Formal Complaint – VRBO Rental, BarcelonaWe booked a two-night stay in Barcelona for four adults, including my 80-year-old mother. Upon arrival, access to the property was difficult and required retrieving keys from a lockbox on a separate street, which felt insecure.The unit was not properly prepared. Only two towels were provided, with no additional linens available. The washer and dryer were full and in use, requiring us to complete two hours of laundry to access essentials. Floors were wet, dishes were dirty, the freezer was unusable, the kitchen bin was broken, no bathroom garbage (required for females) and only one set of keys was provided.The most serious issue occurred overnight. Beginning at approximately 11:30 PM and continuing multiple times until 3:00 AM, there was aggressive banging on the building entrance and repeated buzzing of our unit. Video footage showed two individuals attempting to gain access through our unit. We felt unsafe and did not respond.To myself, two daughters and my elderly mother, this situation caused significant distress. We contacted VRBO at 3:00 AM, but no resolution was provided. We vacated the property the following morning after approximately 18 hours and secured alternative accommodation at our own expense.The property was not provided in safe or habitable condition. We are seeking a refund and compensation. To date, no response from VRBO or the host. DO NOT RENT THIS SPACE!

Arrived with my husband and 3 children at 11pm. Street was so DIRTY. My husband had to go the next street over to get the key leaving me, our luggage and children alone. It felt incredibly unsafe. There were ZERO woman or children on the street. Only men. One man stopped and started telling me to “watch everything” over and over again. Once inside the main entrance we were unable to open the door to the room for about 10 minutes because the door was sticking. AND the light kept shutting off on us. The room itself wasn’t terrible. But everything leading up to it put me in a panic. The next day we woke up to leave and the streets had all been cleaned up and felt a lot safer. Had we arrived during daylight we probably would have felt a lot better about our stay. If traveling with littles or intend to get there late at night I’d probably say skip this one.

Left after the first night. After our first night, we were woken up by a man banging on the bedroom window and yelling inside the apartment. We did not feel safe at all in the apartment and left.
