Girls Trip

We really enjoyed our stay at Oyster Catcher. The beach is a 5 minute walk. The screened in porch and area under the house are great for hanging out. The beach gear provided was nice added bonus. The front door frame needs to be adjusted because you have to fight to get the deadbolt locked. I would definitely stay again.

Wonderful home with a short walk to the beach!

Reviewer Comments: We had an absolutely perfect stay at the Oyster Catcher! The home is obviously well cared for and they are in the process of updates to make it even better! We loved spending lazy mornings on the screened porch and our puppy loved going out on it to lay on the sun. The beach was a short walk away and having the cart available made it so easy to pack everything we would need for the whole day!

Great location, great rental agency.

Cape trip summer 2022

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was great loved the big screened in porch. Close walk to beach, however, the standing dirty water around 3 sides of the house and almost knee deep at the entrance to the dune walk over was terrible. It didn't go down until the day before we left. Under the house was un-usable all week which meant no outdoor shower to use. It also caused a big mosquito problem. they would swarm us each time we tried to enter the home in the evening. we also saw several snakes coming in and out of the water so that really bothered my wife. With all this being said and the recent comments in the guess book about the water problems this must be a recurring issue. We will never rent here again due to these issues and would like some monetary compensation for our not being able to fully enjoy our vacation. Also, the air filter in the hall way was filty (I have pictures if you would like to see) It Didn't look like it had been changed in a vey long time. Sure didn't help with my Asthma and allergies. No excuse for that not being changed. Could be the reason the unit freezes up.

Great location, house has issues

Spent a month at the home. Here are the pros and cons to help make a decision whether this is a good choice for a stay based on our experience. Pros: Price is considerably lower than many homes Really pleasant walk across the boardwalk to a very quiet beach We met great fellow snowbird neighbors, many dog lovers Our dog loved walks on the beach Kitchen had old utensils and pots and pans, but plenty of them The location is very tucked away and quiet Rental company was pleasant and responsive about some things, but overall pretty ineffective. Cons: The house was not well cleaned, I suggest bringing cleaning supplies along with all paper products. The house is poorly maintained. Filthy air return, dirty windows, broken grill, unusable chairs, non-working locks. There was no lighting on the stairs and deck which was extremely dangerous at night. A flashlight is essential. The furniture is old and in disrepair. Stained cushions, broken down and most all of it needs replacing. The porch is pleasant but the furniture is not like its pictured. The king bed was passable but the full bed was really bad. I can’t imagine anyone sleeping on the pull out sofa or futon. Maybe kids could handle it. Without warning us a giant dumpster showed up in the driveway one day and a crew arrived the next day to replace the roof. The dumpster remained there for the last two weeks of our stay. The management company didn’t do anything about it. So if you want a (relatively) cheap place and don’t plan on spending a lot of time there this will work. Just hope this you know what you’re getting. I would not go back.

Off the beaten path

Up than down a sandy unpaved road and you will find Oyster Catcher. Recent replaces decking was nice. The screened in porch was the setting for hours of reading in the afternoon breeze. The house was very dated but comfortable. The king bed was also very comfortable. We had issues with the water heater but was promptly addressed and replaced inside of a day and 1/2. Overall a very nice months stay

Dirty and ill kept.

To start with the property was flooded in the back yard and side yard. Construction debris and deck furniture were floating in the water. We could not park under the deck because of the water. The new deck is nice but the lighting was not hooked up so it made it treacherous to navigate up and down at night. The place in general looked like a hurry up job of cleaning and we spent half a day getting it cleaned up. There is mold under the cushions of the fold out couch so sitting on it to watch TV was out. The furniture in general is old and uncomfortable. The windows were so dirt you could hardly see out most of them. The storm door on the deck is off kilter and will not open properly. I was sitting on the porch swing and the eye bolt pulled out of the joist and I went crashing on to the deck. The eye bolt came down and hit me on the wrist causing a bruise and a cut. fortunately my legs were in front of me so only my pride was hurt. The dryer knob was stripped causing a call for a repair man (Who was prompt and competent in fixing it). The road is so bad the trash man won't come up it so we had to take trash up to the main road. The path to the beach is muddy and makes you feel like you are invading the privacy of the people that live on either side of it. The lawn care guy showed up on Monday and got stuck three times in the mud. Very noisy and really unneeded because of the flooding. The day before our last scheduled day we had to wade into the encroaching swamp water to move our vehicle out to the road enough to load it. So we did and left a day early. I know all about Florida Rain and flooding but this was ridiculous! The place in general smelled of damp and swamp. Sorry but I will stick to Collins for future rentals.

Great house, unique location

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were very happy with the rental. The house was clean and very comfortable; the layout is perfect and we enjoyed the open plan and porches. The surrounding marshes are great bird and "critter" watching in general. The walk to the boardwalk was not too bad, but the boardwalk was long enough that in sum, the distance was prohibitive to a certain extent. That said, the boardwalk is over marshes, which again, were so interesting to observe. Beach is nice and VERY private; neighbors were very kind as well. The management company was excellent and maintence quickly responded to our minor concerns. The downsides: unwelcome critters. There were fire ants well invested around foundation and swarmed any beach gear left on ground level. The marsh is neat, except excessive rain led to some flooding. The grill is terrible; old school type that you see at RV parks and that furthermore had a hole in bottom large enough to render unusable and water made it pretty much unreachable most of the time anyway. We were VERY happy with the rental as a whole and would certainly recommend.

Rustic but comfortable

We had a relaxed and comfortable 2 weeks at Oyster Catcher. Communication from agents was great and the house was very clean and comfortable, but not high -end if that’s what you’re looking for. We weren’t, just looking for a place we and our 90 pound Lab could relax and have a short walk to a nice uncrowded beach. We found everything we needed was provided, a home away from home. With all of that being said, the house could use some lighting on the staircase, a new double mattress and a small floor vacuum. The steps were lighted by one small bulb and an accident waiting to happen. The double mattress was really bad and my visiting brother slept on the twin. These things didn’t keep us from enjoying the house and thinking of returning next year, but it would be great to see them updated.

Good location with some disappointment

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed the location. It was close to the beach, although the picture of the house was in fact facing sideways, not to the beach. Nice open space was also great. However, there were two things that we were very disappointed about. One was that the main shower did not work. It was a new year week & COVID so we didn't want to contact the realtor and have someone come and fix it. The other thing was more serious. This house had a serious roach infestation problem. During our stay, we probably caught 20-30 both small and fairly larger ones especially around the kitchen. There were always some in the oven clock/timer window and we knew they were alive because sometimes they were there and sometimes they were not. We sealed the food and garbage cans really tight but that was no help. This was very disgusting. I submitted the review and the e-mailed the office about this after we left, but never heard back. Since we got another e-mail asking for a review, so I am writing this again... I hope someone gets back to us. We wonder what the company usually does for the situation like this.

Vacation of Adventures

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall we had a great vacation! The pros: the house was close to the beach, with a boardwalk. Open dining and living room space. A nice screened in porch with a table we used often. Close to many fishing spots and the main city of PSJ. Close to one of the best donut shops I’ve ever been too, I definitely recommend! Close to the bike/walking path that was approx 8 miles going one way, had access to other boardwalks and nice views of the bay. Close general stores for bait, quick essentials, souvenirs. I recommend Beach Planet. Provided linens, towels, and kitchen utensils and pots/pans, coffee maker. The cons: the refrigerator smelled like very strong seafood, there were roaches coming out from the bottom of the fridge. The time we went late Sept/early Oct there was a few feet of water under the house, which made it difficult to use the outside shower and fish cleaning table. There were several inches of mucky water you had to go through to use the nearest beach boardwalk. The kitchen Cooking utensils were worn out, but usable. The entry code was difficult to figure out at first. Using a 3rd party for renting the home was challenging when it came to making the 2nd payment. I had to call to a few different places to figure it out. I recommend bringing your own food storage containers for leftovers, spices, oils and any ingredients you may need. Recommend bringing dish soap, dishwasher detergent, dish sponge, and basic kitchen cleaning spray as they were not provided. Even though there were cons. It does not take away some of the best memories we’ve had during our stay and it’s pet friendly! Overall a pleasant vacation and home :)

Great Home But With Some Maintenance Issues

The home itself and location are great. Very close to the beach and large communal areas. However, there were some issues during our stay. Firstly, prior to our arrival we were informed that the septic system had overflowed. Luckily the odor was only noticeable in the driveway and only lasted a few days. I’m not sure when or if the issue was resolved as the property manager did not follow up but we did not have any other issues related to the septic system. Secondly, when we arrived the timer knob on the dryer did not work so we could not start the dryer. I called the after-hours maintenance phone number and someone quickly came to see if it could be fixed. We ended up having to use pliers to grab and turn the knob for 4 days before someone could come to fix it. The dryer should have been checked and fixed before we arrived. Also, several kitchen items are in bad condition and need to be replaced and some throw blankets smelled bad. Overall, the house met our needs and the maintenance workers we interacted with were very helpful. I think with proper maintenance of this property it could be a 5-star vacation rental.

Relaxing Vacation

It was just as it appeared in the pictures and the area is quiet. It is close walk to access beach boardwalk. When we weren't at the beach, the screened in porch was our favorite. We all enjoyed a nap in the hammock! The beds were comfy, the bathrooms clean and nice, and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking.

Family Vacation

Five minute walk to the Gulf on a secluded section of beach. House is as pictured; not luxurious but suitable for a family week at the beach. Nice large open area for family time. Beds and futon are comfortable but pull out couch is difficult to sleep on due to low quality mattress and bar in the middle of your back. Kitchen has basics. A/C and hot water worked well. Propane tank on grill was empty. Things were not as clean as anticipated but it appeared we were first guest since vacation rentals opened back up and nobody had stopped by to check it out after sitting empty for a couple of months (Ex. expired eggs in frig, dust on counters, blanket in closet smelled like a dog). WiFi was spotty so don't count on it for work related tasks. Nice neighborhood area made up of individual homes occupied by renters and permanent residents. For the price would consider visiting again if we return to this area.
