Beachfront Paradise Retreat in your own Private Bay and Floating Jetty

Onapua Bay is a totally secluded, private bay in Tory Channel, Marlborough Sounds.
This is a much loved and enjoyed Family Holiday Home, this home has a beautiful view from the Kitchen/Lounge, with a perfect flat grassed area to relax and lounge out the front when the weather is calm and clear.
Out the back is a decking area + covered outdoor Living/BBQ area out the back that provides a sheltered outdoor area .

You can sit out the front & watch the Kids play and fish on the recently refurbished Warf & Floating Jetty.

The house offers a a functional Kitchen with New Gas Hobs/Oven a Family sized Fridge/Freezer & plenty of quality cooking equipment. But being an Off The Grid property there is no microwave. All power is from Solar Panels & Battery system.
Fresh drinking water is via a spring fed creek witch is run thru filters and UV sterilized.

The Main house can easily sleep 4+ adults, and the sleepout will sleep 4 people.

There is no light pollution so you can enjoy the magnificent night sky above you and on some nights the magical star reflection in the sea too.

Water Taxis are available to take you to and from the bay (30 minutes) and bring in regular supplies of fresh food. The supermarket and other shops in Picton will package and deliver your food to the water taxis. There is no road access.

Special conditions:

This property will ideally suit a family's or couples who want to truly get away from it all and immerse themselves in nature and have a very special time together. It does not suit people who need easy access to shops and cafe's.
There is Starlink Satellite internet installed at the house, with easy to connect Guest wifi.
Cellphone & mobile data service is very Limited, it works out in the bay where there is a better strength signal. (Use Wi-Fi calling function on your phone if it supports that).

NOTE FROM HOMEAWAY: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels)

Slice of Paradise

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely bach. The views were stunning, the peace was amazing and the water was beautiful. It had everything we needed to have a relaxing holiday. It was truely a slice of paradise.

Fishing getaway

Great spot, another good getaway for 5 of us. Good fishing in the Sounds, regular stingrays cruising around the bay and some very friendly Weka's around the Bach. Once again was very sad to leave.

We had a great weekend away with family and friends. Such a great batch, generous sized bedrooms with comfortable beds. We made good use of the bbq and outdoor dinning. Looking forward to our next trip.

Great Location

Our family really enjoyed staying in this off the grid location. Bach is very well equipped with everything you need. We enjoyed fishing, walks up the back of the property, using the kayaks, and exploring the bay. Great outdoor filleting area, overall, very practical Bach. Thanks

Great location.

Loved our stay at this amazing Bach. Very well set up will fully equipped kitchen. Wouldn’t know it was of grid. View was beautiful and fishing great! Outdoors was very well thought out and a great space to spend time. Bonus with water filtering system. We will re book.

Incredible location

Blue cod off jetty, shark and stingray cruising by. Amazing forest walks. Bathroom was not so clean and bbq so dirty it caught fire but we cleaned it and carried on. It was well worth it!!!

Boating, Fishing & Watersports Paradice

Great location with fantastic amenities - off grid, yes, but would never have known! Simple practical Bach(s) with lovely comfy beds. Outdoor filleting area great! Jetty brilliant - kids spent hours fishing off this and watching other marine life. A lot of thought has gone into this property to make simple work exceptionally well! A really special holiday had by all.

Waitangi 2024

Nine of us stayed over the long Waitangi weekend 2024. Three generations from 73 to 11. Bach was fantastic and had everything and more that we needed for our stay. Outdoor area was amazing for the late afternoon sun to enjoy a cold beverage. Kids spent hours jumping off the jetty and paddling on the kayaks in the bay. A large stingray spent most of our stay near the jetty and boat ramp which was a great experience. Would definitely stay again!

Stunning location

We had a wonderful time despite a week of Rain! We enjoyed walks in the Forrest, fishing off the Jetty & being very cosy in the cabin with the gas heater. We didn’t use the sleepout. Great Fridge/BBQ / outdoor fire area - all so well set up - we needed into use the generator a lot as there was no sunshine - the solar would be fine on sunny days. Our boat sat well on the mooring & was mostly protected from the ferry wake. An incredible location & a very well thought out home
 we can’t wait to book again!

Very disappointing

The stay didn't start well with an outside area that was unusable. Inside the kitchen was so dirty, really disappointing. Just to let anyone know who needs to take the water taxi that it is $270 each way. The outdoor environment is outstanding, birds, fish, stingrays. Using the kayaks was fantastic. Overall what could have been an amazing experience was spoilt by seeing the pile of chairs on top of the BBQ before we even got inside.

This place is awesome, I highly recommend it.

Beautiful setting, has a nice wee walk through native bush, the Bach it’s self was cool, using its smallness to the fullest, off the grid, absolutely well done, the outdoor fire only added to the Ambient , the floating wharf perfect, I highly recommend this Bach, well done naked baker.

This is a fabulous bach in a great location. Really well appointed with everything that you need. Even better than depicted in the advertisement. Do check out the cost of the water taxi to get there though.
