A real gem!

Tradewinds was a terrific choice for our family of four adults - our first trip to St John. If you are planning to stay on the east side of the island, you don't need to look any further. Tradewinds offers spectacular views, comfortable accommodations, easy access to great beaches and snorkeling, amazing stargazing, beach gear and a fully equipped kitchen. Krista is a super friendly, helpful and responsive host. We can't wait to return!

Magnificent Views from the Deck

Tradewinds is a wonderful spot off the beaten path in the Salt Pond area. After a day exploring the island we would return to views of Norman Island and Coral Bay. Krista was very informative and responsive to any inquiries. I highly recommend Tradewinds.

Perfection -again!

This is our second stay at Tradewinds and it was once again perfect! The view is breathtaking! The cottage is clean and has everything you need for a perfect visit. Krista checks in from time to time and responds quickly to questions. Great place to stay - don’t miss out!

Return to Paradise

Tradewinds Cottage has everything you need for a St John vacation. Well equipped kitchen plus coolers and beach chairs for hitting some of the best beaches in the world. A deck with a fabulous view high above the ocean. Comfortable furniture inside and out. Neat and very clean. You may be on the “quiet” side of St John but there many bars and restaurants for those days when you want to eat out. The island is small so no attractions are very far away. Krista, the host, treated us like family and was quickly available by text to fix any minor problem. My strongest recommendation for Tradewinds Cottage is that this was our fifth time there.

The view from this property overlooking the ocean is fabulous. We could hear the waves hitting the shore. We would spend the evenings lying on the deck amazed seeing the stars overhead. This property is on the quiet side of the island away from all the lights of Cruz Bay allowing for the wonderful nighttime light show!

Winter Vacation

My wife and I stayed at Tradewinds with some friends for a week in the sun! The house was perfect for us with two private sleeping spaces and associated bathrooms. The views from the home are breathtaking. The home was very clean and located 10-15 minutes from Coral Bay resulting in a quiet and secluded stay while being close close to great food and beaches. Krista was an excellent host: she was very responsive with messages before and during our trip. We would 100% stay here again.

Perfect!!

This was perfect for our family! The downstairs bedroom was enjoyed by our 18 and 22 year old sons…a nice separation for them. Everything we needed was available (beach chairs, beach towels, cooler and beach bags,). The view is insurmountable- anytime of the day. We fell in love with Tradewinds and will be back!

Perfect for Couple

This was our fifth trip renting a home in St. John and our fourth staying in Coral Bay area. Tradewinds is our favorite to date! The house is well appointed and the interiors are up to date and very tasteful. It is very slightly trapezoid in plan which adds to the charm. We were a little concerned on booking that it did not have AC, but it was not an issue. There was steady breeze all day. In fact, it could be cool in the evening. The location was ideal for us, located between two of our favorite haunts, Miss Lucy's and Salt Pond, and close to the main road so getting in and out was a breeze (has been issue at other rentals). We were able to reach the northern and east end beaches in 20 minutes (don't miss Haulover north if you snorkel). We did not have any issues but the Owner checked in on us to make sure everything . We had a wonderful time and would definitely book again.

Everything, and then some.

Location high above the sea with endless views. Early morning on the deck with a coffee watching the sun rise. Ahhh! Cottage is equipped with everything you need if you want to eat in and several eating and drinking places five minutes away in Coral Bay. Beaches and hiking and snorkeling minutes away. The current owners have upgraded and beautified the cottage. We won’t go anywhere else on St John.

Perched on a hillside

Perched on a hillside with excellent views & easy access.. We four adults had plenty of room with two bedrooms. Kitchen is well appointed. Large sea facing windows in every room. Great deck for afternoons after exploring & snorkeling. Beds & pillows very comfortable. We signed into Netflix & PBS with our code. Wifi is spotty but adequate. (I hear that is Island wide though.). Wonderful breeze all day & night. Very safe, quiet & private setting. Krista, the host is very responsive & very friendly. She was a great help when one of us needed direction for a medical issue that occurred. She has a very positive/ can do attitude. It was a pleasure working with her.

Great place to stay.

For two adults Tradewinds is pretty close to perfect. The cottage itself felt very light and airy with amazing views of John’s Folly. Check in was easy and the owner was very responsive to questions. Like most of St. John, you would be wise to utilize a four wheel drive Jeep to access the house. But don’t worry, the driveway is not crazy steep like some and is easy to find.

A wonderful stay at a beautiful cottage!

Our experience was A+ in every way. Krista was a communicative host and her home is the perfect place to enjoy the Coral Bay side of St John. We enjoyed hiking, snorkeling, reading, cooking and relaxing. Tradewinds is so comfortable for sleeping with cool breezes and the view from the deck all day is sublime. You will not find a rental better set up for cooking and enjoying meals without the need to eat out every night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!

Amazing Views!

Trade winds has the most amazing views and also lives up to its name with cool, constant winds that remind you that you are squarely in a sailors dream. Loved seeing BVI lights at night and sunrise in the morning. The cottage has everything you need for beach excursions. Less than 5 minutes to Salt Pond beach and the beautiful Rams Head trail. Missing SJ already!

Great stay

Tradewinds is a charming cottage perched on a hillside with incredible views. It is on the sleepier side of St. John, which made it even more relaxing, but there are small grocery stores and a handful of restaurants just a 10 minute drive away. There are a few beautiful beaches nearby and it's a 20-30 minute drive to the more popular beaches on the north side of the island. Krista was extremely responsive and helpful throughout. We really enjoyed our visit!

Everything we had hoped for, more than expected.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in paradise, but wanted to take our 18 and 20 year old children with us. Tradewinds was perfect to help us accomplish this ambitious goal. It provided gorgeous views, comfortable and clean accommodations, and quick easy access to the best beach and hike we found on the island. We did Ram Head hike twice we liked it so much - arguably the best sunset on the island. And the Beach at Salt Pond Bay had some of the best snorkeling on the island, and was never crowded or loud. We wanted to go to the Coral Bay side for quiet time together, and found that at Tradewinds, complete with games, a fun dvd library, cd collection, and everything we could want. It is not huge - cute, quaint, comfortable. The word "intimate" comes to mind. An intimate space with a magnificent view of the BVI, sky, and deep blue ocean. Hard to imagine a more perfect place on earth to make memories with the family, ponder the meaning of life, or just laugh at "The Hangover" after drinking a few painkillers.... When we go back to St. John, we will plan our vacation around availability of Tradewinds. I can't imagine we would enjoy any other house on the island as much.

Best View on St. John!! No need to look any further!

If you are considering a visit to St. John, your search should end here. Krista and Lenny's place is absolutely fabulous! Once you get there, the view is even more breathtaking than these pictures can portray. Not only will you have the best view, this house was by far the most equipped rental we have ever booked. While we only cooked one meal, the place has everything you need and more for all of your meal preparation. They also have the place stocked with beach items for use including towels, an umbrella, chairs, and coolers. Despite having limited cell service, the rental has Wi-Fi and a phone for local calls. Both Krista and the property manager can be easily reached. The night we decided to cook, the gas tank on the grill was empty. I sent Krista a message and before my husband could even turn the oven on, she replied back and was on the phone with me to give me instructions of where to locate the spare tank. I cannot say enough good things about this rental. It was more than we could have hoped for and far exceeded all of our expectations for our magical trip to St. John. If we decide to come back again, I would not even consider booking somewhere else to stay! P.S if you are undecided on staying in Cruz Bay vs. Coral Bay.....stay in Coral Bay....you won't be disappointed. Also, this rental also is only about a 1 minute drive down to Salt Pond Bay which was one of our favorite beaches on the trip and had some excellent snorkeling.

Only good vibes!

This was our first trip to St. John and we were pleased to pick a villa on this side of the island as it made for a very relaxing experience. The villa is a very short drive from Salt Pond which we found to be the best snorkeling spot during our trip. A must try snack are the conch fritters from "Homemade meals to go" next to the Jolly Dog. Between the Dolphin Market and the Love City Market you can find everything you need for meals, snacks, and beverages. There is a consistent breeze to keep you cool with the screened windows and doors open. The sounds of the ocean make for a good night's sleep.

Exactly what I pictured and hoped for--which is rare. The property manager and owner were both delightful to deal with and good communicators. We've been coming to the islands for 35 years and this place felt like coming home.

Breezy Coral Bay/Concordia Delight!

This was a perfect set up for our party of 4 and allowed our young adult girls to have their own area downstairs. We all loved the star/satellite gazing and the beautiful daytime views off the deck. We enjoyed the proximity to Salt Pond and Lameshur Bays, and were really glad we were in a quieter area of the island as it was extremely busy during our visit. (Walking to Salt Pond via a Concordia trail was fun and safe). The busy activities of the resident Hermit/Soldier crabs and Kestrels were very entertaining and enjoyable. Lastly, we were thankful for the communication of the owner & property manager when Hurricane Elsa's approach was causing some concern.

I am a girl of all kinds of trades and generally full of ideas for new and exciting ventures. Which is how we ended up here on St. John. My husband Lenny and I love traveling along with our now grown children and our two Labradors, we have wonderful friends and family. We are blessed with so many gifts from others. I love horticulture, gardening and creating new spaces. I am a graduate from both the University of Maryland and also a graduate from The New York Botanical Garden School of Professional Horticulture. I help manage a 100 acre vineyard on Long Island and I own and operate my own design and horticultural firm for private residences. I did most of my studying in Tuscany, Italy and also building rooftop gardens in Manhattan, New York. Lenny my husband is a consultant in the financial banking world. We are a great team and coming to St. John was one of the best things that we have ever decided to do. We love people of all sorts and making new friends and Tradewinds has helped introduce us to the many wonderful people that have crossed our path because of our mutual love for such a beautiful place in the world.

After vacationing for several years in Virgin Gorda and then deciding to "go American" we came to St. John and vacationed here for about 6 years. After we lost all of the elderly loved ones in our family within a relatively short period of time, we decided that we needed to do something fun for us. One day I saw a real estate listing for Tradewinds and I said to my husband, "hey what do you think of this place?" his response, "let's make an offer!" We hadn't even visited Tradewinds. The photos that you see are what we saw. We just went with our gut and dove right in! Here we are. So excited and so happy to be able to share our home with so many wonderful people.

The great thing about Tradewinds is you can relax and do nothing or you can fill your day with hiking, swimming, snorkeling or go shopping in Cruz Bay or even St. Thomas. That is what I love about this place. But for us, we are very big supporters of our National Parks and living near to the NP was key for us. It creates a place and atmosphere like no other with beauty and tranquility all around us. Our home Tradewinds lets in the beauty of the outside surrounding area. From the wide and large windows throughout the cottage you can see the mountainside of the National Park and then also three sides of the ocean and islands all around you. You can't escape the beauty anywhere even from within the house. Its natural light glowing through the windows all day gives you such warmth from within. It is just so special. The outdoor deck and sitting area. The bedrooms with their large windows. We have stayed at so many homes in the area and this house I knew was special. It just feels like home and there is no other way to say it.
