4 months in paradise

I spent 4 months at this hotel. A very special thank you to the staff there with a special mention to Lilianna at the front desk and Miguel, the night manager. Both went out of their way to help me over the 4 months. The Acanto is in the absolute perfect location, steps away from 5th avenue where all the action is and a short walk to a beautiful beach. The only negative was the kitchen was not particularly well equipped. The description said there would be a toaster and kettle and I ended up buying a kettle and they located a toaster for me. I ended up purchasing quite a few items for the kitchen which I left behind such as glasses, plates, frying pan, pot plus various other items. However that was really the only blip. The location, staff and service was absolutely terrific!

Five weeks at the Acanto

Location is great. Can be noisy on some nights. The rooms could use a maintenance tuneup. A better quality bbq would have been great. The complimentary breakfast was good and the staff that managed it were great. The listing accuracy 4 star is only because the pool is not usable. It is cold and barely gets any sun. Miguel is the best! Always there if we needed anything and super friendly with a smile on his face.

Overall our stay was very good, we would stay again. Pros: location, it's close to 5th avenue and lots of shops and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the courtyard was beautiful with tons of plants and trees. The pool was small but hardly anyone else used it. The breakfast was well stocked with juice, coffee, pastries, hard boiled eggs, ham and cheese. The rooftop patio was a nice perk. It's only a few blocks from the beach although it can be tricky to find a spot not already filled with chairs from resorts. We felt very safe there. Cons: the unit could get quite loud at night with the live music at the restaurants next door. Our unit was poorly stocked with no fry pan, very few dishes (only 2 forks) and only small bottled waters to drink/cook with. There are LOTS of stairs, our unit was on the 4th floor. The stairs leading to the rooftop patio were super sketchy and dangerous with no lighting or railing. The BBQ was unusable (missing knobs, no starter). The pictures in the listing showed twin beds which was not accurate (unit has king and queen beds). The listing indicated use of a washer and dryer which was also inaccurate.

The hotel was lovely, staff were very friendly and helpful and the apartments were perfect.

I would definitely recommend Acanto. The staff were very friendly and always on hand for help and advice. The rooms were very well appointed, spacious, clean and tidy. Even though we were in the heart of Playa del Carmen, the apartments were surprisingly quiet. Finally, a special mention to Lester who was responsible for organising tours and activities - he was very knowledgeable and helped us save lots of time (and money) brilliant.
