Charming, quiet, and 10 min walk to zoo, Metro, and restaurants

Where else can you be a 10-minute walk from neighborhood restaurants and shops, the National Zoo and Rock Creek Park plus easy Metro access to downtown? Our 575 foot English basement apartment retains some of its Art Deco details and working fireplace with modern amenities. Easily accommodates 4 people with a queen bed plus a double in the pull-out couch. Our neighborhood is quiet, green, and family-friendly.

A private entrance at the back of the apartment leads into the kitchen with a brand-new induction stovetop, both a half refrigerator and a full one in the garage that's accessible through a side door. Washer and dryer are for guests exclusive use.

Full, albeit small, bathroom then the main room with working fireplace, sleeping nook that can be closed off with a folding screen, and an office nook. Sleeping space contains a clothes closet and bureau. Wifi access and Roku TV provided. Seven windows in the apartment bring good light in the afternoon.

If you need parking, please let us know in advance so we can plan to move our car to the street.

We are always available for questions, concerns, and suggestions for restaurants and local sights. We enjoy meeting our guests and offer to serve breakfast in our part of the house one of the mornings that guests stay with us. Completely optional.

To make guests booking as straight-forward as possible, we do not apply other fees such as a cleaning fee.

What a wonderful experience! Victoria and Rob are wonderful hosts, the apartment was perfect for us and a quick metro ride from everything we came to see. Due to the shutdown, we will be back and will absolutely stay here again.

Nice Finished Basement with Amenities

The property was in a nice location, easily walkable to the Woodley Park/Zoo metro station or Cleveland Park metro station. The National Zoo was also right around the block! The place itself was clean, well maintained, and had basically anything you could need. The beds were cozy, even the pullout couch! There was good wi-fi and a TV with a few streaming options. The wall-mounted AC unit struggled a little bit and it did get stuffy, but it was fairly tolerable with the ceiling fan.The only big complaint I have in the end was the amount of noise… I’m usually not one to be woken up, especially multiple times a night, by noise. I’m honestly not sure if it’s just the house itself or what but both my partner and I did not end up sleeping very much due to the volume and frequency of various things from the upstairs host/family. We tried to be fairly quiet ourselves but a lot of the noise was from footsteps above…

It was very conveniently located yo the National Zoo, metro stationd, restaurants and stores. Apt was very clean and in a nice safe neighbor. Hostess greeted us when we arrive and answer our questions and concerns.

We had an excellent stay. The apartment is in a great location. Walking distance to many stores and restaurants and the metro/bus stops. The neighborhood is beautiful, lots of greenery and beautoful landscaping. Perfect for morning walks. The apartment itself was very comfortable and had everything we could have needed and more. As a plus, Victoria and Rob could not have been more welcoming and we knew we were in good hands the minute we got there! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Perfect location to explore DC!

This charming basement apartment is a short walk to the Metro/groceries/zoo and only a few metro stops from the National Mall. Amenities included a small kitchen which allowed us to prepare meals and bag lunches for our trips into DC. Hosts are lovely and we enjoyed our stay immensely.

Great little place for a DC visit

The hosts are wonderful and very helpful. The apartment was easy to find and very close to the metro station. It was everything we needed for a 5-day trip to DC. Next time we visit, we will try to book this again!

Great place for DC adventures!

This was an excellent spot to use as a jumping-off point for exploring the city. The actual rental is a basement apartment in a beautiful neighborhood, less than 10 minutes' walk from a subway station on the red line. We could go from walking out the door to being on the national mall in half an hour or less. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating, and everything was exactly as described in the listing. There was very little noise overall (considering that we were directly underneath their main living space), and it was very quiet at night. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a convenient and comfortable place to land after a day of sightseeing.

Fabulous hosts,

The property was an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of DC. Only a short ride on the metro and easy walking distance to the zoo. All the amenities you would need.Victoria and Rob were super friendly and the communication before we arrived was excellent. They even invited us for breakfast one morning, which was lovely. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Thanks for your hospitality! V

Cozy place in great location

The apartment was just as expected and had all we needed. My husband and I slept well on the queen bed and our teen had the pull out couch- more comfy than you’d expect. There’s no privacy for either sleeping area but the apartment was just the right size for the 3 of us.The hosts were helpful and responsive. It’s in a beautiful neighborhood which is close to 2 metro stops, restaurants, a lovely park and walking/biking trail. We easily got to all our DC destinations. 5 Mon walk to the zoo!The apt is a bit dark but we expected that. We could hear hosts and their guests upstairs in their home but it didn’t bother us. Overall we thought we’d gotten a great deal and will try to book it in the future.

Short trip to DC

When I decided to book this place the pictures shown online was not very eye catching with two of the pictures being blurry. We had all intentions of sight seeing and not being inside the whole trip. The location itself was great. Everything was in walking distance for us. There was food, starbucks and even the Zoo! Our host wasn't there when we first arrived and I was not complaining because it was very quiet. The girls and I loved it. We are very light sleepers. There was very specific instructions left for us on where to find the key. Matter of fact there was two pages of very specfic instructions left on the table about everything so you wouldn't need the host all weekend if you didn't want too. Parking is street parking, which is always horrendous but what do you expect? It was more annoying than anything having to park streets away with luggage. The AC unit started leaking water, it did not affect our personal items but it was an inconvenience. The owner responded promptly when I notified her. The bed was comfortable. I loved the ability to use the washer/dryer. The kitchen was cute. The only problem I had was the kitchen sink had food debris in it. There was a hair bow with blonde/white hair in the soap bowl in the bathroom. The shower was extremely tiny (yes that was explained on the list). There was a stain on one of the pillowcase on the sofa bed. When the host were up you can definitely tell!

Perfect location next to the zoo

This was a great place for our family with a 4 and 6 year old. It was right around the corner from the zoo and a short walk to the metro. The hosts were so great and even got us some drinks and fruit when we got there.

Beautiful, quiet, friendly space

Lovely place to stay during a business trip, vacation, or short-term work assignment. Very walkable neighborhood with access to lovely green spaces and metro line. Wonderful, hospitable hosts!

Victoria and Rob have lived in this 1935 house for 15 years and in that time, have rented the basement to four different, long-term tenants so we are familiar with property management. We are pleased and proud to have had very positive relationships with all of our tenants. We enjoy getting to know our guests and offer to prepare breakfast on one morning during their stay. Living above the basement we are always easily available should guests have any questions or concerns.

This property has character, comfort, and provides access to both urban and natural attractions. Being between two Metro stops (Woodley and Cleveland Parks) on the red line) both a 10 minute-walk away, makes it easy to get anywhere in the city that guests might want to go.

Rob and Victoria have many interests that could be attractive to visitors including knowledge of local history and politics. We enjoy meeting others but only if guests are interested in doing so. To that end, we invite guests to join us for breakfast on day during their stay.
