Downtown Friday Harbor! Miner's Suite plus Annex Suite

The Miner is one of 5 separate Suites to rent among the historic Acanthus House. The Miner Suite is a spacious upstairs studio with 2 queen beds, a well-stocked kitchenette and private 3/4 bath (shower + toilet). Enjoy the natural lighting from the three skylights.

The Annex is an adjacent room located directly next to the Miner Suite door (with separate door and entry code) with one Queen bed and one Twin bed for additional sleeping space. Annex has a separate door entrance and is not directly attached to the Miner's Suite (no bathroom in Annex. Bathroom is located in Miner's Suite)

Guests will find that one block from Acanthus Suites will bring you into the heart of downtown Friday Harbor, offering many delicious restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, ice-cream shops and art galleries, all within walking distance. On Saturday mornings the local San Juan Island Farmer's Market is a 5-minute walk from the Acanthus Suites!

Any or all Acanthus Suites can be rented for different group sizes!

The Acanthus House is one of Friday Harbor's first important historic homes. Built in 1913, it was a wedding gift for a wealthy merchant’s daughter. It has been beautifully restored. Located in historic downtown Friday Harbor; only 3 blocks from the ferry dock and Port of Friday Harbor and is an excellent option for those coming to explore the island and have a comfortable place to rest at night.

The Acanthus House does not have Air Conditioning.

Great historical space in a great location. Just outside of the bustle of Friday Habor, but still very close and walkable. The only criticisms were the shower water pressure, which is understandable for an old home and a mildewy smelling shower curtain. Great stay overall!

The only thing that would have been nice is an electric kettle. They have a bunch of Keurig machines, but I like to make my own pour overs and a kettle would have been nice. That said, I don't expect a kettle when I travel and had a perfectly pleasant stay.

Great Location with a Great Vibe

Enjoyed my stay in this charming Craftsmen Style Home, which was conveniently located near downtown Friday Harbor. The location made it quick and easy drive to any of the beaches and walking distance to Friday Harbor's many restaurants, stores and bars.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Adequate accommodations for our family of five. The only real bummer was the water pressure in the shower...it was basically a dribble. Other than dishes and flatware, the kitchen has no utensils/supplies, so plan on bringing your own if you’re like us and cook with an instant pot while traveling. Easy walk to town and a very friendly staff.

Arrived Friday Harbor, took ferry to Orcas second day, Trolly tour of San Juan Island 3rd day. Loved the sculpture garden.

The Acanthus Suites are just adorable. A historic little spot within walking distance of everything in Friday Harbor. The pictures in the hallway describing the history of the home and the area added to the quaint and homey vibe. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Overall happy with our stay

We were very happy with the cleanliness and location of the property. The layout of the Miner suite and Annex is a bit strange and it would help to make a floor plan available for guests before booking. We were also surprised that there were no tea/coffee supplies available.

Great Place

We loved staying her on our trip to Friday Harbor. The location was wonderful and we could easily walk to town. I wish it would have been more clearly advertised that the room next door comes with it as well. Although we wouldn't have felt comfortable having our kids in the separate room because there are other people in the house also. We stayed in the one room all together and it was great. We loved Friday Harbor and will be back!

4th of July

Loved the location and sleeping arrangements were adequate. Bed in Annex was very hard and that room was very hot even with windows open and fan going. We were so busy we didn't use the tiny TV. Only real sitting area is the dining table. Five of us stayed and it was a reasonable cost.

Too overpriced for sub-par room

This was an upstairs studio/attic room called the Miner's Room, and, frankly, it looked like a low class place underground workers would go to for a short sleep before hitting the mines again. Examples: - The windows were small, didn't open far enough to cool in a hot summer (no a/c). - The kitchenette was 1970s style with formica and vinyl everywhere. Fridge and microwave were itry bitty. - Furniture was decrepit. Table was falling apart, armoir could only hold clothes if they went in the wrong way, drawers wouldn't slide right / fell off. These weren't antique, they were low class thrift store quality. - Throw rug over the vinyl floor was threadbare and very dirty. Bedclothess looked 20 years old - tattered and faded color. - Bathroom was smallest we've ever had, maybe under 20 sq ft? Motel 6 would've been a big step up. Hot water heater and cleaner stuff were behind the thinnest of curtains was not very clean. - TV was a joke. My computer monitor at home was a much better quality.

Not what it cracked up to be

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall the main room was pretty dirty (it was clear it had not been cleaned in a while). The annex room was also full of dust and required many hours of opening the windows & using the fan (so bad that most people in our group refused to sleep in there). The sheets didn't look entirely clean either and everything had that feeling like you didn't want to touch it. Even the bath towel scraped up my face (something sharp on the towel). The location was excellent, but if you can book a different VRBO, I definitely would -- I would NOT stay here again! There were also a million strict house rules communicated ahead of time so it didn't feel very homey. The property managers should do a better job of cleaning / airing it out and also loosen up a bit on how they communicate on the rules.

Everything was awesome. We love that they had blackberry briars all around the property. We ate so many delicious blackberries. The only true complaint I have, was that the eater pressure in the shower was not great. Other than that, everything was just as we where told. I would love to stay there again, next time we visit the magical townnof Friday Harbor. What is not said in the description that we found great, was it proximity to everything. You. An literally walk to everything within town.
