Studio with a view: 2025 review

We really had a wonderful time on San Juan Island at the cottage. It is idealistic and restorative all the same. If you are thinking about booking, our vote is go for it!

Lovely San Juan getaway

This was a beautiful property for our Thanksgiving getaway. The cottage is small, but comfortable. Amazing views to the water through the Madrona trees. Truly, it was just right.

Nice retreat!

Overall the cabin was good. Some of the things that were inconvenient was that the window directly behind the bed was open and not private. Since there was no head board it felt exposed. We had to cover it ourselves with butcher paper. The TV is a monitor and was right next to the bed making it difficult to watch. Lastly, the Internet was very weak and it made it difficult to stream anything. With that being said it was a nice getaway.

Cozy and great location

We loved our long weekend here. This studio is cozy and charming. Very clean and comfortable. We spent our days out exploring but came back in the evenings and sat in the chairs overlooking the cove. Beautiful view. The owner was on-site in the house next door and replaced the coffee pot that a lot of reviews mentioned. Working coffee pot now! Very friendly owner but not intrusive.

Quaint with a spectacular view.

My husband and I stayed three days. The property is exactly how it is represented in pictures. We loved it. It is an artist studio converted into a cottage. It had everything we needed in the kitchen. We liked being away from town. It was so quiet and peaceful. Sitting on the lounge chairs staring at the ocean was more relaxing than words can convey.

Beautiful and Romantic

Beautiful and romantic cottage with incredible views. Great place to enjoy coffee with a view. Unique, fun and memorable. A few items need attention such as new coffee maker, a new hair dryer. Overall, a great romantic getaway,

Perfect view and location

This place is amazing! The location and view would be hard to beat. The space was geat for the two of us and it was very comfortable. Our stay was wonderful and I really wish I was still sitting out by the water watching the boats and seals.

Beautiful and peaceful setting!

Beautiful setting! The studio was cute and cozy and almost perfect for our 20th anniversary trip. The view is incredible and easy to enjoy from inside the studio or from the chairs overlooking the bluff. The full front wall of windows, and matching sunburst window behind the window are quite a focal point, but also the reason that I can't give this a full 5 stars. There were no curtains for the front and back windows of the main room. This means that sometime after 4 am when the sun rises the studio fills with sunlight. Had I known I would have brought sheets or something to try and block some of the sun. Sleep past 5am was challenging given the brightness of the light. The lack of curtains also led to a lack of privacy. We knew before going that this was a shared property with a main house just behind, so we expected there to be other people around. However, with the lack of window coverings we had no way to create privacy within that close setting. We had someone weeding just behind the studio one afternoon with a clear view in the back window. We also had a repair person working behind the studio and then come up on our porch and knock on our door to check in with us. With no front curtains and the bed right there...thankfully it wasn't more awkward than it was. Even with the lack of curtains and privacy and the early morning light, we still really enjoyed the studio. The kitchen was well set up, we enjoyed the TV and fun movie collection, and the convenient location was perfect. We would stay again as long as we brought curtains with us.

Lovely Stay

We had a lovely time! The location could not have been better for us. The view was amazing! Some people have complained about the planes, but they were not bothersome to us at all. I would recommend this place and would stay here again. Thank you for sharing this cottage with us!

Great unit in a perfect location

The unit had everything you would need. It was quiet and peaceful and the ocean/bay view stole the show. The location was ideal for getting to any part of the island and for runs into town for groceries or restaurants. We had a problem with a horrible stench coming up from the kitchen sink drain. We texted the numbers we had on hand for the unit and they responded very quickly and corrected the problem.

Great view with average house

The location is stunning. However it is very close to a busy airport and there is a lot of airplane noise. The house itself is very average. Could use better outdoor furniture, clean windows, and non industrial grade bath soap. The toaster didn’t work and the corkscrew was broken. Bed is comfortable and outdoor area is very pleasant except for the noise and furniture.

Great Stay

Fabulous location and view. Beautiful property. Cottage is lovely for a cozy, romantic and chill weekend. This is a studio so for those looking to spend quality time it is great. The cottage shares the lot with another home but there is good separation for privacy.. We would stay here again. Great stay.

Madrona Cottage

Fantastic location out of busy Friday Harbor right in the water with lots of wildlife. It was a great location for morning runs followed by a quick drive to the beach or into town. Would certainly recommend to others or revisit.

Cozy cottage, Serene setting

Enjoyed our week here, even the 2 cool and rainy mornings. The stove kept us comfy, the shower and hot water were good. The WiFi and cell services were good. Views from the cottage and the chairs by the water were beautiful. We did see several seals and lots of birds, including 3 great herons. Directions and and contacts with the owner were very good. Our favorite things, San Juan Bakery, Mayas Whale Watching, Lime Kiln walks, Roche Harbor sculpture garden and British Camp. Would love to come back

Lovely Little Cabin

What a beautiful place to sit and stare at the water! We sat in those chairs and watched the full moon rise and eagles fly overhead. Great location for biking into town and various bike tours around the island. Not a lot of room for bikes inside, but when the weather is clear they can be left on the porch without worry. Our one suggestion is for the owners to get a new coffee pot--it took about 2 hours to brew a single pot (we got impatient and boiled water on the stove instead). Bring your own: coffee, sugar, shampoo, extra bath towel Pleasant surprise: 2 XL bathrobes for us to use

Small but beautiful

We’ve stayed at Madrona Cottage twice and really love the place. House is small but cozy and has great light. The trees and bluff are nice outdoor space. And Thomas was very responsive. We’ll definitely be back.

Quaint cottage.

Adorable cottage in a lovely bay. Peaceful, private and cozy. The location is perfect for enjoying Friday Harbor and exploring the island. We enjoyed watching deer, eagles, a river otter and a harbor seal from the deck. I will visit again when I get the chance.

Beautiful and Peaceful Cabin

This is a really beautiful little cabin on an inlet bay. The cabin is right outside of Friday Harbor about a 5 minute drive and truly a peaceful place to stay.

Lovely Property

This was the perfect spot for a getaway. The view was amazing. It’s definitely only meant for two people, but we were comfortable. I would stay again. It is pretty close to the next house over, but no one was there so we felt it was very private.

Tranquil Getaway

We enjoyed this unique cottage nestled in a Madrona grove overlooking a beautiful cove. We loved the solitude in between our outings around the Island. Bring a couple blankets for the outdoors to put on the chairs and over your laps. We appreciated the recommended sites and eateries!

Quaint and Quiet

We enjoyed the quaintness and the quiet of this cottage. The view was absolutely beautiful! We enjoyed our late night sitting at the edge watching the water, the stars, and the full moon rising to the sound of frogs and owls! Awesome!!
