We stayed in this home for a week over spring break. There are two great things about this home: the location and the management company, Great Western Lodging. The home is literally across the street from the base of Peak 9 and two blocks from town. You can walk everywhere. Great Western Lodging provided extraordinary service - when we had a problem, they responded immediately.
However, this home is very dated and not in great repair.
- when we arrived, the king-sized bed in the master bedroom was broken. One side was about six inches higher than the other side. Great Western Lodging promptly sent maintenance over and we had to shim the low side of the bed up with a bunch of boards. For $826/night, I expect a bed that is not broken.
- the technology in the home is ancient. There are actually old box TVs in armoires in the spare bedrooms. The owners need to spend $150 at Target for some small flat screen TVs, wall-mount them, and ditch the armoires. The rooms are too small for big armoires. The main living area has a stereo so old it takes cassette tapes, and the flat screen in the main living area is TINY. Again, the owners need to install a decent sized flat screen in the main living area and provide equipment that works with smart phones for music.
- due to the presence of yet another armoire in the main living area, there is only space for one sofa and one chair for seating. The owners need to get rid of the armoire/cabinet, free up some room, and add a love seat to provide more seating. The condo sleeps eight but the living area seats four.
- in addition to the master bed, we had a lot of maintenance issues. The master toilet broke and maintenance had to replace most of the equipment in the tank. The weather-stripping on the sliding glass door came loose and the door wouldn’t close all the way, a major issue when it’s 20 degrees outside.
- the kitchen cabinets are in really bad shape and need to be refinished or painted. The carpet needs to be replaced. The upgrades the owners have done to the kitchen and bathroom counters are nice but incomplete.
While we enjoyed our stay in Breckenridge immensely, we did not enjoy paying $826/night for a home that needed so much work. I commend Great Western Lodging for their responsiveness. This could be a five-star home with a little investment in some new technology and furniture!
