Wonderful Stay with Incredible views

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Sacristy. It is amazing. Very clean and comfortable. Perfect location on the property with easy access to and great view of Loch Ness. Highly recommend it.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we are delighted you had a wonderful holiday. This property is the only one with a private terrace overlooking Loch Ness which makes it very special, all rooms within the property look over Loch Ness. It is under new ownership and has been thoughtfully and meticulously decorated with a number of high-end additions such as the music system, intelligent lighting, new terrace and outdoor furniture. It's one of the top places to stay at The Highland Club.

Great place to stay

Great location, fantastic views. Loved walking down to the lake out the patio door. Used the pool, sauna, steam room which is a lovely space and only 1 other couple there. The apartment itself is really well equipped and comfortable, beds are so nice. Close to town and the abbey building is beautiful. Perfect stay.

Fantastic Property in an amazing place

We absolutely loved our stay at the Highland club. The Sacristy was a great apartment for our stay and really the pictures do not do it justice for how nice it is. The furnishings are all top quality and the patio is superb. The club itself is great with all the facilities you could ever want including the most amazing pool. And anytime you leave the apartment you are greeted but wonderful views over Loch Ness just to add that little extra. We will 100% be going back as our kids enjoyed it just as much as we did and did not want to leave!

Fabulous stay

This is a beautiful place to stay, very comfortable, all extras provided. We had a lovely view of Loch Ness, with some bunnies and very tame ducks resident on the lawn! The Highland Club itself is great; set in a beautiful monastery right on the banks of the loch, it is truly wonderful. Highly recommended!

The property, location and amenities exceeded our expectations! The grounds we so stunning, the building beautiful and we loved watching all the animals (bunnies, ducks, and many other birds). (The only comment we had is that it can be quite warm, and some fans would have been appreciated.)

Very comfortable place to explore Scotland

Very nice place to comfortably explore Scotland. Our son enjoyed the lake and the facilities in and around the Highland club. The appartement itself become home the first day. Directly from the appartement we had some wonderful hikes and visits to the village.

Phenomenal Experience

I cannot give enough five stars. Pictures do not do the property or the views around the property and loch justice. We had everything we needed for an all too brief stay to celebrate a milestone birthday. The views and peacefulness are indescribable. Management was always responsive and we would all gladly stay here again.

A comfortable and enjoyable stay

Our family of four had an excellent holiday in The Sacristy. Our boys (6 & 10) loved the pool (we loved the sauna), games room, giant chess and playing ping pong in a most beautiful room. They were able to search for Nessie from their bedroom and we enjoyed runs, walks and bike rides along the shore of Loch Ness. Fort Augustus is small but perfectly formed for tourists. We ate out at The Boathouse Restaurant (in The Highland Club grounds) and The Bothy in Fort Augustus and both were very enjoyable. The Sacristy itself is warm and tastefully decorated, with every need thought about and catered for. I’d highly recommend the whole experience.

Disabled accomodation

I do not recall there being notification that the property was not accessible to one in a wheelchair. Both bedrooms are upstairs. Toilets, especially the one downstairs, did not flush well. We had to fill the champagne bucket a couple of times before flushing was complete downstairs. I think two showers were advertised, but there is only one. Otherwise the property was very nice.

Gorgeous location

Clean and well equipped apartment. I would personally like to see bigger and more comfortable beds. We slept in two single beds put together which was a bit uncomfortable due to clear split in the middle. The other slight issue was that the apartment has an “old building smell” to it. I appreciate it is part of old monastery and it most likely is something you cannot avoid. Saying that you can leave your doors and windows open for fresh air and enjoy great surroundings at the same time. Great to have access to a spa however we did not get to use it even once as not only do you have to pre-book but the main issue is that it is only available 9-5. You can use it for additional charge in the evening but all spaces were gone anyways. Other than that this place is in a lovely location with a great view of Loch Ness. Grounds are well looked after and it is very peaceful. I would definitely like to stay there again!

You are correct, this building is historic and centuries of existence gives a certain ambience, although this is the first mention of this sort of smell! The Sacristy has new owners who have painstakingly decorated and refurbished the property last winter and added new soft furnishing and many new high quality items. We are pleased you have mentioned the swimming pool as we urge Highland Club Direct guests to book in advance of their stay. It is possible to book the pool up to 5 days in advance. Guests receive an automated email to book the facilities to enable them to organise their time efficiently. This is why it is important to receive your personal email address at the point of booking (contact details are requested). This is added to our system and these automated emails are able to be delivered allowing guests to access the booking system for all the facilities. To improve the enjoyment of the on-site facilities, guest numbers are limited to 10 for the pool, steam room and sauna area. The twin bedroom can be set up as a twin or super king bed arrangement, we have contacted the property manager to make sure they are ware that there is a mattress topper available when set up as a used Super King. Wonderful stay but spoiled by unusable shower

We recently stayed at Highland Club in The Sacristy. We had an amazing holiday and absolutely loved the location and facilities on offer at The Highland Club. The Sacristy is a gorgeous apartment and has been decorated beautifully but it was let down by one thing - the shower! We weren’t able to use it for the whole week we stayed there which was a huge disappointment as it is a beautiful bathroom. The water was either freezing cold or boiling hot - no in between. This was never able to be fixed despite numerous visits from maintenance and boiler engineers. We spent a lot of time trying to get this fixed. For the money that was paid for a week in this apartment this was unacceptable and for this reason I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless you can be assured this problem has been fixed. Particularly because the shower was very very hot and would be dangerous for children and the elderly. We loved the patio looking onto the loch - it was bliss and the beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean. If the shower issues are fixed then this apartment will be perfect - just wish it had been able to be fixed while we stayed there so we could have used it.

Tolle Unterkunft

Eine wunderschöne Wohnung an/in einer alten Abbey mit einem wunderschönen Gelände direkt an Loch Ness gelegen. In der Wohnung hat es uns an nichts gefehlt. Bei Ankunft war bereits eine Flasche Prosecco für uns kalt gestellt. Handtücher und Bademäntel waren ausreichend vorhanden. Die Einrichtungen wie Pool oder Billard haben wir nicht genutzt, sah aber sehr schön aus. Allein in einer alten Abbey zu übernachten ist schon besonders.

Our honeymoon by the Loch

Our stay at Sacristy was very enjoyable. The accommodation was luxurious, the bed was comfy and kitchen well equipped. We were staying for our honey moon, for relaxation, and we certainly achieved this. It was very peaceful and quiet. There is a walk when you turn left out of the drive which takes you along the loch and through some fields which had lambs running around as we visited in spring time. If you are looking for a good restaurant the only ones we found which didn't serve microwavable food was Caledonian canal cafe and Beaufort Hotel which does a great pizza. Our host was great and she was quick to reply to any questions I had. I would highly recommend the Sacristy for children as well. I saw baby monitors in the cupboard, children's cutlery, games to play etc.which are all nice added extras. Outside our window we often saw pheasants, rabbits and ducks. The pool is small but warm,clean and modern. The sauna and steam take a few mins to warm up but are worth a visit. The gym once found, easiest entrance is from outside, (next to cottages) is adequate. The snooker room has giant connect four and a chess board. Lots of books and some puzzles as well as a pool and snooker table. We would happily return to stay here but maybe be prepared to cook in house unless out and about for the day.

Amazing location, great apartment!!

Fantastic Christmas Stay

We specifically chose the apartment for the Loch/terrace access and weren’t disappointed. It was very warm and cosy We loved the proximity to the village. Excellent location

Smashing location with lovely views of the garden, complete with wild rabbits and the Loch. Nice garden furniture to enjoy the views with a glass of something if you get good weather. Had to chase up booking confirmation as hadn't heard anything following a provisional booking email from The Highland Club some 6 days earlier. Also only able to leave phone messages to advise of our arrival time on day of check-in and didn't get any call back. The Abbey is a stunning building and use of the lounge and pool/sauna is great, although unfortunately pool/sauna closes at 6pm so there isn't much time to use the facility if you are out exploring through the day. Only gripe with the Sacristy is the bathrooms - both are dark with no natural light so forget trying to put on makeup etc. The downstairs bathroom has a sink the size of a postage stamp so if there are more than a couple staying at the property, this is totally impractical to use if you haven't got use of the ensuite facility. We would definitely stay again and recommend to friends etc. Fort Augustus is a lovely base with many places to eat and drink (our favourite by far for was the Locke Inn)

Fantastic location, very well appointed, but very dark interior with little natural light

Fantastic location, very well appointed, but very dark interior with little natural light. Dark crimson walls in lounge, existing windows bricked up, dark brown bedroom walls and ceilings just made it a little claustrophobic for me. Otherwise very good.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are delighted you enjoyed your holiday and made the most of this fantastic location with all the nearby local amenities and places to visit in this region. However I feel it is unfair to say that you did not appreciate the lack of natural light and dark scheme within the apartment as we provide an abundance of photos which show all the colour schemes within each of the rooms. All guests are privy to this prior to booking as this should be part of their decision process when choosing a property. I agree that the colours are subdued and cosy but this should not have been a surprise as it is not in our interest to mislead. Occasionally properties are chosen for the reason they are perhaps a little different from their own property at home. You know what they say a change is sometimes as go as a rest! Schöne Wohnung in märchenhafter Anlage

Die gepflegte und geschmackvoll eingerichtete Wohnung liegt in einer ehemaligen Klosteranlage in einer landschaftlich sehr reizvollen Umgebung. Die Lage direkt am Loch Ness ist sehr ruhig, Wer´s etwas belebter mag, für den liegt Fort Augustus , ein kleiner aber noch nicht zu überlaufener Touristenort (wenn man jahrelang in Bertchtesgaden gelebt hat...) gleich vor der Haustür und Inverness ist nur eine gute Autostunde entfernt... Alles in allem ein Geheimtip, den man gar nicht so gern weitergibt, weil er ja dann keiner mehr ist... Wir jedenfalls haben unseren Urlaub sehr genossen und würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

Nice place to be

We were warmly welcomed by a very friendly team in a beautiful place. The accommodation very close to the loch is very comfortable. We will come again to the Highland Club for our next stay

The Sacristy is a special and unique property with a "birds eye" view over Loch Ness. It is one of the few properties at The Highland Club with both Loch views and a private terrace. Built in 1876, The Benedictine Abbey that's now home to The Highland Club is one of the oldest buildings in Fort Augustus and one of the most stunning buildings around Loch Ness.
