game room and the big bathtub! This was a clean and comfortable home for ourselves, kids and grandkids to stay at while visiting Yosemite. The steep dirt road to access the house can be a bit challenging but it’s not a long way to go. We all enjoyed it and it is only about 7 miles to the Yosemite park boundary.

Perfect retreat outside Yosemite

What a beautiful house up on the hill above the Merced River. This was the perfect retreat after a few days in the backcountry. It was very close to the main entrance of the park and gave us quick access to the Valley. Everything was clean and ready for our stay. Our friends were saying how they'd like to come back because it's the perfect house in the perfect location.

Relaxing get away

We loved staying here. It was perfect for our group! The deck was amazing and the grill out there. We spent every evening out there and the mosquitoes weren't even bad. The hot tub was a bonus! It's very quiet and secluded which we loved. It is also easy to get to Yosemite. Make sure you bring towels for the pool and hot tub.
