Thank you for the nice review. The guards were never that strict. There's been some incidents with people entering the grounds to use the amenities so the HOA has instructed to the guards to be more diligent in their review of people entering the community. While that is good, it can also be frustrating if a guest forgets to print the access pass. I'll review the new rules to see if I can email the guards direct to avoid this scenario for future tenants. Thank you for the heads up. Oh.. and the elevator -- my nemesis. It usually works. But it does take a siesta from time to time.

We are terribly sorry to hear that you and your guest were bitten and thank you for bringing it to our attention. As a result, we immediately sent someone into the unit to thoroughly examine the mattresses and beds. There are no bed bugs in the condo. Bed bugs leave telltale signs when they have infested a place. And there was no evidence in the condo of infestation. Nevertheless, we went through with a thorough extermination just to be sure. I bring my two children ages 2 and 4 and my wife to the condo frequently so we too want to make sure that all beds and bedding are clean. Unfortunately, at certain times of the year and in certain areas, there can be sand fleas on some of the beaches. My only assumption is that you unfortunately obtained the bites during a different activity. The professional exterminator could not find any evidence in our condo of anything that would have caused bites to you and your guests. I have an official certificate for anyone that would like to see it. I am very sorry for the experience. We strive to provide a great vacation spot for all of our guests.

Thank you for all of the kind words and nice detailed review. I'll respond to the cons for others. In short, I agree. The big fans have been giving me trouble and finding a qualified electrician has been a challenge. There is no AC, nor is that represented. It isn't needed other than maybe 2 week per year. The store bought thermostat does show AC as an option. I should put a label that reads "heater only." I do not include those outdated TV instructions in the email so they must have been printed in a drawer. Yes, the receiver went kaput on me. The TV is new and the speakers work fine meanwhile -- actually better than those old surround sound speakers. It's been an ongoing project to overhaul the entertainment system. The two BBQs not working is news to me. I will review that. The salt air eats them up. The patio is getting remodeled. They installed that nice slider on the north end to block the wind, but they still need to stucco and reinstall the porch lights. Yes the rooms other than the master do have the road going by -- like every condo along the coast. The bunk bed is more of an accommodation room bedroom/utility laundry room for kids although the bunks are sturdy up to 175lbs. This information is written in the property description on the website. The unheated hot tub can be an inconvenience without planning. The community is smaller than most. That means there isn't enough HOA revenue to keep the hot tub heated 24/7. The guest shower is also news. It is a new water heater so I think that I just need to turn up the temperature dial a bit. The border can be easy and it can be horrific -- especially on Sunday if you get a late start. There are apps that track the wait times. I always take the 2 out around east of TJ and go through Otay. Next time please text or call me -- I would've driven a BBQ down from San Clemente for you. :-)

Steven - Thank you for your 1 star review. We were immediately on top of the situation. Lucy came down and I gave her access to my back up keys. When that was unsuccessful, she called a locksmith. The toilet room in the master being closed and locked behind someone is definitely a new one for the record books. With regard to additional towels and sheets, you are correct, I do not allow full access to all of my back up linens. You are provided with linens and towels. Tenants are encouraged to bring extra if they'd like. The water heater is new and the largest one sold by Home Depot. Sometimes you need to let the water run for a bit to warm up. Move the handle to the left for warm. There are fans, a heater, but no AC for the few days each year that it might be wanted. If you need a breeze, open the balcony door and the front door and it flushes through. The bunk room is an accommodation room for sleeping two small people (kids) that also has a linen closet and washer/dryer. There are photos and multiple explanations on the website that make this very clear. I suspect you needed to read and review the listing more thoroughly. Lucy sent me videos after you left with the heater fan left blowing, all of the lights left on, trash strewn about, a hole in the patio stucco, etc if that helps other readers better understand this tenant who I decided to not publicly ridicule as a warning for other VRBO landlords.
