Mountain getaway

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: A simple, clean condo with plenty of room for us—we were just three, but could have fit six. Two bathrooms, which is always a plus. A lovely deck overlooking the woods. Beds could have been a bit more comfortable.

Clean and simple place to stay

You have to go to the office to check in which added about 15 minutes to our trip. Not a big deal. The place is a simple 2 br, 2ba condo. It's clean and has a fireplace. Firewood was provided, but nothing to start it, so bring along some newspaper and kindling. Beds we very firm, which some people like. There was a queen in one room and two twins in the other. Would be good for a family of 4. There's also a sleeper sofa.

Very nice. Noticed a couple of dirty footprint spots on the carpet. The microwave could use an upgrade. Also, confusing instructions when leaving: It says to load dishwasher and start it, and also says to shut off water. Dishwasher can't run if water is not on.

Convenient and clean

Convenient to all ski trails and easy 15 min drive into Davis and Thomas. All appliances work beautifully even though old.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Nice condo, good value for the price. We have stayed at this unit before. Perfect location to drive to any if the nearby ski spots quickly. As mentioned in previous reviews, the master bedroom bed is very comfortable, but the twin beds in the 2nd room could really use soft mattress pads. I expect some day they’ll upgrade on that issue, in the meantime we bring camping pads for the twin beds, and that makes our stay perfect.

Well appointed, great location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The rental agency was easy to work with. The condo was clean and well-appointed, and being a corner unit had more windows and light than most. Loved the massage head in each shower after a long day. Enjoyed some of the games and puzzles provided. WiFi worked well, given the rural location. Appreciated the extra linens/towels/blankets - didn’t need them, but nice to know they are there. As mentioned in past reviews, the twin beds in the second bedroom are way too firm, hope they get a soft mattress pad or topper for them and it would make the place perfect. To be clear, the master bedroom queen bed was very comfy, as it already has an added pillow-top pad, but the twin beds in the second bedroom should both have that too.

Fall family vacation

The condo was very clean amd quiet. We loved the cozy atmosphere. Just disappointed that the internet did not work the entire time we were there and we couldn't call out long distance to let family know we had arrived safely. But overall a beautiful weekend. Also management was amazing in letting us get an extra day due to car problems.

Great Place to Stay

Our family had a great time staying at this apartment. Everyone of five of us had pl of space. Pool was great. Location is great. Overall we had a great time !

Not a good rental

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Beds in rental were extremely hard, and they had not been cleaned. We had to buy a mattress pad and pillows, and we still had back problems from the hard beds.The apartment complex was out of date.I also never saw anyone from the property management company. I'm not sure they are in the office. When I called to tell them I left the keys in their office, they did not ask if I liked the property. I'm sure they knew the answer would not be good.Overall, a very bad experience.

When we do, we deal exclusively with Best of Canaan. They are definitely "the best" in Canaan Valley!

Not so sure

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very unhappy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The condo was clean, except the couch had terrible wet dog odor. Appliances are dated but functional. Cooking pots and utensils were appropriate and had a lot of condiments. Mattress in master bedroom is extremely hard and uncomfortable; the pad on it was too old and flattened/warned out--they should either replace the mattress or at least add a new thick mattress pad. Bed linens did not feel freshly cleaned. Directions in map provided by management are limited, even though the office is only minutes away. I recommend arriving before dark.Overall, for the prize, the condo offers a lot for people who want to save and cook all meals and simply relax. We made the best of it, but it did not meet our expectations. It might do for other visitors who don't mind the odor. The dog order and hard mattress should be addressed!!!!

I'd Do It Again

I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Stayed in "The Penthouse" in mid-July. We wanted a quiet stay as it was a "working vacation" for me and I needed to do some reading. There was only one other family staying in the building, so it worked well. Not much of a view, only a forest, but ok. Unit was nice and clean, though there was a musty smell upon entering. Unit had not been rented all summer. The water heater had been turned off and I had problems turning it back on. Management sent out a repairmen quickly to turn it on. The charcoal grille is a good distance away from the unit and not feasible for use. Towels smelled musty as well. Overall we enjoyed the stay and I would recommend it to friends and family after noting the above. It is perfect if you want rest and quiet.

Response from property owner: Having owned Beaver Ridge 121 for 22 years, I always welcome constructive comments from guests. The view from my property is the Monongahela National Forest. Just a few feet from my deck is an abundance of wildlife. Prior to your arriving, a family had visited for the 4th of July weekend. Instructions for turning on the water heater are posted in the unit. I will add additional copies of the instructions. The grill for Ash Lodge is located at the opposite end of the building in a picnic area and is used often by residents and guests. Best of Canaan and their housekeeping services have always taken great care so that the unit is 100%. At any time during your arrival or stay, if anything is not up to your standards, Donna Patrick and her crew will do their best to address any concerns. Thank you for your overall recommendation. I am glad you enjoyed your stay at The Penthouse.

Cheap hotel room alternative

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Price, location and cleanliness are all great qualities. Nothing "penthouse" about it. Dated and cheap furnishings. Feels like staying a dormitory rather than a wilderness vacation property. Arrived late to find that policy is to make the guest turn on water and flip circuit breakers to turn on severely undersized water heater. A nightmare with a fussy baby that can't explain cheapskate policy. Ironically they request you leave on hot water to be convenient for cleaners!
