Great location. Good appliances. Property only air conditioned in one part. Bedrooms unbearable to sleep in. Wife and children had to sleep in lounge all week. Terrible drains in downstairs bedroom omitting smell that rendered the room inhabitable.

Lovely place

The family and I had a great stay at the house just like the previous review said it is very quirky when we got there the owner showed us round and how everything worked the place was spotless with loads of space to spend time together but also places to sit and relax on your own. The house is on quiet street right in the middle of alvor and only 2 minute walk to the maiin street where all the bars and restaurants are. All in all we had a great stay and we will be back. A big thank for mario and dora for letting us stay .

Great location and everything you need for a large family

Wonderful host in a great property. Great location and excellent for a family of adults mixed with young children. Contains all amenities and services needed deform a carefree holiday. We loved it and will be back .

A Gem!

Stayed June 8 to June 13. What can I say? There’s too much to say. Myself and three friends stayed at Mario’s. Upon arriving he was there to greet us. We had a rental car and there was a little space for us to park it, where it stayed the entire time because it was so easy to get around without it. Ubers are very cheap and convenient. Mario then walked us through the house and chatted a bit about the area, he even took us for a little jaunt around neighbourhood! The rooms all have their own bathrooms with showers, which made us feel like we all had our own little spaces. The only thing I would suggest is that the beds have mattress toppers so the bottom sheet would stay in place. Overall, comfy beds. Although the kitchen is very well appointed we didn’t cook. There were too many amazing spots just around the corner for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And the wine, wow. The beach was a 15-20 min walk depending on the many different sections to choose from. It’s clean and beautiful. One day we rented bikes from Marco, who has a shipping container by the public pool full of great bikes, and rode the compacted sand trail that runs between the beach and estuary. We then rode back to the boardwalk that runs the opposite direction and stopped for drinks and food at one of the MANY little restaurants along the way. Alvor seems to have everything, and we loved our stay. Mario’s place only made it better. PS-the dipping pool was a dream. Can’t wait to return!

Heerlijk vakantiehuis!

De eigenaar Mario heeft een huis gecreëerd waar je je thuis voelt! Het contact met Mario verliep vlot en soepel. Heb je vragen dan reageerde hij gelijk wat erg prettig is. Het plaatsje Alvor is niet zo groot maar een plaats om tot rust te komen. Zee en wandelpaden in overvloed. We komen zeker terug! Anja en Bart

Outstanding house and perfect location!

This property is fantastic! Mario greeted us and took us through everything in the house and also gave us a short tour of the village which was much appreciated! Short walk to the beach and the house is located just off the Main Street excellent location for dining. House is on 3 levels so everyone had their own space. There are a few stairs so probably not suited to anyone with mobility issues. We will return! Thanks for an amazing holiday!

Absolutely Amazing!

Mario's house is absolutely stunning and made us feel at home instantly. We stayed for 4 nights and wish we could have stayed longer! Mario welcomed us to his home and showed us around the main spots to visit while we were in Alvor, which we really appreciated. The house is stunning from the wooden accents to the mosaic pool. It is right in the centre of all the restaurants and bars but you do not hear the noise from the house. The beach is a 5 minute walk away. We really enjoyed that each room had a bathroom and the amount t of space. I could not reccomend this house more. Already planning our trip back!! Thank you for having us Mario, it was the highlight of our trip to Portugal!

Sehr sehr schöne und spannende Wohnung in zentraler Lage

Wohnung: Die Wohnung liegt ruhig im "Hinterhaus" und erstreckt sich über drei Ebenen. Zunächst liegen zur Linken ein Zimmer und der kleine Pool, über eine Außentreppe geht es weiter zum eigentlichen Wohnbereich mit Wohn-, Esszimmer bzw. der sehr gut ausgestatteten Küche. Eine Etage höher liegen zwei weitere Schlafzimmer sowie ein kleiner Balkon. Durch die Küche erreicht man die windgeschützte und nicht einsehbare Terasse mit Grill und Esstisch. Hinter der Terasse liegt ein viertes Schlafzimmer. Alle Schlafzimmer verfügen über eigene Bäder. Die Wohnung ist großzügig, zweckmäßig und mit viel Geschmack (der unserem entsprach ;-) ) gestaltet. Die Bilder geben die Wohnung korrekt wieder. Wir haben die Wohnung mit vier Erwachsenen und einem Kind bewohnt und fanden mehr als genug Platz. Lage: Die Wohnung liegt absolut zentral und sehr ruhig. Am Wochenende kann es, bedingt durch die nahe Kneipenmeile, schon mal etwas lauter werden, aber das ist wohl eine Einschränkung mit der man umgehen können sollte, wenn man derart "im Leben" wohnen darf. Zum Strand sind es fußläufig ca. 10 Minuten. Ganz toll: Sonnenschirme und Strandspielzeug liegen im Hauseingang zum Ausleihen bereit! Stellplätze für ein Auto sind in den umliegenden Gassen ausreichend vorhanden. Einfach immer so parken, daß noch jemand vorbei kommt. Vermieter: Dora und Mario sind einfach toll! Wir hatten eine schöne Zeit und sagen Danke!!!

Quirky townhouse.

Very good location about 2 minutes walk from the main street. Well equipped property, with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, etc. Seems to be a property where bits were added on periodically. There are a few sets of stairs to climb to reach the property and it's upstairs rooms. For that reason, I think this property is more suited to able-bodied adults. The only negatives I found were that there was only air-conditioning downstairs and also that there isn't really a sun-bathing terrace. However, there were fans in all rooms. The owners lived next door and were a very nice couple, and very helpful. I would still recommend this property and would have no hesitations about returning.

Lovely house in a perfect location

This is an ideal house for a larger group. Each bedroom has its own beautifully decorated bathroom and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor space. So whether you want to sit and chat, or read quietly, there's space for everyone. The location is also perfect for eating arrangements - if you decide to eat at home, there are numerous shops within walking distance. If you eat out, there are restaurants within a few minutes' walk - 'The Green Door' for example (where they serve fantastic fish). Mario & Dora provide all the necessary information and respond quickly to questions or requests. The house is clean and comfortable and the kitchen has good utensils, good knives, fridge, espresso machine ... We found Alvor to be a great base for walking - there are several good walks nearby. Our specific interest was bird-watching and we saw all kinds along the boardwalks but also north along the estuary and over the sluice into the salt marshes. For more distant birding trips we went to Monchique in the mountains (+ Silves) and another day we went to the Salgados. We didn't rent cars (six of us) but used the excellent company '"Algarve Need a Lift" who are wonderfully efficient, pleasant and worthwhile. On other occasions we took trains & buses which are also good but the information is not easy to find alas. We (six adults) had a fantastic week and this was partly due to Mario & Dora's house which is so pleasant and so easy. If we return to Alvor, this house would certainly be top of our list!

Excellent Location- Rustic charm

Mario's house in unique and comfortable. Everything had been recently "refreshed" and was very clean. Beautiful tiles and nice details. The location is literally a stone's throw from the main street in the old town and harbor, and about a 15 minute walk to the beach the other direction. Couldn't be better. It was unusually chilly during our recent mid April stay, but there were space heaters in the bedrooms, and the heatpump/AC in the main living area kept us quite toasty while inside. The kitchen was fully equipped. The bathrooms are updated, but note that most are very small and in two of them, the floor & shower are level, so that when you shower the entire bathroom gets wet, including in the one bathroom the toilet area and sink become soaked. (they are located immediately next to one another, and the entire bathroom is behind a glass shower-type folding door). However, having 4 ensuite bathrooms is amazing and rare in an old home like this! Additionally, there is a very nice tub in the 5th bathroom on the main living area. There is also a hand sprayer, but no permanent mount, so that is really just for bathing. The water pressure was good and the water was warm. Mario could not have been more accommodating or helpful. He took us on a little walking tour of the area and gave some great suggestions. In particular the Churrascuria where he recommended we eat the Piri Piri chicken was superb!!! great tip! he also showed us the nearest local market, that was really wonderful. The large supermarket is very close, as well. The negatives for our group were the orientation of the bedrooms. Since we had 2 children, the fact that 2 of the bedrooms were truly separate from the main living space of the house, meant going outside and down 16 stairs to one bedroom, and outside through the outdoor dining to get to the other. We just had to get "creative" with who roomed together, but that was just specific to our group. otherwise, the layout offers good privacy for sleeping. Also, LOTS of steps throughout, so not for anyone with any mobility issues. And parking, while usually available somewhere nearby, was very tricky. The town is old and the roads are extraordinarily narrow and winding. We had a large van, and found it much more practical to park nearer to the beach side of town than directly outside Mario's. Thanks for a great and unique stay!

Full of character

Mario and Dora were perfect hosts.There if needed but given complete privacy.The house is in a perfect location.Close to restaurants,bars and beach.Tastefully converted, retaining character but also with every mod con.A real home from home.I would recommend this to any group of friends or a large family.

Perfect location

This apartment is in the ideal spot for enjoying Alvor center shopping and nightlife. You walk around the corner and you're there! Close to the beach as well! Lots of space and privacy between bedrooms. Kitchen adequately stocked with cooking supplies. Dishwasher, washing machine, good sized refrigerator. Tv worked well. Cooled down in the evenings with just a window open. We always found parking nearby for our car. It wasn't a problem (we stayed the last week of September) To be noted: there are many steps/stairs between rooms. Be aware if you have trouble walking up stairs. Also, animal allergies: a dog lives on the premises. Owners were welcoming and helpful! We enjoyed visiting with them.

Great house, perfect location!

This is a great house and exactly as described. Lots of space for everyone...we were a party of nine. Lovely outdoor space with barbecue which we used most evenings. Location could not be better for beach, restaurants and bars. Mario and Dora are excellent hosts and always around if you need them. We would love to visit Alvor again and stay in this lovely house!!!

Fantastic location for everything

House was much bigger than we thought ideal for our grown up family....everybody had their own space. All amenities within the house were as described and just what we needed. Fantastically located within the village 2 minutes walk to shops, restaurants and daily market. The beach about 5 minutes walk was a daily trip for us. Mario and Dora couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming.

Casa fantastica!!!

Acabamos de pasar 5 dias en esta casa 2 familias con dos hijos adolescentes cada una. Tiene de TODO!!! Incluida una pequeña piscina. Menaje completísimo y todas las comodidades q no te esperas en una casa de vacaciones. Ademas es bonita y acogedora (como sus dueños). Gracias por todo Mario y Dora, teneis una casa fantastica!!!

Alojamiento familiar ideal en Alvor

El pasado mes de agosto mi familia y yo nos alojamos en la casa Mario y Dora en Alvor. La ubicación de la casa es inmejorable ya que está situada en el centro del pueblo y a su vez permite ir andando a la playa. Cuenta con habitaciones y zonas de estar muy amplias y que se ajustan a la perfección a la descripción que los propietarios ofrecen. A pesar de una distribución muy peculiar, es muy acogedora y la piscina, aunque pequeña, es ideal para un chapuzón y un aperitivo. Dora y Mario fueron muy atentos y amables con nosotros y siempre dispuestos a ayudarnos en todo momento. Lo único mejorable sería haber tenido más espacio de almacenaje en las habitaciones y en los baños. Es una propiedad muy recomendable y desde luego nosotros estaríamos encantados de poder volver.
