We arranged a trip to Roatan to celebrate a special birthday and enjoy a dolphin experience at St. Anthony's key. This location is absolutely perfect as it's right across from the dolphin lagoon - closer than the pictures show. The dock is great as it is shaded and you can get in the water off the dock and snorkel. We truly appreciated the air conditioning in the bedrooms as it was quite hot in August. If you are looking for a casual, laid back relaxing place to be or if you are adventurous and looking for really neat off the beat things to do, this is the place. And, John the property manager along with Christy, are the perfect people to help you with what you are looking for. They were very accommodating, very helpful...and a lot of fun. They introduced us to Sundowners beach bar in the West end which became a favourite right away. It's about a 5 to 10 minute cab ride which costs about $1.50 (or about 30 limps) per person. At Sundowners a few of us swam out to a boat with a huge rope swing and took a turn. Very neat!
A few other favourites were the Sunken Fish and Guava Grove. The Sunken Fish is a 5 minute walk on the beach. Great food, drinks and view. Guava grove is about a 15 or 20 minute walk but so worth it. The food is fresh and so good and they make a "loaded Ceasar" which is amazing. The owners are very nice and so friendly. We did a tour one day, recommended by John, that was awesome. Shannon our driver was very knowledgeable about the island, very professional and pleasant. We went to see Sloths and monkeys, then on a mangrove tour in a cool local boat which was a highlight and then to a restaurant on the water before returning back to our beach house.
Nothing fancy, very simple, local, nothing touristy, fun, relaxing, laid back, go with the flo, no expectations,....that's what we are like and that's what it was like for us. We were grateful for the opportunity and grateful for John and Christy helping to make our trip so much fun and easygoing. They also helped to arrange a birthday dinner at the beach house with the chef from 'Lilypond" restaurant and then they made a big bonfire on the beach. Truly a trip to remember. Thank you to all who work so hard in keeping the grounds maintained, and for your kindness. Thank you John and Christy for helping to make our trip so memorable and fun.
Note: Unfortunately the sand fleas were terrible and it did have an effect on us so just be very prepared with spray etc.
