My wife, Lynn, and I moved to Italy way back in 1973 after graduating from Beloit College in Wisconsin, where we met. I'm a photographer (George Tatge Photographer, Firenze, Italy) and Lynn teaches English. My mother was Italian and I have lots of relatives here. We have two children, William, a pianist/composer who lives in NYC and Alice, a contemporary dancer who lives in London.
I began my career as a photographer using Todi as a base. I shot mostly portraits and landscapes and was often hired by the Regional authorities to work on large exhibitions which required photographs for its catalogues. I was then hired by the Alinari Archives in Florence to become their Director of Photography, the reason we moved there in 1988. In 2003 I left the archive and returned to free-lancing and to exhibiting my work. I was awarded the Friuli Venezia Giulia prize for photography in 2010. My recent book Italia Metafisica won an IPA award in NY in 2015 and the Hemingway Award in Italy in 2016. You can see some of my work at www.georgetatge.com.
