FALL IN SPOKANE, WITH EVERYONE UNDER ONE ROOF
You booked the flights months ago. Move-in weekend, Parents Weekend, a Zags home game, or just the first Thanksgiving where everybody actually shows up. And then comes the part nobody enjoys: working out where nine people are going to sleep. Two hotel rooms and a rollaway. A dorm-room floor. Somebody's cousin's basement. A weekend of texting each other "where are you" across three buildings.
That is the trip you are trying to avoid. This house is the other option.
Five true bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a fireplace on in the main room, and a fenced backyard where the dog and the grandkids can both be let loose. It sits on Five Mile Prairie on Spokane's north side — ten minutes from Whitworth, fifteen from Gonzaga, fifteen from downtown, twenty from the airport. Close enough that you are never driving far, quiet enough that everyone sleeps.
WHO THIS HOUSE IS FOR
Families coming to Spokane for a campus weekend, and multi-generational groups who want one address. Grandparents get a main-floor king and a flat, step-free walk from the driveway. Parents get a second king downstairs with a door that closes. Kids get a mural bedroom, a playground, a fire pit and a giant Connect 4. The dog gets a fenced yard. Everyone gets a bed — nobody negotiates for the couch.
It also works beautifully for a group of friends in for a game or a conference, for a film or work crew that needs a base and a table to spread out on, and for a family in town for a wedding or a funeral who need somewhere soft to land.
WE HOST THIS HOUSE PROPERLY
We are Superhosts, we answer fast, and we have hosted this home to a 4.95 average across nearly forty stays. Guests tell us the same three things over and over: it is spotless, it is well stocked, and we pick up the phone.
"What a peaceful retreat for our family visit. The backyard is like an oasis. The main floor is absolutely lovely and cozy." — Trevor, Portland
"It's just as pictured — clean, spacious, and comfortable." — Kelsi, New York
"This was probably the best well-stocked place we've stayed at."
"The home was absolutely perfect and by far the best of all that we have stayed at in Spokane."
THE MAIN FLOOR
Vaulted ceilings, big windows and an open plan, so the room does not shrink when nine people are in it. The gas fireplace is the centre of the house from October onward — there is a deep sofa, two armchairs and a rug you will end up sitting on. The smart TV above it has cable and the streaming apps.
The kitchen is the real hero. Pale wood cabinetry, a marble dining table that seats six, and a green island with four more stools — ten seats, which means one dinner rather than two shifts. Stainless appliances, a gas range, an oven with an air-fry setting, a full-size refrigerator and freezer, a dishwasher, blender, toaster, kettle, baking sheets, wine glasses and proper cooking basics. We leave locally roasted coffee and a coffee maker out for you, because arriving at midnight and finding no coffee in the morning is a bad way to start a trip.
Three of the five bedrooms are on this floor: a king with its own smart TV, a queen, and a single room with a painted tree mural that younger guests claim immediately. A full bathroom serves them.
THE LOWER LEVEL, AND THE SPEAKEASY
Downstairs is the part people photograph. We built a proper speakeasy lounge — exposed brick bar, hand-painted murals across the walls, bar stools, a big sectional and a large-screen TV. It is where the adults end up after the kids go down: cards, a film, a drink poured at your own bar. Nothing else in this pocket of Spokane has one.
Alongside it: the fourth bedroom (king, smart TV), the fifth (double), a bonus futon that sleeps one adult or two children, a third full bathroom, the laundry, and exercise equipment for anyone keeping a routine on the road. There is a digital piano down here too.
A straight word about this floor: it is a basement, and it runs cooler than upstairs. In August that is the best room in the house. From October on we keep space heaters down there and extra blankets in the closets, and we would rather tell you now than have you find out at 2am.
THE BACKYARD
Fully fenced, which matters if you are travelling with a dog or a toddler. There is an expansive deck under a pergola, outdoor seating, a BBQ grill, and a stone fire pit set into a flagstone patio with a low stone wall to sit on. String lights overhead. A playground and a playhouse for the kids. Giant outdoor Connect 4 on the deck.
And an apple tree. Guests keep mentioning it — one wrote that the backyard was so cute and they loved picking the apples from the tree. In September and October it earns its keep. Bring a bowl.
Out front there is a wide lawn and flat, easy parking for four to six vehicles in the driveway, plus a space in the garage.
SPOKANE, FROM HERE
Whitworth University, ten minutes. Gonzaga University, fifteen — for a basketball game, a graduation, or the long weekend where you help your student move a futon up three flights. WSU Health Sciences Spokane, fifteen. Spokane Falls Community College, eight.
Downtown and Riverfront Park are fifteen minutes, with the falls at their loudest in the fall and the SkyRide running over them. Kendall Yards, eleven minutes, is the walkable riverside stretch everyone recommends — coffee at Indaba, brunch at The Yards, the Centennial Trail running along the gorge. Manito Park and its botanical gardens are fifteen minutes and are genuinely spectacular in October.
For the outdoors: Riverside State Park and the Bowl and Pitcher basalt formations, fifteen minutes. Indian Painted Rocks and the Little Spokane River, eleven. Sky Prairie Park is an eleven-minute walk from the front door, with two playgrounds, walking paths and a tennis court — and sledding once the snow comes. Mount Spokane is forty-five minutes: fall colour drives and hiking now, skiing and snowshoeing soon after.
Closer to home, Five Mile Shopping Center is four minutes for groceries, and NorthTown Mall is eight. Cascadia Public House and Das Stein Haus are both about four minutes. The Barrel Steak and Seafood House is five. Swinging Doors, the north-side sports bar with sixty-odd screens, is six — useful on a game day you are not at. Chaos Arcade, with ninety games and free-roam VR, is six minutes and has rescued more than one rainy afternoon. 1898 Public House at the Kalispel Golf and Country Club is nine minutes and worth it for the patio views.
Spokane International Airport is a twenty-minute drive. Uber and Lyft run reliably out here.
HOW IT WORKS
Book your dates. Check in yourself from 4pm — no key handover, no waiting on us, whatever time you land. Walk into a house that is already warm, already stocked, with coffee on the counter and beds made. Message us any time; we answer.
Not sure which bedroom setup suits your group, or whether the dates you want are still open for a longer family gathering? Send us a message and we will help you work it out before you book.
WHAT YOUR WEEKEND LOOKS LIKE
Everyone lands at different hours and lets themselves in. Saturday morning the coffee is going before the first person is properly awake, and there are ten seats at the table so breakfast is one sitting, not three. You drive fifteen minutes to campus, do the thing you came for, and come back. Someone lights the fire pit. The kids are in the yard with the dog until it gets dark. Later the adults drift downstairs to the speakeasy and stay up too late, and nobody has to drive anywhere or say goodnight in a parking lot.
That is the whole point of renting a house instead of rooms.
A FEW HONEST NOTES
The primary bathroom is the one room we have not remodelled yet. It is clean and completely functional — it is just not the showpiece the rest of the house is, and we would rather you knew going in. The lower level runs cool, as covered above. This is a quiet residential street on the prairie, not a downtown block, so plan on driving into the city.
Fall dates go early here, especially the campus weekends. If yours are on the calendar, take them.
Cancellation Policy: We follow the cancellation policy in place at the time you booked, as shown in your confirmation. If there is any chance you may need to cancel, we recommend travel insurance at checkout. Refunds are not provided outside the booked policy for weather, illness, or travel disruptions.
