We loved this resort! The grounds beautiful and well taken care of. The condo was perfect! Very well supplied and wonderful room. The host was so nice and easy to work with. Would not change a thing!!!!

The stay and resort was wonderful only complaint was some of the staff were pretty rude…the knifes in the room were very dull and at least 1 little thing of coffee would’ve been nice for our first morning all of our friends had enough in their rooms to make a couple cups..other than that great

We had a wonderful time in Maui as always. The property had construction going on which wasn’t great to look at, and the units we stayed in could use some updating, but overall, Honua Kai remains a nice resort. The views are spectacular.

Lovely resort

Honua Kai resort is lovely. Multiple pools for all ages. Duke's restaurant very good. Our accomodations were adequate, not luxurious. Staff is accomodating. Property manager has the reputation of being "strict" according to valet service, so don't try to check in before 11!

just okay

wish you could see the ocean from our lanai. it was hardly visible . overall it was a nice stay, we would have liked to have had comforters for the beds, instead of just 2 layers of flat sheets. I couldn’t make sense of that.

As advertised this condo has a partial ocean view from the lanai. Being on the eight floor it has a pretty nice view. I have watched whales on multiple occasions from this lanai. Being Maui most condos do not provide comforters, bur there is always a blanket between the sheets and an extra blanket in the condo if needed. There is a thermostat in the condo which controls the temperature and it is easy to adjust to ones comfort level.

Smelled urine and under the sheets, the mattress pad has big urine stain.

Unit is very dirty: urine on mattress pad, really dirty sofa, tile grout in the bathroom is black with filth, shower door is caked with salt. This unit needs a thorough scrub before being rented again.

I was very surprised to see this review. This guest was there for three weeks and never let me know about any of this. The condo is cleaned regularly and professionally. It was cleaned before his arrival as well as during his stay. If there was a problem he should have let us know so that it could be taken care of. He did not mention to me or to the cleaners any of the complaints that are in his review. We request that guests report any deficiencies upon arrival. This guest did not report anything on his arrival. We have addressed all of these complaints with the cleaners.

Maui stay in September 2024

The host is completely rude. We had no toilet paper upon arrival, she argued we did. After she realized we didn’t, she sent up some 99 cent store quality toilet paper so we just went and purchased our own as well as paper towels since the same cheap paper towels were the kitchen option. . The place stunk like roach spray. We found 2 dead roaches and have pics of them. The sheets are thin and uncomfortable, doesn’t even have a comforter on main bed. Worst host in 12 trips to Maui.

This guest reached out and told us there was not extra toilet paper and only two towels. After calling several times, I was finally able to reach the guests and told them where in the bathroom they can find the extra towels and the TP. They looked in the bathroom and found the towels and toilet paper. They wanted more TP and our cleaners took additional TPs to them. The amenities and bedding are the same type the cleaners use in all of the units they clean and we have never had a complaint. The comment about roaches is not true, they never said anything about roach spray or dead roaches. They are angry because they were caught smoking at the pool and were offended that security approached them and reminded them smoking is not allowed. I sent them a copy of the message from security and the guest got very angry and accused us of being very rude. They knew the rules and still smoked by the pools.

Beautiful and Amazing Vacation!!!

This VRBO rental was outstanding! The condo was amazing and I feel that the pictures online did not do it justice! There was a full kitchen, living room, dining table, a huge walk-in bathroom with his and her sinks, a walk-in glass shower, and a separate large tub! It also had its own master bedroom and the bed was very comfy! The closet space was perfect, and even was stocked up with beach chairs, pool noodles, a full ice chest, and even a high chair and booster seat which we didn’t need lol! Can you even believe that there was a washer and dryer with laundry supplies to wash during your stay that was provided all by the landlord! I was also impressed by the glass windows on the patio door that led you out to a patio table with the beautiful view! My husband and I loved our anniversary trip and I would highly recommend booking this condo! The landlord was so awesome to communicate with! There was constant communication from the day I booked and very quick responses throughout the week of our stay! Magnificent stay! Don’t pass on this one!

Love the Honoa Kai resort!

This is our 2nd year to vacation at this resort and we are already planning on another 2 weeks next year. This unit that we stayed in was a good location and we were comfortable. Two areas for improvement though 1. The carpets and upholstery were dirty. 2. The bathroom lighting was very dim. I think there is a short in the wiring as only one of the vanity lights would come on even after we changed bulbs. Also, the cutting board was moldy and we had to sanitize it before we dared using it. The new towel vending machines were a nice improvement over last year. The bellman and valet parking attendants were wonderful.

We are glad that you had a good stay at our condo. We try to make it comfortable and clean for our guests. This condo is cleaned regularly and receives a deep cleaning on a regular schedule. Regarding the lights in the bathroom; the dimmer switch may have been turned down. When we went to check the bulbs we also found one to be loose. After fixing these items the lights worked well. Regarding the cutting board, this was not brought to our attention during your stay. If so we could have replaced it, as we have done now.

Nice no frills resort

We had a fabulous time in Maui- because how can you not?! That being said, we have stayed at several other resorts across the island, and enjoyed them much more than Honua Kai. The room/unit itself was ok - size was good, and it had a well-stocked kitchen. The unit overall could use a refresh, furniture was worn down, large hole in the couch (as mentioned in other reviews), and overall just seems a little old/rundown. The property manager was very accommodating and her communication was good. She was quick to respond when the door batteries were dead, and when we checked in and didn't have enough linens. The tower this unit is in does have a small coffee shop with snacks and such, however its hours were limited. Duke's is the only restaurant on site- pretty location, ok food, hard to get in to- make a reservation! There are several nice pools on property, although we did find it odd that they didn't seem to monitor guests/wrist bands at all. Our last visit to Maui we stayed at the Fairmont and were happy to see them monitoring guests at the pool. The beach is beautiful but not good for swimming - be mindful of coral and rocks, especially if you have young children. We had to drive daily to get to swimmable beaches. The location of the resort is great- quick drive to Napili and Kapalua, and a short drive down to Whaler's Village and the busier Kaanapali area. Overall it was a great visit, and the resort is nice, but definitely not "high end" if that's what you're looking for.

This is our 2nd stay at this resort (2022,2023) and most likely we will come to HK again however, we will not stay at this unit because we had difficulty sleeping. The bed was comfortable but there was a noise which woke us throughout the night and then by early morning there was no sense trying to sleep in. The sound was like someone moving furniture on a tile or wooden floor) We went on a mission to figure it out and it appears that it may be the elevator motor (even stranger than that the elevator is in the attached building, not the one we were actually in.) It took us a few days but when we realized what it may be I texted the property owner about it and it’s the only time he did not communicate with me. Other than that he was always quick to respond. There were a few other minor things we were unhappy about but all in all we still enjoyed our stay. We actually wished we had our grandkids sound machines. We are surprised that we are the only people to complain about the noise. I saw reviews about cleanliness and age of furniture and carpeting but quite honestly that was the least of our complaint.

Awesome Property, very easy beach access

Loved the property, loved the room. You can be on the beach in the water in 5-10 mins but it might take you 20 because you will find yourself walking slow just enjoying the beautiful grounds of the resort. The pool is awesome and easy to find an umbrella during the time we went. Only issue was the sewerage plant across the street. In the evening the smell is overwhelming when you're on the lanai. I would definitely book again!

I’ve stayed at this resort before. Good units, Hectic, overcrowded resort. This time rented a privately owned unit. Way too many rules. Fell short on soap and owner said to buy by own. Not very hospitable, and not affiliated with onsite property management.

Great property!

This condo had all of our needs. The beach chairs were key! A beautiful resort that was great for adults and kid friendly. The beach and pools were lovely. The location felt removed enough from town to feel mellow but still very accessible to everything. The owner was quick to respond and easy to work with. Will definitely stay here again!

Nice u it and property

Great location and nice unit. Family friendly with lots of pools, beaches, and green space with plenty of lounge chairs everywhere. Dukes was east to get into without reservation and grocery was within walking distance. Unit was nice a modernly spacious. But bedding and upholstery was worn and needs replacement. Doors to patio open to make a beautiful extension on the living space - but birds try to fly in. The view of the pool and ocean is only from a small corner of the patio.

Perfect location with amazing views, on site parking garage was great, will be back for sure

Everything was perfect, it was our first family vacation and the property made it very enjoyable, Everything you keep is on site or close in whalers village

A great place to launch from

Just a few minutes down the road from Lahaina, everything around is conveniently located. The condo is nice although the building is starting to show it's age. The grounds are beautiful and well kept.
