Eco-Luxury Paradise with Amazing Views & Pool

Welcome to Dove Cottage. This is St. John's first eco-luxury vacation rental. I re-designed the house to maximize the views and comfort while ensuring harmony with the environment. Around every corner is an incredible view and a welcoming daybed or chaise to curl up on with a book or a friend.

The north part of the house has a screen porch on the top floor- attached to the master bedroom- and overlooks the outdoor living room and pool area with views of the passing boats on the Sir Francis Drake channel and Tortola and Jost Van Dyke. The south side of the house also has a huge porch, as well as a garden with hammock, and views toward Coral Bay, the Caribbean sea and St. Croix.

I have lived here on and off for the past few years and have had a blast enjoying the house with my friends and family, but now it is time to share this special place with others. At Dove Cottage you are just minutes from amazing beaches and the town of Coral Bay, yet totally private and secluded to have fun and relax on your holiday. Enjoy!

Although we are happy to welcome groups of adults and have had many happy customers, the home is ideal for one couple or a couple with kids due to the attached bedrooms upstairs (NOT suited for 4 adults.) Feel free to contact us to better understand the layout if you are considering booking with more than 2 guests. Please note this eco cottage does not have AC, but is equipped with ceiling fans and standing fans for your comfort.

Loved our time at Dove Cottage. Views of France’s Drake Passage and Tortola from the lovely pool and patio and Round Bay from the comfortable seating on the covered front porch. The home had all the amenities anyone could want and we would highly recommend staying here.

Just beautiful

The property is just beautiful. Pictures don’t even do it justice. We had our honeymoon and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Although it is farther out on the east end it was worth the drive for the peace and tranquility. We recommend it to everyone looking for solitude and beauty.

Simply wonderful!

Our family of five (kids ages 3, 11 and 12) loved our time at Dove Cottage. The setting is magical, and the house is very comfortable. We can’t wait to go back! Jared and Keri were wonderful in helping us navigate activities, car rental, groceries, etc. and I was very thankful we had them as a resource. We could not have asked for a better place to enjoy some family time and explore all that St. John has to offer.

Gorgeous Home

This home was absolutely stunning!! Gorgeous in every single way and made us feel like we were at home. Only thing I would suggest is maybe air conditioning in a bedroom or two. Otherwise everything was great! Even had a couple of visitors our last night there (donkeys). I highly recommend this home and we will be back!

Many of our guests specifically choose to stay in this villa given the open design with floor to ceiling screens, allowing guests to enjoy the tropical trade winds, and natural beauty of island living. Perfection

I travel with my husband and kids all over the world. Dove Cottage was the most spectacular place we have ever stayed. Keri and Jared took such wonderful care of us, connecting us with terrific fishing guides, kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling adventures. We intended to build in Costa Rica, but after this experience, we will instead focus on the magical East End of St. John.

Quiet with a fantastic pool and beautiful views

Lovely property, the outdoor pool was our favorite part. The views from the pool and pool deck were phenomenal. It was on the east end so quiet which we liked but definitely a drive to get anywhere. Spiral staircase was super cool looking but not practical, would be difficult for older people or littler kids. Probably the only thing we would have liked more was having air conditioning.

Relaxing, beautiful property in St. John - worth the drive!

This was our first visit to St. John, and we could not have been happier with our choice of this property. Communication with the hosts was outstanding, the home has great amenities and even greater views and charm. Don't be scared off by the East End location - yes, it is a bit longer drive (though everyone has a drive in St. John), but the northside beaches are less than 30 min away, Cruz Bay restaurants are about 35-40 min away, and Coral Bay is less than a 15 minute drive. The trade-off is unmatched views of Tortola and North Haulover bay to the north and Hansen Bay to the south. (We even snorkeled at Hansen Bay/Pelican Rock and saw some nice reefs, giant turtles, rays, etc.). Although there is no A/C, the hosts provide plenty of fans and natural ventilation and we were comfortable at night even in early June. We would definitely return!

Staying at Dove cottage was an amazing experience that I can't wait to do again. We have stayed in many different homes and this one had it all. Open air concept, views , comfortable interior, outdoor shower! Kitchen was well equipped, pool was a nice way to relax in the afternoon and we have a 5 year old that lived it too! No air conditioning, but I didn't mind at all. Make sure to star gaze at night, I've never seen a sky so clear. No bugs either :) well, a few spiders, and lizards lol but no harm. I highly recommend spending a vacation here. **this home is on the east end and away from Cruz Bay quite a bit. So if you are looking for a bunch of shopping or stores near by, this would be a tough but beautiful stay! Look forward to getting back next year.

Perfect Vacation Home...Peaceful and Relaxing!

We loved everything about our vacation and the relaxation and privacy of Dove Cottage was what made the vacation. Everything from the beauty of the scenery to perfectly decorated home, and everything you would need meet in the home. We loved relaxing on the porch by the pool and then enjoying coffee and a book in the morning on the front porch. The kitchen had everything you would need to make a perfect meal. My husband woke up from a nap to have 4 goats visiting him which has made for a great story. If you are looking for peace and privacy but close to wonderful beaches and restaurants this is the house. The owner was wonderful to work with, so kind, helpful and quick to respond by email. The property manger was great and checked in with us but then just let us enjoy all of our time quietly. We will be back, I told my husband I would not leave unless he promised. Thank you for opening your home to us we loved everything about Dove Cottage.

Paradise found!

It’s hard to find words to describe our amazing week at Dove Cottage and Saint John. The house was beautiful, clean, and perfect for our family of four (kids ages 7 and 4). All the bedrooms are on the top floor and we enjoyed the evening breeze with the open floor plan and screened porch/windows (all of which can be closed off if preferred). The pool and property were beautiful. The location offers picturesque views from both the front and back of the house. Coral Bay is about a 15 minute drive with several restaurants and small grocery stores. Cruz Bay is about a 35 minute drive. We loved being on the east end of the island because it’s quiet and the views can’t be beat. Hansen Bay beach is a 5 minute drive and the beaches on the northwest part of the island (there are several and they are amazing) are an easy 25-30 minute drive. We snorkeled at every beach by just swimming a short distance from shore and throughout the week, saw stingray, sea turtles, squid and all kinds of fish. We also saw flamingos at salt pond beach. I would highly recommend Dove Cottage (Estate Hansen Bay) and Saint John for a spectacular beach vacation and amazing house, property, and pool. We definitely plan to be back and stay at this property again!

Wonderful Week

My family of four, two adults and two teenagers, just returned from a week at Dove Cottage. We loved the house, with it's stunning views from all directions. It had everything we needed and wanted for a quiet, relaxing break from the cold. We loved the pool and lounging on the numerous chairs that all took advantage of the view. The kitchen was perfect and we ate all of our meals outside, looking across the water at Tortola. On the days that we were out and about on the island, we were happy to return to this wonderful house. The house has some quirks, which didn't bother us, but are worth noting. There is no indoor shower (but we take enough indoor showers as it is). The shower is off the bathroom on the second floor, so technically it's an indoor/outdoor bathroom. The spiral staircase is narrow, so anyone with mobility issues would need to be aware. Overall, we loved the house; listening to the frogs singing in the night and the wind blowing through the upstairs were experiences we don't have at home. And, seriously, the views! Thank you for sharing your little slice of paradise with us.

Thanks for the great review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay. To help future guests understand, The upper level of the home has floor to ceiling screens on the North wall allowing both the view and the breeze in... This includes the shower. I can understand how one may consider that "outdoors" however the shower is under the same roof as the home and within the same (screened) walls. There is ALSO an outdoor shower near the pool.

Bliss!

This was our second trip to St John and we had looked around the island for the perfect location. Peace and solitude are very important to us and we found it at Dove Cottage! The pictures don't do it justice. The house sits high on a hill with spectacular views out both the front and back. It is very comfortable and clean and has everything you need, including great quality cooking tools. The bedrooms are upstairs, with a large master and two tiny singles. Great for a couple alone or with small children. The deck is huge with lots of seating options. We spent alot of time day and night, just drinking in the views. The only drawback was it rained daily so the cushions were always wet. The up side is there were lots of rainbows! One night we had very high winds which tore the screens on the upstairs porch. One call to the property manager in the morning and they were fixed when we returned in the afternoon. The owner, Aurora was also great to deal with and patiently answered all our questions. You definitely need a car. We loved it so much we already booked next year and can't wait to go back!

Dove Cottage Was Amazing

Dove Cottage is truly amazing. We have been to the Caribbean about a dozen times. The views from the cottage are unparalleled. The location is secluded, private, quiet, and away from distraction. We had never stayed at a property with a saltwater pool before and found it to be an unexpected treat - no chlorine smell, warm and comfortable, and the pool deck is unbelievable. The property is located on the East End of St John, which is a hefty drive from Cruz Bay and many of the most popular beaches. Coral Bay is closer, and does not have the same amenities but is convenient for a quick necessities run. This is not a bad thing - the location means you will have quiet seclusion without tourists thronging outside of your hotel. It also provides what we found to be the most amazing view on the island bar none - when you see Tortola from the pool deck, you will have difficulty topping it in future adventures. Truly mind blowing. Jared and the Unique Island Assets team are fantastic. The communication is easy and fluid, they make sure you are well informed, and will quickly address any questions or concerns. They do so without being intrusive - it was well done all around. We also found that our rental car agency and other services on the island were equally friendly and helpful. We would definitely return to Dove Cottage again, and have recommended it to some of our friends. If you have the privilege to stay here, you will not regret it.

Secluded mountaintop cottage with Outstanding views of Tortola

The cottage is perched into the side of a mountain with great views across the Sir Francis Drake channel to Tortola. The stainless Wolf stove and high end stainless full size double door refrigerator are an asset the the kitchen. The center island is convienent for meal preparation and the kitchen is well equipped with all pots pans, dish and glass sets that you will need. The house has beautiful arched doorways with pocket screens and windows, the furniture most comfortable with white slip covers, Shabby Chick painted chairs around an ample dining table, streamlined low voltage lighting was more than enough augmented with lamps, the screened in upstairs shower is on the front of the house. With a washbowl and toilet behind, the upstairs has 3 bedrooms, the main bedroom is very large with ample closet space open to a large screened in porch with outstanding views. There is a smaller bedroom on the front corner of the house and another behind it. The back porch has views looking back at the bay. The pool area had many large teak lounge chairs, a large flat sunning may, outdoor couch and chairs. The pool was pretty fabulous. I loved watching the goats come up to the pool. The Astro terf lawn is eternally green with a white picket fence. It was nice to have toilet paper, paper towels and a large supply of dish towels stocked in the kitchen. Although I have traveled extensively I have never been to the US Virgin Islands, this was our second wee, the first in St Croix where I believe the beaches are much better. I was disappointed in St John and believed it would be more breath taking and have those fabulous beaches I’d read about. The house has privacy but is a long drive to any activity and you certainly do not want to drive those roads at night with the goats and donkeys, the house has an awkward step up just before the refrigerator in the house and access to the upper floor is by a narrow circular staircase, or going outside and around the house and up the porch steps in the back of the house. All things considered, 82 degrees with a light breeze everyday beats the hell out of 10 degrees and snow at home in the north east.

We are sorry you were not impressed with the beaches on St John - it sounds like you unfortunately did not make it onto the North Shore beaches in the Virgin Islands National Park. Those beaches are pretty stunning and globally equal or exceeding almost anywhere in the world. Next time, just reach out to us and we will show you where to go. Magical

When you envision yourself spiriting away to a remote storybook tropical cottage with sweeping views in every direction; awakening to the wispy sounds of a windchime outside your bedroom window as the tradewinds blow over; getting into crisp linens and comfy beds (like you would find in any luxury hotel) at the end of a day of adventure; and blending up your own rum punches and painkillers right in your own high-end kitchen overlooking a perfect pool and outdoor living room set against the stunning backdrop of the Caribbean sea and Virgin Islands -- this is that place and more. It's pretty darn close to perfect. This cottage is on the far east side of the island (Check the March 2017 New York Times story about St. John, and read the section on the East End). It's away from the craziness of Cruz Bay, but close to the "famous" Skinny Legs and some wonderful snorkeling bays. It's also just around the corner from a floating bar, anchored in Hansen Bay (where we spotted a very large octopus, stingray and loads of tropical fish) and near a great hike up and down a mountain to Brown Bay (which we did with our 10 and 12 yo daughters and snorkel gear with relative ease). It's also near an eco-resort where the National Park Service holds a stargazing class every week (definitely recommend). While it is remote, it is also close enough to Cruz Bay and the North Shore beaches that it is not burdensome to go back and forth - in fact we loved the drive (did it 6 out of 7 days), every time spotting deer, donkeys, chickens, pigs, goats and cows along the way (not to mention the stops at amazing overlooks, food trucks and smoothie bars). Recommend renting a Jeep. No A/C in the cottage, but with the breezes, you don't need it (and I'm hot-natured). The second and third bedrooms (each with a twin) feel like little treehouses, and our daughters loved them. They are "spokes" off of the master - the perfect set up for our family of 4. Someone could also fit on the daybed downstairs for sure. We loved the indoor/outdoor shower. If you want the luxury of Caneel Bay (where I have stayed once before), but with ultimate privacy and your own kitchen, laundry, etc. - check this place out. I travel internationally as a part of my job, and have stayed in lots of places. This cottage is in my top 5 most enchanting "homes away from home." Whomever designed this place must be stylish, classy, fun-loving and throw fabulous parties...the house reflects that in spades. Enjoy!

Solitude & Serenity

If you need a break to unplug and breathe, this is the place. I already miss waking up every morning to birds chirping and the wind blowing. Great stay and communication from owner. Big thank you to Claire for welcoming us to the property when we arrived! She said the Dove Cottage is magical and she was right...

Picturesque Paradise

This property is even better in person! We arrived near sunset and the view took our breath away. You definitely need to have a Jeep to stay at this property but this would go for most properties on the island. We had the best stay here. It is a small drive into town, but worth it! We loved that the house is located in the quieter East End of the island. It was nice to feel like we didn’t have other neighbors too close by. We had an absolutely fabulous stay and can’t wait to visit again!

Charming cottage

This was our first trip to St. John. Such a great place to connect with nature. Loved waking up in the morning and hearing the goats that were wandering by for their daily stroll. Location of Dove Cottage was just what we were looking for. We were looking for a place that had views, a pool and privacy. This place had them all and so much more! Loved the outdoor shower! The house was well stocked and not with "well used" items like many other rentals we've stayed at, this includes all the towels too. We were also thankful for the cottage being supplied with shampoo, conditioner and body wash since we were without our luggage for a few days due to the airlines. Very well maintained home. If we are fortunate to be able to return to St. John someday we will definitely stay at Dove Cottage again!
