We rented this house for the Christmas week. Upon arrival all seemed well, but after a bit of time, we found that a lot was lacking. There was an overall lack of preparedness for our arrival. After one day, we ran out of propane. We only used the fireplace to discover this first issue. We contacted Surf or Sound, the rental management company, and they had someone come out the next day to replenish the propane. The gentleman who filled our 100 pound tank told us that this happens every week and they didn’t understand why there was such a small tank for a house that ran the fireplace, stove and oven on propane. He offered to come back in a few days to top off the tank since we would be there all week. We used the bbq for the first few nights, so it wasn’t until the 21st of December that we discovered that our oven didn’t work. We left a message and Surf or Sound had a repair man out the next day. The repair man found that the oven was inoperable, due to the fact that it was lighting itself, without being turned on. But he told us we could still use the stove so long as we lit it with a match. Surf or Sound told us that the could not get us a new oven due to the fact that we were ‘on an island’ and that it was a holiday week. I had a hard time with this for two reasons. One, it’s just a small bridge that separates this from the ‘mainland’ and two, we passed a Lowe’s right before crossing that bridge. Add to that, they should have repair parts and/or appliances for a company that supposedly represents hundreds of properties. They did offer to move us, but by that time we were three days into a 7 day stay, and we had carried up all of the necessary food, clothes, games, presents etc needed for a Christmas week stay. We chose not to move. Surf or Sound did bring us a crock pot, table top oven toaster and a hot plate. This did not work out well for the prime rib roast that we brought for Christmas dinner. Short list of issues: no outlet power in bathroom,plugged shower drain,drawers falling out,oven,stove,washer leaking,main breaker tripping,etc. Surf or Sound only offered $100 refund for these, and more, issues. That is unacceptable for a week of no oven or stove for a family of 6. We have called numerous times since, and still can’t get in touch with the office manager nor have we received ANY compensation at this time. I’d advise against renting ANY property that is managed by Surf or Sound.
