Great location

Very close to elevator that lets out right by pool. Super comfortable bed also. Place was clean, complimentary water bottle and package of ground coffee were nice. Small view of the water but good enough. LOVED the walking beach path for my daily walks. All in all great vacation!

Great location and amenities

Great place for the family. Grounds are nice and the underground parking is super convenient. Maui resort rentals was very responsive.

Best family spot in Maui

This property has everything you need for a great family vacation. The pools are great for kids, beach access with great snorkeling right here, walking distance to restaurants and shopping. No timeshare haggling. Maui resort rentals staff were very responsive to our needs. When we come to Maui, this is where we will stay.

Very happy with our stay

We really loved how close to the beach we were. We liked the view, even if it was partially blocked. All amenities were as published. Easy to access all info. We would book again if planning on returning to that area. (Only negative was the washer was moldy. )

Plan ahead if you have napping babies

While communication was great and the company was very responsive, don’t plan on getting late checkout. I started the late checkout conversation a long time ago and was told I needed to wait until three days prior to traveling. I was then told I needed to wait two days prior to departure. Once I finally got an answer, it was a no. There is nothing you can do if your young child needs a nap due to a late departure. Thankfully, we had family traveling with us and their unit was available all day. Checkin process was easy, Unit was clean and it had the necessary kitchen utensils and dishes needed to keep your stay comfortable.

Great location, tired property with poorly maintained grounds

We have stayed at Honua Kai many times and were very disappointed this visit. Our one bedroom unit was tired and the stuffing was coming out of the cushions on the chairs. The property seems to have become run down and was not well maintained. Garbage in the elevator foyers and the grounds were not especially clean.

Great condo in a fun resort

Overall we really enjoyed the condo -- it was clean, large, well laid out, and had everything we needed. Worth noting: we enjoyed the beach chairs and umbrella provided as well as the Nanawall which opens the entire living room up to the open air. Maui Resport Rentals had great communications all along. Overall everything was great. Only suggestion to the resort is to add some hand sanitizer dispensers

Overall good stay

We had a start to the vacation that was less than ideal but Maui rentals was prompt in taking care of things and they were very accommodating. The property is hard to beat in the area, especially if you are travelling with kids and extended family members. It would take a lot to get us to stay at another resort, the Honua Kai has great pools for all ages and full kitchens with in suite laundry is amazing.

People and their smoke

Fell just short of an amazing stay, only because of neighbors around me, unable to follow the smoking ordinances. I was forced to close all the windows and doors whenever they decided to light-up. Security did their best I'm sure, but oh well...

Kaanapali / Well appointed & quiet resort

We very much enjoyed our stay at Honua Kai in Kaanapali. The property is clean, well maintained and quiet. Staff was friendly and efficient, and not “overbearing” (eg, all of our needs were met, but we were not inundated around every corner with ALOHA! and inquiries into how our stay could be improved. Would definitely seek to rebook at this property again.

Not what was advertised

Long story short, the room was not ready for guests. There was a strong odor of mold in the room and it took several cleanings for the issue to clear up. The guy who came to the room to do the work was very friendly, but I can't say the same about the managers I spoke with on the phone. They didn't seem too concerned that the first two days of our week-long trip were being ruined by a room that smelled so bad we couldn't stand to be in there. After way too much back and forth (that spanned two days) we received some money back and a gift card, but I'd much rather have had a room that was as advertised. I was told that they'd just gotten the room on their listing and hadn't had time to properly deep clean it. If that's the case, don't rent it out! Toss in missing grill equipment and missing beach equipment (took two attempts for them to deliver that stuff), and it simply wasn't what was advertised or what we paid for. The view is exactly what they show, and I assume the room doesn't stink anymore, so feel free to roll the dice on what "should" be a good room. They didn extend us a day when we had an airport mishap, so that's a point in their favor. I really have no desire to revisit this whole experience, but VRBO tells me they just reviewed me as a customer, and that to see what they wrote, I need to write a review. So, here we are. I hope your stay is better than ours!

Fourth time staying on this property and it was great. The pool area seemed a little beaten up however and less “luxe” than last time. The rooms are the best, so much space and ability to settle in.
