VRBO made me edit out the excess fees and total booking price. Our total booking price was in the 5 digits and the excess fees were in the 4 digits…..
The house was cool and all, but our experience booking and customer service was miserable. Long story short, beware of a major price change after you book (+$x,xxx in our case, bringing our 3-night stay to over $xx,xxx) and charging copious amounts in cleaning fees, yet expecting you to do all the cleaning. For those wondering the details:
1st: we booked through VRBO, confirmed the dates we wanted, and paid the booking deposit. A couple days later we were sent a request for payment which was $x,xxx more than what it was when we initially booked through the VRBO app. We reached out asking why the discrepancy and they claimed “the 2022 rates had not yet been posted”, however MANY of the other dates we wanted were already taken - so clearly others had already booked for 2022, and they must have been doing the same bait and switch to them too. Unwilling to honor the rate we confirmed at booking, we decided it was probably still worth it considering the amenities. We were wrong.
2nd: Right before check-in, we were sent a list of things we were expected to clean, otherwise we would “incur extra charges”. The two most outrageous: “you must wash, dry, and fold the beach towels”. We paid their advertised extra $xxx “pool fee” that was in the listing, so why are we responsible for doing the laundry?? Second was that “you must not leave any dirty dishes” - which I sort of get, but when you add it up to $xxx in added convenience/cleaning fees, they are really trying to nickel and dime you on everything. Will definitely not rent from Cascade Mountain Vacation Rentals again (and strongly advise others not to), unless you don’t mind paying THEM to do the cleanup yourself.
