We purchased historical Barracca after scouring the California Coast for a unique waterfront property that provided; open water & landscape vistas, easy boat/kayak access, beautiful sunsets, and as 'Old California Coastal' character as we could find !
The original cabin and it's site have over a 100 year history too incredible to convey here! Safe to say we found the location, views and non touristy rural surroundings too captivating to leave. Barracca retains it's coastal lodge character and including a few of the antiques from the original home in the early 1900's while also upgrading all features: providing casual elegance and retreat amenities.
It has been a treasure to their family for multi-generation reunions, and also a refreshing change from the pace of life in the Bay Area.

Barracca is on a very unique location for the Point Reyes & Tomales Bay area; unlike most other vacation rentals it is on its own private drive, waterfront, and secluded from the car noise of Hwy 1, which is at the back door of most other home rentals in the area.
Tomales Bay; this section of coast is one of the most untouched natural coastal areas within 1 hour of San Francisco. Unlike much of California it has changed very little in 60+ years!
We were charmed by the surrounding organic pasture lands of the Marin Hills & astounded at the ever-changing horizon over Tomales Bay each hour of the day, and each season of the year.
There was no larger waterfront parcel on the entire shoreline of Tomales bay with easy boating/kayaking access, nearby hiking,biking, or with such seclusion. Of course the miracle to us is this gem is only an easy 1 hour drive from San Francisco. ( AND, so few people seemed to know about it!)
Hiking out to Tomales Point past herds of Tule elk, biking rural roads, kayaking at sunset, sailing, fishing,or just lounging on the deck provide restoration of the soul for our hectic family life in the Bay area.
We are 'Foodies' at heart and you just can't beat the wonderful locally grown foods served at the numerous great restaurants nearby or sold at the markets in Pt Reyes Station.
One of our favorite things to do after a full day in the park or on Tomales Bay is to head over to Hog Island Oyster company ( few minutes drive) to buy a few dozen oysters, go to the local market for their great organic produce, local wines,fresh seafood and gourmet cheeses.....then head home to Barracca for a sunset BBQ......making S'amores.....then a soak in the spa under the stars !
For longer stays; day trips to Napa Valley, Russian River, San Francisco, or Bodega Bay are all possible........After owning Barracca site for over 30 we are still discovering new hikes, and new adventures in the surrounding area. (And great dining too)

Barracca is graced with one of the largest secluded shore footage lots on the E. Shore of Tomales Bay while also being distanced enough from HWY 1 to ensure quiet, privacy & beautiful sunsets. Most other rental homes that are waterfront also have Hwy 1 at their back door: which means the contstant sounds of cars or motorcycles....not really a restful nature ambiance. The home also has a private generous front lawn, kayak or paddle board launch, and a relaxing hammock.
Barracca is equipped with everything you would need for gourmet cooking.
Once here the worries of the world seem to melt away with the changing tides and sky.
There is a small beach a short walk from our door. Kayak rentals and boat launches just down the road. Gourmet dining and quaint turn of the century western towns a short drive away.

Our guests and family often choose to never leave Barracca for their entire stay just to relax and enjoy viewing the Bay, wildlife, sea life and birds.
The location of Barracca lends itself to short drives to the north to Dillon Beach, Bodega Bay or the other charming rural towns and beaches of Sonoma. Day trips to Sonoma ,Healdsburg, Napa, and the wine country are entirely feasible as well. To the South is the quaint western town of Point Reyes Station, Bolinas & Inverness. Across the Tomales Bay by kayak or car are thousands of acres and miles of diverse hiking trails, horseback riding, a lighthouse to explore, and naturalist guided hikes from the Point Reyes Visitor Center at Bear Valley.
At Barracca the Great Room has a pretty full DVD & music selection as well as shelves of books,local hiking ,wildlife guides, a game & toy cabinet. There is also a connection dock for your MP3 or IPod at the stereo.
The deck has full western views for incredible sunsets, a picnic table for dining outside, and a new Jacuzzi for4-6, perfect for stargazing at the night sky!
