Downtown Suite! (Farmer's Suite)

Located in Downtown Friday Harbor! 2 Bedroom Full Bath and Kitchenette. 2 Queen Beds. Walking Distance to the Ferry.

The Farmer is one of 5 separate Suites to rent among the Acanthus House. The Farmer is a roomy 2 bedroom suite on the ground floor of the Acanthus building. This suite has a Queen bed in each bedroom, a full bath, gathering area and kitchenette. Many like to enjoy their morning coffee or afternoon beverage from the comfort of the communal front porch. A Smart TV and internet are available for guests to log-in to their preferred streaming services.

Guests will find that one block from Acanthus Suites will bring you into the heart of downtown Friday Harbor, offering many delicious restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, ice-cream shops and art galleries, all within walking distance. On Saturday mornings the local San Juan Island Farmer's Market is a 5 minute walk from the Acanthus Suites!

Any or all Acanthus Suites can be rented for different group sizes!

The Acanthus House is one of Friday Harbor's first important historic homes. Built in 1913, it was a wedding gift for a wealthy merchant's daughter. It has been beautifully restored. Located in historic downtown Friday Harbor; only 3 blocks from the ferry dock and Port of Friday Harbor and is an excellent option for those coming to explore the island and have a comfortable place to rest at night.

The Acanthus House does not have Air Conditioning.
The unit does not have laundry facilities.

The internet / Wi-fi at this house should be sufficient for streaming video, phone calls, remote work and video conferencing.

Hosts were very accommodating; we received extra blankets when requested and provided a place to store luggage for a couple hours. Our bedrooms were comfortable. My only criticism would be the sitting/living room area. The chairs are not comfortable.

Overall impression is what I expected. Large older home with a couple other rentals within. We had a wonderful time during our stay. The rental was a modest unit with dated furnishings and attributes.

The location is unbeatable! Everything is within walking distance. The bedrooms and bath are comfortable as well as clean. We would definitely stay here again. If you’re working remotely, the WiFi does not consistently support Zoom calls. However, the TMOBILE cell signal was excellent so using a phone as a hotspot works great.

Historic Charm and Exceptional Value

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Small and cozy with everything needed for a comfortable stay for up to 4 guests! The 2 bedrooms with queen beds had just enough space to settle into. The bathroom had all the basics, plus great water pressure. The galley kitchen in the center of the house adds a little history and character to the stay. And the dining/family room with the big glass window + the community front porch were great for relaxing/winding down and enjoying the island weather. Walking distance to pretty much everything in town.

Loved the location to town; not so much the creaky floors( beware if you’re downstairs-you’ll hear a pin drop). Door knobs also-loud. Bring earplugs and you’ll be fine. Well equipped and comfortable beds.

Intriguingly yesterday. Rooms were spacious, bathroom was equipped well, and the location is very good. Would have been nice for a few more accommodations such as more outlets, much much better furniture and even a mirror more than just one. Countable but definitely means updating.

Overall, good place to stay. Especially if two bedrooms are needed.PROS: great location, interesting/pretty property, very comfortable beds, easy check-in, quick response to requests (had to ask for a toaster)CONS: may be clean?...but excessive dust build up in some areas, less than comfortable pillows, cannot darken bedrooms, no drinking glasses (only plastic), smelly bath towels, no hanging bar in closet or a dresser in front bedroom.For 387 per night (after all the taxes and fees) I would expect there to at least be coffee/teas, creamer and such available for at least the morning after arrival.

Girls Weekend!

Reviewer Comments: Myself and 2 friends came for a quick girls weekend, this property was so close to town and such a great location to all the places we wanted to see! We visited great restaurants, did some chopping and browsing, the farmers market was amazing! I do only wish there was some more comfortable seating to lounge in the evenings while we had some snacks and chatted. Otherwise it was a charming older home and perfect place to stay and would definitely consider staying there again!

Great Location but....

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location is the best feature of this rental. is not suitable for anything except sleeping. The "livingroom/parlor/dining room" consists of two uncomfortable chairs, a wooden straight-backed bench that digs into your back and is impossible to sit in for more than a few minutes. It is the only place to sit and eat any meals you may have brought back from eating out. There is nothing but a small microwave to heat up your food--nothing to cook breakfast except for making hot water. There is a decent little coffee maker. The "kitchen" is advertised as a kitchenette, and people should pay attention to that if they would want to prepare something at the house. They could be able to include an electric cook top for at least frying eggs in the morning.The bed was comfortable, and actually was the most comfortable item in the house. Even sitting and reading a book was impossible, so take your book in the bedroom, and read in bed, there is nowhere else to sit for any length of time. The house was very clean, towels were thick and abundant. Shower was good. We had no one staying above us, so it was quiet.This is not a place to stay if you have any children, and having more than 2 people isn't practical nor comfortable. The TV is the size of a computer monitor.So if you want to not spend much time in this place, it's okay. Otherwise, find another rental that at least has a minimal kitchen and a comfortable place to sit and relax in the evening.The front porch is nice, depending on the weather. We spent one evening on the porch.King's Market down the street is great for buying prepared food and bringing it back to the house. Hayley's Restaurant/Bar is a good place--San Juan Brewery is close by, and Van Go's pizza is great.Would not stay here again, just because of the lack of cooking tools and lack of a comfortable relaxing space.

Cute little place!

The rooms and beds were comfortable. Nice big bathroom. There aren't any microwave dishes, just plates, bowls, etc. Apparently there's a toaster available on request. The only place that info is listed is on one of the photos. Unfortunately, we didn't find that until the day we were leaving. Otherwise, we had a great stay!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Farmer's Suite was a great choice for my friends and me to stay at during our 3 relaxing nights on San Juan Island. There was enough space for all 3 of us and the space was highly functional (nice eating area, plenty of hooks/hanging spots, adequate kitchenette, etc.). Maybe an additional mirror and blanket would've been nice. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed the stay and found it to be of great value! Excellent location as well. We often left our car parked at the place and walked around town from the suite.

I finally landed on Acanthus and I'm so glad! Completely walkable from downtown, off street parking, and all the amenities you'd need. This historic house is beautiful and charming, albeit somewhat creaky, but that's part of what comes with an older property.

Perfect Walkable Location

We were able to walk pretty much everywhere,very close to the ferry lines. The house was sweet and a little fox even came to visit our last evening.
