Poipu Beach Plantation Style Cottage

This custom designed Hawaiian plantation style cottage is located just steps from Poipu Beach Park and Brennecke’s beach on a quiet dead end street. It is the perfect vacation retreat. Hale Honu was just completed in September of 2014 and was designed to fit in with it’s historic neighborhood and the ancient Hawaiian Village that borders the backyard. Its location give a secluded feeling while being close to beautiful Poipu Beach. The cottage's plantation style is the perfect mix of old Hawaii while offering every modern luxury. Outside is a barbeque grilling area and a beautiful double garden shower accessible from either the guest bath or from outdoors. The open floor plan has a living room that opens up to the oversized covered lanai through expansive retractable glass doors. This allows the indoor and outdoor space to truly become one. Enjoy spending time on the spacious covered lanai, eating at the large dining table, relaxing in the conversation area or just lounging on the two chaises to watch the beautiful Kauai sunset. Ceiling fans keep the living areas breezy and cool. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas range, full size refrigerator, whisper quiet dishwasher, as well as, granite counters, open shelving, and is fully stocked for all cooking and baking needs. The entertainment system includes a wide screen TV with surround sound, apple TV, blue ray DVD , as well as speakers through out the living room and the lanai Wi-Fi is included throughout the house and lanai as well as TVs in both of the bedrooms. Upstairs the bedroom has a California King bed and a private bath with claw foot tub/shower along with a window AC unit. There is also a screened in lanai/sleeping porch that overlooks the Ancient Hawaiian Village which is perfect for an afternoon nap or early morning coffee. The downstairs bedroom also has a window AC unit and a Queen Bed with adjoining bathroom which has a glass enclosed shower and access to the outdoor double garden shower.

The house exceeded our expectations. The finishes and quality of the house are the nicest we have ever experienced in a rental property. The owners were quick to respond to messages and very friendly. We would absolutely recommend this to any family looking for a place in Poipu.

The house was spectacular and perfect and the hosts had provided everything we might need, including all provisions for a day at the beach. We enjoyed spending time on the lanai every day and really liked the glass doors that allowed an expansive indoor/outdoor living space. It was especially great when we spent a rainy morning in, enjoying the rain and playing games. The rain chains are beautiful. We were so grateful to share such a lovely space.

This place is a gem. We loved that it was well stocked with everything you need to go to the beach (wagon, toys, towels, chairs, snorkel gear, umbrella), and is a short 3-5 min walk from Poipu beach. We also enjoyed sitting on the lanai every night and our children loved to watch the roosters. The kitchen is also very well stocked with everything you need. We will definitely stay here again.

This house is perfectly located if you want to be at Poipu beach. The Lanai is outstanding. The kitchen is well equipped. The coffee pot could use an update. The furniture was comfortable both in and outside the house. The master shower was not user friendly. We all showered in the downstairs which was somewhat inconvenient. The host was exceptionally responsive to a minor house issue.

We loved our stay at this charming beach house! It was perfect for our family. The outside shower was fantastic. Love seeing all the chickens and their baby chicks in the backyard. The location is perfect and close to everything. The upstairs screened in balcony was a great place to watch the beautiful Kauai sunsets. We will definitely stay here again.

This place was clean and comfortable and great proximity to Poipu beach to see the turtles every day. Spent a lot of time on the lanai which was very private. Lots of roosters and chickens which you will find out are basically everywhere in Kauai and only added to the charm.

The location was perfect! Literally 3 minute walk to two beaches- boogie boards and snorkel gear provided. The house is beautiful, we especially enjoyed being able to open the huge glass doors to let the air breeze through the house. They thought of every detail. The outdoor shower is a nice touch. Lots of towels and beach towels. Washer and dryer both worked well. The key pad locks make it extremely convenient to head to the beach without worrying about the house key being stolen from our belongings while playing in the water. Feet wash stations at each door make it easy to keep the sand out of the house. Comfy couches and cute decor.I have a few minor things that future guests may want to note. The beds a very soft- which some people love!- but it left my body achy… The roosters are VERY loud in this location. Which may not be a problem for deep sleepers… we had to close the windows and turn the window A/C unit on, which was also very loud(maybe it needs to be serviced?) but the good thing was it drowned out the noise of the roosters! So it helped us sleep some.Overall this is an incredible house and location, fully equipped with everything you’ll need for an enjoyable stay.

2nd visit for us. This time we brought the mother in law and our niece. We had a great time and the home was a good home base for our adventures. Appreciate the added air conditioning in the bedrooms, it was hot for most of our stay. Appreciate the beach gear, coolers. Body boards and umbrellas the house has for use. I really appreciated Kevin helping us get the hot water turned back on, when the solar ran out of energy on a cloudy day.

Best location. Perfect Home

What a treat of a home to stay in! The location is superb, steps from Poipu and Brenneke. The home is also perfectly laid out with the best lanai and screened in porch upstairs. There is AC in both rooms but we never needed them in Dec as we just opened the windows (which all have intact screens!) to let the winds come in. The house is equipped with everything, especially in the garage - wagon, kids sand toys (be sure to look in the bins as we didn't see them and bought some!), chairs, umbrella, the best pop up tent, boogie boards, etc. Washer and dryer are wonderful and honestly the house is big and spacious. Outdoor shower was excellent and communication with owner was excellent. We tried to book for our next Christmas vacation but they were already booked since they are that popular )

We live in Alaska and have been vacationing in Hawaii for 30 years. We realized early on that Kauai was the ideal place for us to come and enjoy the sun and ocean… and Poipu quickly became our family's favorite spot. After owning a condo here for many years we finally were able to find a piece of property close to the beach to build our dream family getaway-retirement home.

We were fortunate to find a builder that could build in details that give the feel of an old Hawaiian Plantation Cottage> our lot is on a quiet dead end street and set back form the road. The property overlooks a Sacred Hawaiian Village and is very secluded feeling but still with views of the sunset.
