Ackwood Lodge - The Lodge, LARGE, Private Lakeshore Estate. Perfect for Family Reunions

Fourteen bedrooms and five bathrooms across 8,000 square feet, on nine acres with 300 feet of private Lac Courte Oreilles shoreline. Your whole group stays under one roof.

SLEEPING

Five king beds, eight queens, one double, five twins, and a crib. Twenty-eight people. Two master bedrooms have en suite baths and their own screen porches, one with two twin beds. Seven more bedrooms run off a single hallway in the west wing.

THE KITCHEN

Commercial, because cooking for 28 is a different job than cooking for six. A six burner Imperial range with two ovens and a flattop grill, a commercial refrigerator, and two dishwashers. The dining table seats 20 at one table. Nobody eats at a kids table.

GATHERING

The main hall runs along the lake with windows the length of it, a wood fireplace, and a sitting area with a TV. There is a second wood fireplace. The game room has a pool table, ping pong, foosball, bumper pool, and a card table.

SUMMER

A private dock with stairs into the water and a sandy bottom for swimming. Two full length courts for basketball and pickleball, with poles for a volleyball net. Bring your net.

FALL

Color peaks in Sawyer County in early to mid October. Wisconsin gun deer season opens the Saturday before Thanksgiving and runs nine days. The Chequamegon mountain bike race is in September.

WINTER

Both fireplaces burn wood. Snowmobile trails are close enough to ride to without trailering. The American Birkebeiner runs Cable to Hayward in late February.

Hayward is under eight miles. Duluth is under two hours.

Our stay at the lodge was absolutely incredible and our host Adam was awesome with communication! We had 12 couples and there was so much space for everyone and kitchen was excellent for prepping food for 24 people. More than half of our group was ready to book it for next year before the end of our second day…… It is an absolute gem of place to stay for a large group. I would recommend this to anybody that has a large group. We will be back!

Great place to stay with our large group of 20. Plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The kitchen is awesome for feeding a crowd. The view is lovely. Would definitely stay again.

They had 2 dishwashers but didn’t supply soap, they also don’t supply bath towels! We couldn’t get in when we got there, lock didn’t work. It’s an old place with loose locks, dirty corners and spider webs. The place used to be a YMCA camp, it was huge but they don’t let you know where to find things. I would recommend they should supply the place better, they give you 3 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom and you buy more if needed. For what you pay the view is worth it but the company running it needs to be more customer friendly. When you pay that much you shouldn’t have to worry about buying everyday items. Also, be very careful driving in and out, you could really damage your car if you go too fast.

Thanks for the detailed feedback, and I'm sorry the first hour of your stay was a scramble. The lodge sleeps 34, so there is a lot of building to learn, and we did not do a good enough job showing you where things are kept. The check-in guide now points to the dish soap. Bath towels are the one item we ask guests to bring, and that is in the listing and the check-in instructions. Our housekeepers went back through the corners and window frames after your stay. On the lock, we had you inside the minute you reached out, and that is how it works here: we answer, day or night. The drive in is a camp road, easy in any car at a slow speed. Most families come here for the lake and the room to spread out, and we want everything else to stay out of the way. Reach out to us directly if you head back to Hayward.

Great spot for a large group

This was a great spot for our large group. Everyone had their own bedroom, plenty of space for cooking and eating group meals, and some room to roam on the property.

Loved the space, so much room to spread out. The large dining hall is perfect for our group of 20. The lake is very clear and clean. Spacious kitchen with ample refrigerator and freezer space for a large group.

What a fantastic place! There were 12 adults and everyone had great rooms, plenty of bathrooms, and more than enough space so that we weren’t on top of each other. The weather wasn’t the best but the house had so much to offer that we were never bored. The kitchen and dining area were incredible! Definitely recommend this place to anyone with a large crowd

Great Option For Large Parties

We stayed at Ackwood Lodge for a long weekend celebrating my sister’s bachelorette. The accommodations were perfect for a larger party. Adam was great with communication and responded quickly. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!

Family Weekend

Our time at the lodge was wonderful! We have 3 generations going every year. This place was perfect for us! Are planning on making it a yearly event at the lodge. Thank you Adam for being such a wonderful host.

Szymanski's Summer Vacation

We booked this property based on pictures only. The pictures don't show how beautiful it really is. We have been coming up to Hayward for the last five years and this has been the best property. You will never run out of room and fishing right in front of the property was awesome.

Wedding party

Great place to plan to have your wedding party stay together. Guys can get ready on one side of the house and ladies on the opposite end of the house. We held the rehearsal dinner there. Plenty of cooking, food storage, and refrigerator space. Beautiful view overlooking the lake. Cozy and comfortable.

Amazing!

So many aspects of Ackwood Lodge were amazing and wonderful, but for a group of 18 family members from 5 to 76 years old, the feature was the most surprising was the amazingly appointed kitchen….there wasn’t a tool or a device or an appliance that was missing! So rare!

Fun at Ackwood Lodge

Our family (23 of us) ranging in age from grandparents to toddlers enjoyed this property immensely. The big dining room was great for evening meals and the kitchen was big enough to hold all our food and cook a big meal. The little kids enjoyed catching sunfish from the dock. The dock accommodated our boats just fine. We found enough to do in Hayward for the kids and took day trips to Duluth and Apostle Islands. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio at night enjoying the view of the lake. Very relaxing and quiet. We will be back in the future.

Wow! What an incredible stay!

My wife and I rented Ackwood to host our immediate families for a weekend, capped off with a marriage ceremony. The lodge was beautiful, spacious, comfortable, and exactly what we expected and hoped it would be. The property surrounding the home was well manicured and perfect for outdoor activities - we played pickleball and basketball, and also went fishing (but didn't catch anything!), as well as just enjoyed sitting on the patio, listening to the lake and the birds. Adam was incredibly supportive with all of our requests and responded with lightning speed to our questions. My wife and I couldn't have had a more perfect, intimate wedding ceremony and so much of that is because of Ackwood. We highly, highly recommend it.

From the moment we arrived at this beautiful lakeshore estate, we knew we had found a truly special place. The property is spacious, impeccably maintained, and offers stunning views that instantly make you feel at peace. Every room in the home reflects thoughtful care and attention to detail, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that made it feel like home.The amenities were wonderful! Everything we could possibly need was right at our fingertips. We loved the beverage center, patio and grill area, outdoor courts, and certainly the lake and fire pit area! The grounds were beautifully kept, perfect for enjoying quiet mornings or relaxing evenings by the lake. When we needed assistance with a laundry hook-up and a light switch, Mary and Dan responded immediately; and with such genuine kindness, concern, and professionalism. Ackwood Lodge is amazing! The location right on the water is beautiful and the entire back of the house is a wall of windows with incredible views. The kitchen is huge and stocked with everything you need. It was a dream to cook there. The dock was perfect for swimming, fishing and docking our boat. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms had plenty of room. The house was clean, the property is well maintained and it makes for the perfect Northwoods getaway for large groups!

Great location, nice views and very clean and spacious

The lodge is perfect for larger groups, plenty of space to enjoy inside and out. Easy communication with the host to answer any questions. Highly recommend the lodge.

A perfect winter getaway

It was a perfect property for our big family of 27. It was really cold but didn't stop the outdoor activities and a quick drive to town and lots of indoor games. The owner was super nice and easy and quick to communicate with! We had a blast!

Work Leadership Retreat

We had 20 professionals stay for 4 days and 3 nights. We did 24 hours of training, we cooked all of our meals with 4 different cooking teams, we snow shoed on the lake both at night and during the day. All of the rooms were really nice and the entire location was well taken care of We really enjoyed our stay!

Great place

Amazing property! Plenty of space for a large group. View is fantastic, lots of outdoor space for yard games/basketball/ect. Kitchen is perfect for making large meals. We really enjoyed this place and were very happy with it. Adam was extremely accommodating with our requests. Highly recommend.
