Peaceful quaint and just what the doctor ordered!

We have had a wonderful two weeks in Pleuville and were delighted with the property, hospitality and local area. Susan and Alan kept us well informed of goings on in and around the chateau and brought fresh home grown produce periodically throughout our stay. Great holiday all round, thank you to you both!

Thanks for the nice comments. This was a large group with four adults and four children. Stuck to the rules and left the gite in good order. Helped us out with pool routines etc. All fine.

Pleuville

Lovely gîte and pool. Great cycling, running and walking. No significant WiFi most of the time but otherwise everything worked perfectly.

Lovely Gite

Really lovely gite with good sized bedrooms and really comfy beds. Well equipped kitchen. Pool area was great, with plenty of loungers, parasols and tables. Very easy to find. Susan and Alan were there if needed (we didn't need them, as had no issues) but not at all intrusive. Susan's pottery is lovely. Some pretty villages nearby to visit. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful house in quiet country location with lovely heated swimming pool. Very helpful owner.

Just returned from two week stay, sharing with friends. Beautiful barn conversion with great, heated swimming pool that has a pool room with shower/ toilet attached. Very nice inside with a good kitchen/ living area and the bedrooms were all lovely with comfortable beds. Well equipped with washing machine/ dishwasher and DVD player/ screen on the wall. The owner was helpful and friendly and provided croissants/ bread and jam on arrival which was a very nice touch. Would recommend Adventure Park and Confelons for kayaking and great restaurant in Civray called Hotel Commerce. Would definitely go back.

So glad you had a good time, The weather in this last fortnight has been hotter than I can remember for some time. I am so glad you have enjoyed the activities available around here, there is lots to do with active children, and the Charente has very attractive countryside, and so many picturesque small villages. Thankyou for looking after our gite and pool while you were here, you are the type of guests that we would be happy to see again! Hope you had a good journey home. Merci beaucoup Suzan et Alan pour votre charmant accueil, et votre discrétion. Votre propriété est magnifique, merci de nous avoir laissés en profiter sans restriction. De même pour la piscine. Le logement est agréable, suffisamment grand, avec le charme de l'ancien et le confort nécessaire. Rien ne manque, nous avons apprécié le bel espace extérieur et le calme absolu, en pleine campagne. Repos et détente au programme, pour un séjour réussi. Les enfants ont beaucoup aimé leur après-midi dans l'atelier poterie, merci beaucoup Suzan! Nous reviendrons avec plaisir!

Wonderful stay with our friends - this barn conversion has absolutely everything you could wish for in order to have a wonderful time in rural France. Special thanks to Susan for all her recomendations and help during our stay - we look forward to coming back in future years.

Peaceful & quiet location

We all enjoyed the pool - really good idea having the pool wet room. Loads of crockery & cooking utensils. Very quiet rural location but great to be able to walk to Brigitte for bread & croissants (& anything else you might have forgotten).

Hi, so glad you enjoyed your stay here in the North Charente. The countryside is particularly beautiful, and we are always delighted when families find lots to do very locally. With our interest in old buildings, we have been excited to see unexpected and "hidden " places opening their doors, and more outside activities for active families. This property met all our needs

We had no complaints apart from the weather (worst thunder storms for 5 years!) The house, pool and grounds were ideal. Susan and Alan were great host and there to help out when needed. We would highly recommend this property.

Lovely peaceful place

Very spacious gite with good social space indoors and out. Clean and full of character. The pool is a good size, with comfortable furniture and the trampoline was a big hit with a little one. The owners are very knowledgable about the area which has very interesting small towns - highlight for me was a personal and free tour of the ruined Abbaye in Charroux. Definitely recommended for anyone who enjoys peaceful rural France with plenty to see in the area.

Many thanks, so glad you enjoyed yourselves, despite the rain in June!?! We take great pleasure in talking about all the things there are to do in this region, and then hearing about our guest's experiences. We are still finding new places and restaurants to visit, despite this being somewhat off the beaten track. And the countryside is very beautiful, with small fields and hamlets, lots of cows, and fields of sunflowers in the summer.

Superb property in beautiful setting, recommended!

We spent 2 weeks at this beautiful property and would recommend it wholeheartedly! It was spotless on arrival, very spacious (much more than perhaps the pictures suggest) and was extremely well equipped with everything we could need, down to little touches like moulds to make ice lollies which the children loved! The property was beautifully refurbished with masses of character and charm, with a perfect balance of old and new. The swimming pool and its surrounds were definitely the best we have been to in our several visits to France. The pool was large with easy steps in, absolutely spotless each day, everything was very new with comfortable loungers and parasols as well as a super shower room and toilet adjoining it. The pool is unheated but when the weather is hot and sunny, it is perfectly refreshing!, and the children were in and out of it constantly, rain or shine! We loved exploring the grounds of the chateau which were rich with wildlife. We enjoyed each evening sitting out to a clear sky, stargazing, listening to the crickets and the local toad population, watching bats circling around and waiting for the owl to go out on its nightly hunt. Wonderful! Susan and Alan were fantastic hosts, and Susan was so helpful in offering guidance on the surrounding areas, where to go, what to do and a fountain of knowledge! We were lucky enough to be able to sample her delicious homemade jams and fresh produce from the garden, and fell in love with her pottery! The area is typical rural France, lots of sunflowers and sweetcorn, quiet villages and hamlets, lovely churches etc but plenty of places to visit of interest. We most enjoyed the wonderful sculpture garden at Bioussac, Nanteuil en Vallee, Verteuil sur Charente and a fantastic arbor adventure at the Haute lakes. Our son also loved cycling up to the nearby football pitch and practising his rainbow flicks! We took our bikes, and the area was great for cycling with plenty of fairly flat, quiet country lanes, perfect for a young family. Pleuville is a very quiet village but at its heart, has a lovely bar and tabac run by Bridget, who was so helpful and ordered us in croissants and baguettes each day as required. We also enjoyed an early evening drink there. Overall,we could not recommend this property more highly, as long as peace, quiet and tranquility is what you are after! We loved it and hope to return again in the future. Thank you so much for a most enjoyable stay!

It was a great pleasure to welcome this family to our gîte, and to hear their obvious enjoyment of their activities in the region from day to day. They wanted to visit both places of interest, and places offering activities or new experiences for the children, but also made the gîte their own, using the (fairly basic) barbecue, exploring in the park, and thank you for watering the flowers! They have obvious experience of previous holidays in France, which may help in giving a feel for how things work, it was good to hear their views on things that we like here. Many thanks for leaving the place beautifully clean and tidy, thank you for your feedback on the facilities, and 5 gold stars for being exemplary guests!
