Spacieuse ferme charentaise entre champs de tournesols et vignobles

Datant d'environ 1900, cette ferme charentaise est situĂ©e dans un petit hameau au milieu des champs de tournesols et de vignes, en retrait d'une petite route. Une restauration soignĂ©e et de bon goĂ»t a abouti Ă  une maison trĂšs attrayante, joliment amĂ©nagĂ©e pour offrir un hĂ©bergement de trĂšs haut niveau. Un mĂ©lange de mobilier traditionnel et contemporain se combine avec des pierres apparentes et des plafonds avec poutres apparentes pour donner une ambiance de «campagne» confortable et le tout est impeccablement conservĂ©. Une belle terrasse couverte (environ 4m50 x 8m) offre un espace abritĂ© pour les repas en plein air, tandis qu'au-delĂ  se trouve un jardin colorĂ© de 900 mÂČ avec pelouse et jolis arbustes Ă  fleurs. La famille du propriĂ©taire vit dans une ancienne grange amĂ©nagĂ©e Ă  proximitĂ©, au-delĂ  de laquelle se trouve dans le champ leur Ăąne de compagnie «Oscar», du nom duquel ils ont nommĂ© le gĂźte «Ferme d'Oscar». Le cadre est privĂ© (le voisin le plus proche est Ă  environ 10m Ă  l'arriĂšre de la propriĂ©tĂ© mais aucune fenĂȘtre ne donne sur le jardin) et paisible.

Taxe de location: 0,80 euros par personne et par jour (+ 18 ans)

ÉlectricitĂ© sur compteur Ă  rĂ©gler en fin de sĂ©jour sur place. (inclure en juin, juillet, aoĂ»t et septembre).

La casa es preciosa y estĂĄ estupendamente decorada. Muy acogedora. Dispone de todo lo necesario para una estancia. Hemos pasado unos dĂ­as estupendos. Buen tiempo, lugares increĂ­bles.... Recomendable al cien por cien.

A very comfortable gite in a beautiful region

The gite is well equipped, clean and comfortable. It was great to have 3 bedrooms and three badrooms! The property is spacious and the surroundings are quiet. The covered terrace is a a real pleasure. There is a lot to see in the Saintonge: churches, castles, gallo-roman remains (for example an amphi-theatre, acquaduct) and lovely towns. The coast is not too far away and the beaches are very nice. Bordeaux is about 75 minutes by car. We used the Parc & Relais Les Lauriers where we parked the car and travelled by tram to the city centre. Anne and her mother are great hosts: friendly and very helpfull, giving a lot of information about the region. Thank you for your hospitality and a relaxing stay at your gite!

The area is beautiful, very peaceful and relaxing. The property is spacious, and relaxing. There is a large patio area to enable to sit and eat outside. It is partially covered giving good protection for the heat of the sun, and rain, should it occur. Thisi is our second visit, and if you are looking ofr a peaceful relaxing holiday I woud strongly recommend it.

Perfect gite in stunning area!

This gite provided very comfortable accommodation in a truly beautiful area. We could not have wished for anything. The gite has been extremely well renovated to provide comfort and very tasteful decor. It was extremely well equipped and seemed every detail had been considered to give guests every possible comfort. The covered outside eating area was a real bonus and very well used into the evenings. The gite is on a very quiet road that gave perfect tranquility with only a short walk to bakers for fresh bread and breakfast treats, but is situated so that a huge variety of places to visit and activities to suit all tastes are easily accessible by car in the area. Anne and her mum were very helpful and friendly, leaving us safe in the knowledge they were available if needed but completely unobtrusive. Ideal hosts! Thank you for the freshly picked cucumbers and plums! Would highly recommend a visit to the Cognac producer, M. Baudry in the village. Very friendly and relaxed as were with all the people we met in the area. Only disappointment about our stay was that it was only for one week! Cannot wait to return!

Delightful Property

Having first visited this lovely house in 2002, we have returned many times. From the first we felt totally at home in this well equipped, roomy farmhouse - it is rare to find three en suite rooms and the decoration is delightful. The large, covered terrace means that eating and sitting out becomes an all-day activity! The surrounding countryside is gentle and appealing and there are plenty of local walks. The churches of the Saintonge are fascinating and there is lots of interest in the local towns of St Jean d'Angély and Saintes - not to mention Cognac and its area. Trips further afield to la Rochelle or the Ile de Ré (about an hour and a half away) are also well worthwhile. Add to this the warm welcome (second to none) from the Gauthier family, who have become our friends. We would recommend this house whole-heartedly - and we hope to return again! Idyllic

Very enjoyable stay. Brilliant having Simone nearby for extra valuable and local information. The house was excellent, very clean and very well equipped. Having a bathroom for each bedroom, wonderful. We had a full house each week. The cottage has been very well maintained and it was lovely meeting Anne and Simon and they're lovely family the second Week. We were very grateful for all the baby equipment they provided for my 5 month old grandson.i would definitely recommend this property to friends. We visited the local restaurant which was excellent. We also went to the local pool, and of course the daily walk to the Boulanger. Thank you for an excellent 2week visit.

Exceptional Gite. Highly recommended

We spent an amazing week at this lovely gite. Having visited France many times for gite holidays over the years and whilst our children were small we can honestly say this is the nicest gite we have ever stayed in. It is well equipped, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and so accessible to activities, attractions and restaurants. Anne was extremely helpful and gave us lots of tips of places to visit plus the information provided in the gite was excellent. Almost Perfect Holiday

The previous reviews give an accurate reflection of La Ferme d’Oscar and the area. We have spent many holidays in France and the UK in rented houses. This is one of the very best in every respect. From our first enquiry, Anne answered all of our questions in a prompt and friendly manner. Within minutes of arriving her mother came to greet us and to show us around the house. But as the other reviewers have said, she was then completely unobtrusive. The house has been decorated and furnished stylishly – we loved the paintings particularly. The upstairs bedrooms have low sloping ceilings and it must be said that contact was made on several occasions! The exterior is equally impressive and the covered patio area is a real bonus. The closest shop in St.Hilaire is one of the two boulangeries, both of which are excellent and staffed by friendly people. It is a pleasant 10-minute walk from the house, with the other shops being another couple of minutes further. The road on which the house is situated is very quiet with just a very occasional vehicle passing. The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding towns and markets: St.Jean, Saintes and Cognac are all very pleasant and are short drives along roads that are relatively traffic free by UK standards. We have revisited a house in France only once in twenty plus years. La Ferme d’Oscar is likely to be the second!

Idyllic rural France

If you want to stay in a lovely, well-equipped and tastefully furnished property in a rural setting but within easy reach of the beach, then look no further! We have just returned from a fantastic two week holiday here with our two teenage daughters and couldn't fault it. There is loads to do and see in this region. Local markets everywhere; shopping opportunities in the bigger towns of Saintes and Royan; beaches galore along the Gironde coast, from Meschers to Ile de Re, not to mention just chilling on the lovely terrace at the house. We were warmly welcomed and knew that we had help on hand should we need it but, as said in a previous review, this wasn't obtrusive. We wouldn't hesitate in booking again should we decide to return to this region and clearly wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to anyone wanting a peaceful "home from home".

Happy holiday in Charente

This lovely gite exceeded our expectations. It is very well equipped and furnished in all the rooms and the undercover patio area. The owners were very welcoming but unobtrusive. Free bicycle loan allowed us to explore the local area on the many quiet roads and tracks. St Hilaire is a good centre to visit Cognac, Rochefort/La Rochelle and the Gironde coast. There are good markets, restaurants and shopping in St Jean d'Angely and Saintes, both within 30 minutes drive. We were happily occupied for an extended holiday of 8 weeks.
