Downedge - une maison qui dort 13 invités dans 6 chambres

Downedge est approché via sa propre allée privée à un grand cercle de rotation avec beaucoup d'espace pour les voitures de se garer. À l’intérieur, le logement comprend six chambres, quatre salles de bain, trois chambres avec salle de bains privative, quatre salles de réception, certaines avec des cheminées à foyer ouvert, toutes dotées de grandes fenêtres laissant entrer la lumière naturelle. Au rez-de-chaussée, vous trouverez un salon confortable avec une cheminée à foyer ouvert et une vue sur le jardin, une salle de musique, une salle de jeux pour enfants, une salle à manger formelle et une fabuleuse cuisine familiale. La cuisine a une cuisinière à gaz, des surfaces de travail en bois, une table de cuisine de ferme avec beaucoup de sièges et s'ouvre directement sur le jardin massif. Il y a une buanderie séparée et un garde-manger et un vestiaire en bas.

À l’étage se trouvent six grandes chambres, trois avec salle de bains privative et une autre salle de douche au rez-de-chaussée.

En dehors des jardins matures sont totalement isolés avec un bel espace aménagé pour prendre vos repas en plein air juste à côté de la cuisine, ainsi que d'une salle de jeux récemment complétée avec un grand billard américain et des tables de ping-pong.

C'est la maison parfaite et l'emplacement idéal pour profiter de tout ce que l'île de Wight a à offrir.

Fabulous large house and grounds

Downedge is a large, comfortable family house where we walked through the door and immediately felt at home. The kitchen is very well equipped. Our three generation family of 10 had plenty of space for eating, sleeping and socialising.

Excellent space and well equipped

Our multi-generational family group enjoyed having plenty of space inside and outside the property. The large kitchen table was brilliant for family meals. The house was well equipped with everything we needed to accommodate, entertain and cater for everyone.

A fabulous period home nestled in Brading, East access to several walks, including Brading Downs, Culver and the beaches at Yaverland and Sandown. The house is a fabulous size, and perfect for a family getaway.the

Great week in Brading

We had an excellent week in this fabulous house with its amazing garden. Facilities inside and out, were very good. The house was peaceful with easy access to beach towns via bus service. We recommend The Yarbridge pub for drink and really good food.

Downedge house suited are needs perfectly. Lovely grounds and facilities. Enjoyed a game of croquet, table tennis and darts. Good for walks to coast and view point. Great local pub with superb food (Yarbridge inn).

Beautiful old house. Spacious. Very well equipped kitchen. very well equipped games room.. mattresses and pillows lumpy. Dirty in some areas.

Fantastic house

This beautiful old house was the perfect place for 3 families to gather. The garden and games room provided lots of entertainment. The kitchen was a great hub for everyone to gather and had so much equipment and dishes etc. Having a separate lounge and another dining room was great for the kids to be able to play board games and chill out. The fireplace in the other lounge was lovely on a spring evening when the temperature dropped. The house was very cosy and the beds were very comfortable. The house is old so some of the decoration was a tired and the house a bit dusty. We had lots of ladybirds also staying! However this didn't impact out stay and we would have loved to know a little about the people in the old photos and olympic badges around the house! Google maps needs updating with the location as it wasn't easy to find. Or maybe provide a 'what three words' to help navigation.

Lovely and super-practical homely house for exploring IoW

A beautiful family home with an absolutely great layout - lovely big eat in kitchen (the photos don't quite do the size justice) and huge garden (which, despite being on a steep slope, has large terraced sections for games - including football goals which our kids loved!) As others have mentioned the kitchen is really well equipped: you have everything you need to make whatever you want (including e.g. air fryer, meat thermometer, scales, all possible pots/pans/dishes). Because the weather was so lovely we spent most of our time at the house there, but there is also a formal dining room (with gong! Makes an excellent room for board games and jigsaws as there is plenty of space to eat in the kitchen), a TV room/snug, a music room (complete with piano and accordion) and sitting room. So even with terrible weather there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out (even before you get to the games room in the garden with pool/snooker, ping pong and darts). Plus a utility room right by the kitchen which is always a bonus. We really enjoyed the wildlife too: the garden boasted red squirrels, rabbits, bats and buzzards. The house is really well located - just a 10 minute drive from Yaverland beach, which the kids really enjoyed and the roman villa down the hill (just a 10 minute walk away) was really interesting and well presented with lovely volunteers bringing the whole thing to life. Bembridge offers a lovely local high street (again about 10-15 minutes drive away) - the fishmonger and baker were particularly good - but there are also lovely knick-knack shops and a pharmacy. For other items there is a huge Tesco 10-15 minutes drive towards Ryde. But with a car we found the house very accessible to everywhere on the island and covered all four corners during our week (Compton Bay beach was a highlight).

An excellent holiday

Downedge is a comfortable house which feels more like a home than a holiday rental house. Large bed rooms, plenty of downstairs rooms if you need them and a huge garden with lots of space for children. The kitchen is one of its main attractions. Large, bright and really well equipped with good quality stuff.

Extended family holiday

This is our second stay at Downedge because it has the capacity for our extended family. We love the big and fully equipped kitchen plenty of room around the large table. The garden is amazing and love the garden furniture. We now own an electric car and it would be perfect if we could charge overnight on a charger on the property as the electric charging points on the Isle of Wight are few and far between.

Long weekend with friends

This is the fourth time I have stayed at Downedge over the years. It’s a great size house in a great location and well equipped. I really noticed this time that it needs some TLC and a deep clean. There were lots of cobwebs and dust. The stair carpets are very frayed and there were lots of leak stains on the ceiling. We didn’t use the front room as the sofas are very uncomfortable.

Fantastic base for IOW Festival

12 of us spent 5 nights at the property as a base for the festival, didn't want to camp!! The location was very good and took about 15 minutes to the drop off point, in the car or taxi, the bus however did take about an hour. The dining kitchen is a fantastic hub for everybody to get together and the boys enjoyed the man shed, playing pool at the top of the garden. Didn't get the chance to see as much of the Isle of Wight, but would certainly return to the property another time to explore further.

Downedge Review

We had a wonderful holiday with three generations celebrating a special birthday. The house was very comfortable offering plenty of space for all the family. The huge garden was lovely and as we were blessed with good weather we took full advantage of being outside. A few points to note: the property was not easy to find when we first arrived. It would be helpful to mention the cream wall at the entrance. The stair carpet was very worn. The coffee making machine was very slow and noisy. However we had a very enjoyable time and would recommend Downedge as a lovely holiday house.

Highly Recommended.

Downedge was all that we could have asked for for our multi generational family get together. A large, well equipped country house with the most beautifully tended wraparound gardens. We felt that we were away from it all yet it is within easy walking distance of the shop and pubs in Brading and a longer walk or a short drive takes you to the coast. Everything that we could possibly have needed was there, the house was spotless and the welcome hamper was lovely. So fab.

Family holiday

Beautiful house. Very good location. Very well equipped. We had a fantastic time we all loved the TV snug room and the kids loved the games room and the huge garden. There was even a little hidden wooded area if you explore further down the garden.

A wonderful house and garden

Downedge is an amazing house with everything you need for a relaxing holiday ( in fact I would happily live there! ) There were 7 adults and 2 dogs in our party and the dogs loved the gardens .There is plenty of room in the kitchen /breakfast room for everyone to be together for meals etc but lots of other rooms so you can have your own space. The kitchen is very well equipped and everything worked. The gardens are beautiful and we made good use of the firepit , croquet set and games room . Some reviews mention that the house needs some TLC but that is part of its charm and homeliness and only to be expected in an old house which has many visitors . Brading is well located with easy access to every part of the island and in walking distance of an excellent pub and restaurant , the Yarbridge Arms , and the Adgestone Vineyard where we passed a pleasant afternoon of wine tasting, a tour and music . A week was not long enough to see and do all we wanted so we will be back and will definitely book Downedge again .

We stayed here for a family Birthday celebration with Grandparents , parents and children. We fell in love with the place the minute we checked in. The house had so much character and plenty of room for 11 of us. The children loved all the outside space and made full use of all the facilities. The Games Room was a big hit and they also played football, basketball, croquet and badminton. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch. Lovely big table for all the meals we shared and lovely to be able to open out to the outside. We also enjoyed a BBQ as the weather was so kind to us on our stay. The house is in a good location and we all walked into Sandown and back one day. We also took advantage of the 'back' route to the Downs.The house was perfect for our needs and I can not fault it in any way. Would highly recommend to anyone considering visiting the IOW.

Perfect family break

Due to the Covid-19 situation we were looking for somewhere to have a family holiday of 6+adults and one infant after our french trip was cancelled twice! Having not been to the Isle of Wight for over 25 years fond memories spurred us to book here. So the hunt was on for a house that would give us the space for relaxation and comfort to enjoy a break after a long and difficult lockdown/ COVID-19 restricted year. The Downedge is a lovely house full of character and charm (although in need of some tlc) and with plenty of space for all to enjoy. Great family spaces to accommodate all, but with enough quiet places to have some alone time too. The pièce de résistance is the garden, what a beautiful space, we could enjoy family evenings around the fire pit, early morning squirrel and bird watching and generally take is this lovely aspect of the residence. Brading itself had little to offer, but is a great base to tour the island from. The one aspect we were disappointed with and I hope the owners/ holiday letting agents will take note of, is the cleanliness. (Happy to discuss in more detail) We were more than happy to work with the change in timings for entering and leaving the premises due to added time needed to clean the property due to COVID-19, but the house was not cleaned to the standard expected. In parts the house was very very dusty, apron and oven gloves dirty from previous occupants and leaving the windows open to air the building highlighted the need for their cleaning. It did not spoil our enjoyment but the standard was not up to requirement.

Thank you for your review and for bringing to our attention the substandard cleaning. We take your comments on cleanliness very seriously and our cleaners were already on notice after another review giving similar observations last year. As a result of your review, we have taken the difficult decision to terminate their contract. The new cleaners start this week and we will monitor their performance very closely.

Wonderful stay

This is a super property for a larger group to stay in. Very good facilities. Clean and comfortable. Fantastic garden for children to play. A delightful hamper of fruit and easter goodies awaited us. Milk, eggs, butter, bacon etc was also provided. So many thanks for those. Very much appreciated. A great location for all activities in the area. The Yarbridge pub nearby is a must. Excellent food at reasonable prices, but you may have to book as it is extremely popular.

Beautiful house in beautiful grounds! Perfect for a family get away!

We recently stayed at Downedge for a big family gathering - 6 adults and 6 children and the house was absolutely perfect for us. There is so much space everywhere - big hall with very helpful church pew so there's lots of seating while putting shoes on/taking shoes off. Off the hall is a living room with open fire, music room/library, dining room, play room, downstairs shower room and toilet, and at the back of the house, a great big kitchen diner stretching right across the width of the house. There's also a utility area with excellent washing machine and tumble dryer - perfect for young families and well used by us. The kitchen diner is absolutely delightful - modern, tasteful and very practical. We actually used this space for all our meals rather than the dining room as it was so convenient. There's a big range cooker and dishwasher which are both very useful for big families. The kitchen diner has bifold doors which open out on to the most amazing garden. The grounds are beautiful and extensive and our 6 children had so much fun exploring the wooded area (which they nicknamed Cousins Corner and where they held secret meetings!), playing on the trampoline, running in the grounds, seeing the horses in the field behind the house, and swinging in the hammock. The games room in the garden was also very popular for playing pool/snooker and table tennis. In addition to the fabulous space and planting in the garden, there are numerous wild rabbits which you can watch from the kitchen diner, and we spotted red squirrels, a woodpecker and lots of other small garden birds. Upstairs the house has a split level with 2 bedrooms - 1 double with en-suite (containing a shower) and a twin bedroom with a Jack & Jill bathroom (with a bath and separate shower). At the top of the stairs there are 4 more bedrooms and another Jack & Jill bathroom with shower - 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin and a room with bunk beds and a single bed. The upstairs rooms also had plenty of space and overlooked various aspects of the garden. Some of the mattresses were a little uncomfortable but once we padded them out with blankets they were ok and everyone was so tired every day that we all slept really well. Brading is a good base. There's a small village very close to the house but Ryde Tesco is very close by and they deliver groceries to Downedge if you shop online. From the house you can walk on to the downs but also walk across to the coast and Yaverland beach which is great for exploring. We all had a really super holiday and can't wait to go back!! I'd highly recommend Downedge to anyone wanting a great family space for a relaxing getaway.
