Lovely stay in Galveston!
My partner and I had a wonderful time staying at the Knotty Mermaid in Galveston this past weekend. This location is less than ten minutes away from all our planned outings, including just a short walk away from a gorgeous historic cemetery. The house itself was comfortable for two people, with nautical-themed furniture and kitschy mermaid decorations. The shower and its brick floor was absolutely stunning. We stayed during a more mild late summer weekend, but the powerful A/C kept us cool and dry, which is a feat in muggy Galveston. We considered dropping our review to 4 stars due to the backyard lights being nonfunctional, but we were really pleased with our stay overall, including with the guest contact's responsiveness and the calm and friendly nature of the neighborhood. The alley parking lot was very cool and assuaged any fears of break-ins. One previous review noted that there was a mosquito problem, but we suspected and confirmed that if you're a Houston-Galveston local, the mosquito situation is tolerable. Overall, our stay at the Knotty Mermaid was a fabulous choice for a long birthday weekend celebration. If you're an independent and respectful traveler, this stay will be perfect for you.
