A "French Country House in Town" with private garden, pool and cinema room
All of the luxury and tranquility of a "French Country House in Town". Situated in the heart of the Bastide Saint Louis, Carcassonne the former Presbytery of the nearby Eglise St Vincent de Carcassonne has been lovingly renovated with an eye to understated luxury.
The house is simply but elegantly styled with a coherent and relaxing theme drawing from local fabric designs. The considerable wall space offered by the high ceilings is perfect to show original artworks by local artists, all lovingly curated by the host - a professional upholsterer and designer.
The ground floor offers an entry into an enormous bright stairwell that leads to the upper floors. Double doors lead to a huge dining room with comfortable seating for 12. To the left is a fully fitted kitchen that has all appliances by the top-of-the-line Italian manufacturer SMEG. To the right is a snug, where you can relax with a book and enjoy the morning light with a coffee. Double doors in the dining room lead out onto a private, secluded, south-facing garden and terrace, featuring - unique in the Bastide - a swimming pool.
On the first floor there are three generously sized double bedrooms all with King/Queen sized beds, antique French dressers, wardrobes and elegant lighting.
The master bathroom has both an oversized bath with swan-neck taps and a walk-in shower. There is also a second shower room and toilet on this floor.
On the second floor the layout is the same with three generous bedrooms, one with twin beds and the others with King beds. This floor has a full bathroom and a shower room both sporting the signature beton ciré used throughout the house.
The cellar has been completely refurbished into a huge, fun space with a Table-Football table, Bar with fridge, full-size Chesterfield sofas and giant Fatboy beanbags to lounge in and chat, or watch the latest films on an immersive big screen projector connected to a Fire Cube.
The hosts are seasoned travellers and the property has been designed to counter their pet peeves whilst vacationing. - All bedrooms have dedicated USB sockets built in, no more forgotten chargers. - There is a Sonos music system in all ground floor rooms and the cellar, allowing for ambient music to be played - we recommend you download the app. - The whole house has high speed internet with dedicated routers on all floors.
All of this just minutes walk from the amazing local restaurants and amenities. The Canal du Midi and Carcassonne Cité are within easy walking distance and yet the back garden is full of bird song with a private pool hidden from view.
We are a family of five who have lived and worked all across the world for the last twenty something years. We were invited to visit friends in Carcassonne whilst we were living in Paris, and we have been returning every year since. A few years ago we were lucky enough to discover this house in Carcassonne, and after completely renovating it, we want to share it with you so that you can explore what Carcassonne and the Aude has to offer.

We fell in love with the house when we walked through the front door and out into the secluded walled garden. The house has so much to offer... the patio with comfy sofas, an outdoor eating area and bbq; six huge bedrooms; easy access to music on the Sonos system... but above all else it has space. There's room to breathe. To relax ... and enjoy a slower pace of life for a while.

The house was designed and constructed to deal with the heat of the south of France. The ground floor ceilings are almost four metres high, and all of the bedrooms have internal wooden shutters. These two things combined keep the temperature inside the house down. We've added lawn around the pool with an automatic watering system - which brings the temperature down in the garden, and there's always a good balanced of sunshine and shade throughout the day. If you're still hot there's the outdoor shower and the pool, or grab a book from the library in the secret passage and curl up on one of the Chesterfields in the cool of the cellar to read, or play pool ...or watch a film.
