Had a wonderful time with my friends exploring the loch and surrounding area. Was super quiet and a lovely space to hang out, with a good DVD collection to watch by the fireplace. Think we will certainly be back again!

A very comfortable holiday house

We had a lovely week in this very comfortable holiday home. Spacious, cosy , comfy beds. Generous sized dining room , great kitchen ( tho knives could be sharpened please!) Bathrooms were good & plenty of hot water.

Shelburne Lodge is a beautiful house in a stunning location. It was absolutely perfect for our family get together and, in spite of the rain on several days, there was lots to do in the area and the grandkids and the family had a great time visiting Kilmartin Museum, Lochgilphead swimming pool, a boat trip from Oban to look at the seals, crabbing at Crinan and long walks in the surrounding countryside.The facilities in the house were all we needed and the dining room and sitting room comfortably fit all 10 of us staying there, as well as some family who live nearby who visited a couple of times. We had a great time a would definitely stay there again.

Perfect house for large family or friends. Great location on the Crain canal.

A great house with plenty of room for 7 people and three dogs. Well equipped kitchen and great dinning area. The beds are really comfy all bedrooms are spacious. Plenty of room out side with nice sitting area. Located on the Crain canal which is very picturesque. Would recommend shelboure lodge..

Annual Family Holiday

We had a very enjoyable stay at Shelburne Lodge on the Crinan Canal. It was interesting to watch the yachts go by and the locks being opened and shut by the lock keepers. We explored the surrounding area including Inveraray Jail, a distillery, a couple of Islands, walks in the forest where we saw the back end of a beaver and lots of swimming. The lodge was well equipped and provided a comfortable stay.

Reunion!

We were two families, French and Scottish, we all had a great time! The location is beautiful, the house was full of unique qualities… the servants bells caused a lot of amusement. Full of character and history. Excellent place for larger groups. Excellent communication regarding keys etc.Had a wonderful lunch at Tayvallin..about 20 minutes away… delicious seafood! No complaints about the house, location or our hosts!! Recommend this lovely house and place!

Ideal

The house was ideal for our family holiday and the location was great, we loved watching the boats go through the locks. Although the weather was poor we made the most of our time while staying in Argyll. Our only comment would be the garden was not secure for the dogs.

Beautiful house

Beautiful, spacious, grand house, but warm, welcoming and well equipped for nine of us, with two beds to spare!! Art Nouveau features - I would love to find out more about its history. It also has a serving hatch and room service bells, if you can manage to fit your butler in the boot of your car!! Laundrey and kitchen facilities.excellent.

Going back in time in a beautiful setting.

Had a wonderful four days in this lovely old home. It felt like we went back in time. We enjoyed watching the sailboats go thru the locks in the canal. We only wish that we could read about the history of the house. We explored the area taking day trips… to Oban, Campbeltown, Southend, Tarbert etc.We give a thumbs up for having a full size washer and dryer. All the other places we stayed at had small washer/dryer combos or just a small washer and no dryer… that makes it hard when traveling for weeks.We highly recommend considering staying at the Shelburne Lodge!

Lovely location

The location was perfect for a relaxing break. The house had everything we needed and the beds were comfortable and clean. However, the overall cleanliness of the house was not good. The paintwork and skirting boards had not been cleaned and dust was present under furniture and in all corners. The grass had not been cut and weeds were growing around the front entrance and in the paved areas. The furniture and decoration were tired and in need of updating.

Lovely but needs TLC

We were disappointed that there was no welcome pack, not even a teabag. The location is wonderful, but for the money paid, cleanliness wasn’t great. The dishwasher hadn’t been completely emptied, cobwebs visible, sofa corners - not pleasant & log basket wasn’t full for our first cold night indoors. The downstairs shower leaked water all over the floor under the glass side panel. But the house is lovely - just a bit more TLC.

Great weekend in Knapdale

We were a family party of ten, arriving from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Australia and Canada to reconnect with each and our family origins in Knapdale. We had a wonderful time. The house was capacious, well fitted-out and welcoming, as were the helpful staff. The location beside the Crinan Canal was interesting and good for early morning walks. More generally we had relatively easy access trips to Loch Awe/Kilmartin, Tarbert, and Castle Sween and Tayvallich and the scenic beauty of the area is only matched by its long history. The area generally needs to up its game in the quality and variety of light meals provided, though places like the Tayvallich Inn were just great to visit. The local hotel at Cairnbaan was a disaster for eating out. The food was ok, expensive, the service dreadful and dogs of other drinkers were allowed to wander around and under your table and one pissed on the sofa next to where we were dining. Our overseas guests, who live in rural areas, were appalled by the neglect of public health issues in eating. The house was wonderful and pretty good value for money. We would happily go back .

Amazing characterful house in an absolutely awesome location

The house is packed full of character and history. It is very well kitted out and exceptionally spacious. We were a party of 9 (adults and kids) and it worked perfectly for us. There's a nice pub 5 mins walk away and the local area is fantastic. We didn't spot any Beavers at the local centre (google argyllbeavercentre) but the lochs themselves are beautiful and looking for evidence of where the beavers had been (which was plentiful!) was fascinating. Definitely pop up to the little info centre during the day to get some tips/maps (the Beavers tend to come out at dusk and dawn). We did a day trip to Arran which was stunning and we were able to picnic with tens of seals literally feet away from us (which was very surreal). The quieter beaches are off to the right when you get off the ferry at Lochranza, this is where the seal were. The road that crosses from Machrie to Brodick has some spectacular scenery. Brodick was not our cup of tea so we had an icecream at Lamlash. We also did the 2hr boat trip with Seafari (google seafari easdale). They were really friendly and informative and we saw Sea Eagles, Golden Eagles, Stag, Seals and all kids of other creatures. We can also recommend Carnasserie castle, which is easy to get to and free to explore. The walk to Crinan along the canal was super too and the little tea rooms at the end was great for a cup of tea, sandwich and cake! We didn't want to come home!

Fabulous weekend

I found Shelburne Lodge by accident when contemplating what to do for my 70th birthday. It is in an area we love and the right size for three generations of family plus dogs. We had the best time, the house was perfect, weather was kind to us, and it was great for the children to see boats going through the canal. Proximity to the Cairnbaan Hotel enabled and extra couple to join us as well. Highly recommended.
