Worst Host Ever, VRBO Support not much better
There was a hurricane, and we called the Connect Coastal (the host) to confirm that the power was on. They said it was, but when we arrived, it was not. I contacted the host immediately and they said they would try to help and then nothing. Totally disappeared leaving my wife and I far from home and nowhere to stay. The only place with power that wasn't completely disgusting was a $600 a night hotel. The next day I called and the owner of Connect Coastal answered, said he would see what he could do and would refund me one might. He never got back with me after multiple calls and texts. He has not refunded any money although the house never had power that I am aware of. After 24 hours of not being able to get the host to return my calls, I contacted VRBO help and was told that I would receive a refund and that I would get an email to submit my receipts for the stay I had to book. VRBO then denies my refund because I "canceled" on July 11th which I never did. I do not know if this is a ploy to get out of a refund from the host or just VRBO saving a few dollars. The house was unlivable. The host was grossly negligent, had no concern for the safety of my wife and me and VRBO was no help at all.
