We had quite the fiasco with this one. However, VRBO made it right in the long run. This is someone’s home- the BnB is in his basement. Upon check in, it was so well stocked! We were seeing what we still needed to go buy for the stay, we tried to open a cabinet and broke a child lock. He overreacted and kicked us out over it. Said he was afraid for his safety. Ridiculous. We offered to pay for it, he didn’t talk to us directly- he called Vrbo. Two hours later, we spoke with VRBO and they filled us in. I texted him and he proceeded to tell us to get out. We luckily found a hotel to stay in, or else we’d have been out of luck. Again, VRBO made it right with us and will continue to use the program. Will never recommend this owner, though.

This review is misleading and omits key facts. The guest forcibly opened a locked cabinet clearly marked as off-limits and intended for owner use only. This was not a child lock—it was a reinforced lock with signage and a contact sensor for security. The cabinet was tampered with, and property was damaged.
At no point did the guest take full accountability. Instead, they downplayed a serious violation, which required me to remove them from the property to protect my home. Their offer to pay came after the damage and was not followed through.
What they call an “overreaction” resulted in thousands of dollars in losses for me and hours spent dealing with platform support. I take guest conduct seriously and expect others to respect basic boundaries and rules.
