Unfortunately, our stay began with serious cleanliness concerns. At check-in, we found feces left in the toilet. We photographed it and messaged the host immediately, but did not receive a response that evening. The following morning, we also found a dirty, unwashed plate in the cabinet and an unwashed butter knife in a drawer. We requested that the host come by, and they did visit and hand washed those dishes; however, we did not feel the situation was handled with the level of concern or apology that the condition of the property warranted. The discussion focused largely on the difficulty of finding reliable cleaners rather than resolving the impact on us as guests. We later learned that the toilet issue had been caused by the host’s husband who was there primarily to inspect the cleaning. These issues left us with very little confidence that the accommodations had been thoroughly cleaned before our arrival. We ultimately washed the sheets ourselves because we were uncomfortable relying on the cleanliness of the bedding. We understand that mistakes can happen, but a property should be fully cleaned and inspected before guest check-in, especially the bathroom, kitchenware, and linens. Future guests should consider confirming the cleaning and inspection process before booking.
