This house was beautifully located and could be an exceptional house. Upon arrival the downstairs area was a little cool but upstairs was uncomfortably warm. We gave it overnight to see if it would cool down but alas it did not. We contacted the homeowners and were assured that a servicemen would arrive. The service man worked on the units but was unable to make the repairs. The owner was again contacted as we were with elderly people and a cancer patient. The owner sent the serviceman back and he tried to fix it.. saying that it is in need of extensive repair. We were forced to open windows and doors for air flow on all levels of the floor.. needless to say nights were beyond rough. Railings to deck stairs are rickety and if someone were to lean against would probably fall. Remotes to tvs and ceiling fans and lights were a mess.. several corroded. The first night fire alarms chirped all night … needed new batteries.. one smoke detector was hidden in a hallway drawer so a seek and find mission was underway to locate it. Owners were alerted and replaced all batteries. It is a shame because it’s a cute house with much potential but is in need of maintenance. I’m closing the ocean kayak that my husband wanted to enjoy was non existent. Needless to say we will never rent this property again.

Property poorly maintained. Outside railings out of moorings. Floor boards popping up . Dangerous! Pictures misleading and not up to date. Barely sat 6 at table. No dining for 10 as listed. Linen package was of VERY poor quality. Had to go buy our own towels. Previous renters linen stayed on front porch all week. All kitchen utensils and pans were soiled. No lids for the pans or the 1 small pot provided. Owners were responsive by email n text but were not helpful to rectify situations during our stay. AC leaking into bedroom large amounts. Moldy vents and ceilings.View and location only positive of stay.

Let me first say that the location and view of the beach is awesome. But the house needs some updating and maintenance. The first night that we arrived (after we paid extra for linens), the wrong linens were delivered. We contacted the owner, who was rude and stated we could go to Walmart and go get linens if we needed them. We slept the first night on clearly unwashed comforters with no linens. The next day the linens were delivered and the owner stated he would refund us the cost of the linens due to the inconvenience. I have contacted them for a week now and they are now refusing to issue a refund. The deck has boards that have popped up creating a trip hazard as well as deck handrails that are coming off. The house could really use a cleaning. The curtains and shower liners were very dirty. The kitchen is not well stocked and doesn’t have a pan or knives that are actually usable. The dishwasher is literally falling forward out of the cabinets, The faucets are loose. There is no garbage disposal. The fenced in area under the house was full of trash and rotting ears of corn and broken boogie boards. The sewer pipe is leaking under the house into the outdoor shower stall. The whole front yard is overgrown. The upstairs bedroom has a 2 inch difference in the doorway and floor which caused many family members to trip. There was not a single roll of toilet paper in the house, just two empty. A welcome letter or some kind of list of area attractions would also have been nice.

Check in was simple and the communication was great. Great location. If you are planning on doing some cooking you may need to bring some pots they went from a bunch of saucers to one BIG POT.

Very Dirty, but Great Ocean View

Location & views were amazing, communication was good, but we showed up to a filthy house. I contacted the host immediately. There was trash laying around, hair and toothpaste on the bathroom sinks and dirty bathtubs. dirty deodorant laying on the floor, and also a dirty bathing suit laying outside. food crumbs all over the table and counters. And the floors were filthy. I contacted the host, and they offered a refund us 250 or to come clean. I said to come clean, I should have taken the money, but thought 250 was a joke. We had already started cleaning by the time they showed up, so most of the nasty stuff was gone. So really all they had to do was sweep the floors and wipe down a few things. The host did apologize, but it made are vacation start out with a very sour taste in or mouths. and we were very disappointed. And if we had not driven a long way or had a beautiful view of the ocean, we would have left immediately. I would like to say I would stay again, But I will not be.

Hovey House was GREAT. My family had not had a vacation in years and this week was perfect. We caught fish, kids done the educational tour of the Wright's Brothers Memorial and enjoyed the local go-carts. Host was very involved and professional. Will stay there again.

Property was beautiful, right on the beach. Hottub on the deck overlooking the beach. Owner of Property was rude. Hottub was not hot. House was dirty. Dirty dishes in the cupboard. Dog hair all over beds and pillows.

Oceanfront Oasis

This was our second year staying at this house and it really was an oceanfront oasis. Everything was clean and inviting as we walked in and ocean view and access is excellent. The owners were very accommodating and easy to reach.

OBX

Not very clean-some things need replaced - they are old, broken or dirty. (Vents, underneath bed, wood looked moldy in one bathroom, dirt/trash disgusting under dishwasher (yuck)… comforters dirty stinky(we used our own) Places in the home could be cleaned better. Repairs are half/ass and look it… cheap Air didn’t work correctly at first and we reported it and ask for fans. The temp in the home got to 90- owners said there is a Walmart if we wanted fans.. not very accommodating…We had elderly people with us with COPD… The air finally got fixed..

Spectacular View!!

The best ocean views I've seen. Liked the enclosed area for my dog. We are now making him a sand box for home as a potty area. He could run out on the decks and go downstairs to his potty area without fears that he will get away. It was nice to have extra bathrooms to accommodate my family.

House and location was perfect!

We loved the house and the location was so perfect! Being able to bring our dogs and have a fenced in area beneath the house to keep our fur babies safe was a big plus. A couple things that we had trouble with the living room TV and would like to have more deck chairs for the top deck to enjoy the beach views. We are planning to schedule again next year around September!

Location, location, location!

This property had the best view we've ever had at OBX, sweeping vistas of the ocean from the decks and living areas. In addition the beach was not crowded at all because there's no public access nearby. There were 8 of us, which I would suggest be the max. The table seats 6 with 3 additional seats at the island. Ignore reviews from previous years because the renovations seem to have addressed the problems.

Graduation week

I took my daughter and nephew to the outer banks for a graduation gift. The weather was rainy but the stay was amazing. Right on the beach and close to great restaurants. We took our 2 dogs as well and it was a great vacation for everyone.

Location Location Location

Fantastic location both for beach access and driving to and from area restaurants and shops. You set up your beach gear in the morning and can go back and forth just over the dunes to this beachfront home all day long. Newer furnishings and appliances, beautiful oceanfront views and the convenient location made for a great vacation with friends.

Great Oceanfront Property

We loved our stay in your home! It had very nice views from all rooms. We also enjoyed the fenced in area under deck. It was great with our dogs! Property owner very responsive to all needs and very friendly! We will definitely stay again!

Hurricane Ian ruined our trip

We’ve stayed here before and were looking forward to another vacation here, but hurricane Ian had other plans. Caused our plans to be canceled due to damage at the house. Nobody’s fault but Mother Nature! Fortunately the homeowners were communicating with us often, letting us know what was happening, and messaged to cancel as soon as it was apparent the house was unusable. We got a full refund quickly and i was able to get another location on another beach pretty quick so we only lost a day. I’m sorry things worked out the way they did but these things happen!

You DON’T get what you pay for!

Well, let me begin by saying that the only good thing about this house is it’s location! Upon arriving the owner/manager told us that she’d give us a code to get in… an hour and a half later while sitting out in the heat she tells us the door is unlocked! The owner’s excuse was she was flying and unable to reach us ! Wouldn’t a responsible person, who travels often I’m told, plan ahead and let the guests know codes beforehand 🤷‍♀️ If tables were turned and we were an hour and a half late leaving… we’d be charged! The carpets and tile floors are hideous! We had to dust night stands etc ourselves! Two “bedrooms “ have no closets 🤷‍♀️ If you plan to eat in the house bring your own dishes etc. There are 2 glasses, 1 wine glass and a few coffee cups! There’s not a complete set of silverware and the pans are so awful even bacon sticks to them! In one downstairs bathroom there is terribly moldy vent ! So in this case you DON’T get what you pay for!!!
