La Jolla is your perfect southern California vacation destination, as you'll have easy access to the beach while still being close to all the popular San Diego hot spots! This charming cottage will provide a home base for you and your family and has just about everything you'd need for a relaxing stay.

Leave your cares at home and wander around the beach, which is just a short walk from this home. Comb the shores for shells or just let the sound of the waves provide the soundtrack to your afternoon. For even more fun, head to the world class San Diego Zoo or check out Sea World (both about 20 minutes away from the home). If you just plan on sticking around nearby, downtown La Jolla is a 15 minute walk.

The home has been recently remodeled, and the stylish living room provides a comfortable sofa and a TV complete with cable and a DVD player. You'll also have WiFi here, so staying in touch with work or friends back home will not be a problem.

The simple kitchen has all the necessities to create delicious breakfasts or gourmet dinners. The bedroom is nicely furnished with a queen sized bed. In the mornings, enjoy a cup of coffee out on the sunny brick patio.

This adorable beach cottage is perfect for a small family or a couple looking for a unique vacation spot. One block from one of the world's most beautiful beaches! What else could anyone want? Nice, simple place. If I could add anything, it might be a little washable rug on the floor. The directions should make it clear that you have to enter through an alleyway in the back--I'm sure they'll fix that minor glitch.

Ant problem

The location of the property is amazing. Just steps away from the most beautiful beach. Food and coffee shops close by as well. The only problem was the cleanliness, it felt dirty and there is a big ant problem. The bed is where all the ants like to live. We were swatting ants off the bed the whole trip. Other than that it was a good location

Great & Cozy

Enjoyed property very much, its super peaceful and steps away from the beach. Only have one suggestion the plants frawns had fallen down and it was blocking pathway and a bit noisy to walk on when trying to get in and out of cottage. Neighbor was bit annoyed with us walking through because of the stepping on the plant order to get around. Other than the cottage was quite cozy comfortable and spacious for 2.

The property was nice a quiet, and close to the beach that we were able to walk back and forth. It was a quaint little place we had a great time. Loved that we could buy groceries and cook in the kitchen. The only draw back was that there were little black sugar ants in the place.

The cottage is cozy, but it is not well maintained. There are traces of mold on the ceiling and windows. The wooden frames are weathered. Weeds are growing in the courtyard, the upholstery of the chairs is dirty. The cottage was only superficially cleaned. There was thick dust under the furniture and a tuft of black hair under the shower curtain in the bathroom. A complaint I made about a broken hairdryer was not answered. The cottage is beautifully situated, just two streets from the sea. It is cozy with an inner courtyard where you can have breakfast, barbecue and relax. The location is quiet, you can only hear the seagulls.

Not what we expected…

The VRBO listing did NOT disclose that this “cottage” was actually a remodeled garage on the same property as the owner… the check in instructions were very vague. It took us 45 minutes to figure out that we needed to go to the back alley to enter the property. Even after calling the rental company for help on how to find the house, the color of the front door was not the same as pictured on the listing and the rental company had the wrong color as well. Upon arriving, ants were discovered in the living room and kitchen along with a beetle. After finding multiple bugs, my boyfriend and I looked over the whole inside and found an ant trap full of dead ants inside the kitchen cabinet which contained CLEAN dishes. I was extremely disappointed. The rental company did refund half the cleaning fee which I do appreciate. However, I have never been to a VRBO so inaccurate from what I saw online. The rest of the house was clean enough, but it looks like it hadn’t been truly deep cleaned in a long time. Loved the location but wish the listing was more clear that this house is not necessarily private as the owners live a couple steps away in the main house.

Great location and affordable

This was perfect for what I needed as I was visiting family. I wasn't there very much, but it was a great respite for me when I walked in the door. Only suggestion is to get a stronger shower head. Having available parking spot and location to beach was just wonderful. Would stay here again.

Quaint

It was a nice getaway spot. Small cottage behind the main house. Was clean and definitely near a lot of things. The beach was my main focus so it was really nice to be just 2 minute's away. But its also a 20 minute walk from coffee shops and restaurants.

Blissful

Perfect spot for a lazy week of relacation and rejuvenation. The sound of the surf gently played through the open windows bringing that vital ocean sent with it. A quick walk to Windansea Beach and in easy reach of restaurants and shopping. Perfect place for two.

The worst!

We got there and there was a tag on the door. The gas had been shut off. We called and called and called. Nobody ever got back to us. We had a business dinner and couldn’t shower. We had to find a hotel and we were very late. We better get our money back!

Don't stay here.

There was no way of contacting the property manager. It had basically no heat and the neighbor is rude and complains about "noise," which consited of coughing too loudly.

Escaping the snow of Utah

Needed a handful of days to escape Utah’s grasp on winter. This cottage was perfect for our needs. Within walking distance to the ocean and La Jolla restaurants. Thanks for excellent communications as well.

Christmas stay in San Diego Cottage

The Cottage is charming and very clean. It was rainy so it was quite chilly inside. There were extra blankets to help that but space heaters were not working first night because a fuse blew out one side of electricity in the Cottage. It would help to tell visitors about where to plug in both space heaters at the same time. We feel we should not have had to try to find the fuse box ourselves in the dark. We dealt with it Saturday night but someone should have come over right away on Sunday morning when we texted the problem. That was a real inconvenience.

Great little cottage within walking distance of the beach. Really clean and comfortable. No air-conditioning and limited air circulation with location of windows but still comfortable. Only things I would flag are that the private patio wasn't really useable. It seemed to be storage for the main house which is right next to the cottage. And if you are a large person, the bathroom may be too small for comfort. For reference my son is 6'2" / 300 lbs and would not have fit. But would definitely would stay there again if in La Jolla!

Second time using VRBO

Great location. Small cottage could have used some upgrades. Especially the mattress. Cleaning up the patio. Drainage of bathroom sink very poor. I was brought new items when I mentioned them to the property manager.

Great Location but. . .

Access to the ocean is just unbeatable here. Vacasa seems well organized and efficient. But…killed a few ants in the kitchen everyday, smallest bathroom on the planet, bathroom is located on the opposite site of the tiny space from the bedroom, the bed is inadequate for two and the covers don’t fit the bed. Could only get Netflix on the TV, parking is in a very narrow one way alley (rent a small car), and the room was hot when the temp hit 70. If you can afford it, try something else.

Great location

Our favorite spot in San Diego - close to the sophistication of La Jolla or the bars and beaches of Pacific Beach. But in a quiet neighborhood with accessibility to both places and its own very cool beachfront just a block away. Simple, quiet and unassuming - this provides a great home-base for someone wanting to be out and about most of the time. No frills, but none needed for our trip. I would advise a compact car if you are renting as the parking spot for the place would make it difficult for a larger car coming and going.

Property description changed

Great location, but….. the property needs some work and maintenance. Was once the garage of the main house, which is also a rental, so do not expect a quite place. When we booked, the description included a fold out couch. The unit has a new couch, but no longer a fold out. No one informed us of the change ahead of time, makes it hard when traveling with your child. The bathroom is exceptionally small.

Big Disappointment

I made the mistake of arriving after dark and there is absolutely NO SIGNAGE for the property or the parking space. It would have been a very simple fix for them to put a 1/2 sign on the front and back white vinyl gate as well as the parking spot. All of the exterior lighting was broken as well so we had to drive down an alley and walk in a dark yard only to fumble around with the key code in the dark! The instructions did not say that the knob on the lock box had to be turned after entering the pass code. Unfortunately our stay did not improve from there because this property has not been maintained. The pull out sofa literally broke on our 3rd day there and I got to know the handyman quite well during our stay. We ended up having to use an air mattress for the rest of our stay. The owner of this property is not making needed repairs and is doing everything on the CHEAP. For example instead of replacing a broken window pane they just put tape over it. And during a global pandemic there was not even a simple Kleenex box provided in the property! The owner is just milking the property location for all they can make and is not interested in providing a safe and quality stay!
