Ideal for families, a complementary range of activities for children aged 5 to 11 is available in the peak weeks of the summer holidays. GK Operations Manager Harvey Smith: (00 30) 694 361 3849 From Chania Step 1 After you have collected your car from the airport, exit the airport and continue along a straight road for about 500m until you reach a junction, where you turn left signposted to Chania (Hania, Chania and Xania are different spellings of the same place). Continue along this road until you reach a roundabout. Turn right here and follow the signpost to Chania (3km). Continue along the main road, and after you pass through Pithari you will come to a roundabout, take the second exit sign posted for “Souda”. Follow this road as it drops down to Souda Bay, passing Souda Bay Cemetery on your left (12km). Step 2 Continue on the flat for a further kilometre, through the outskirts of Souda until you reach a set of traffic lights and a large SYNKA supermarket on the right. Turn right at the lights and after approximately 200 metres there is a signpost marked “Rethimnon 56, Iraklion 136”. Signal left and turn into the wide road, with a BP garage on your right. Continue along a dual carriageway for 800m and go under the bridge. Immediately turn left, following the sign for “Rethymnon” This slip road takes you on to the main E90 highway (approximately 20 minutes travelling time so far). Step 3 Join the highway and continue your journey. You will pass the turnings for Souda and then for Aptera/Stilos. The next junction will be for Kalami/KALYVES (23km). Turn left at this junction, being careful of the fast traffic coming from the opposite direction. Step 4 After 400m you will pass through the tiny hamlet of Kalami. Carry on down the hill for a further 1.8km where you will come to a significant left-hand bend. Follow the road for a further 400m after the bend and take the first left hand turn. On this turning there is a sign to GK Eatery/Simpson Travel. Follow this road for 300m. GK Beach Hotel is on your left-hand side just before the beach and the car parking is the last driveway on the left before the sea. Welcome to GK Beach Hotel From Heraklion Step 1 After you have collected your car from Heraklion Airport, you will leave the departure area and make your way to the traffic lights. At this crossroads the terminal building should be behind you. Continue straight and turn right before the bridge, following the green sign showing “RETHYMNO 80”. This will take you onto the National Highway. Follow the National Highway West bound, skirting Heraklion. Step 2 Follow the signs for Rethymnon continuing on the National Highway. You will pass various junctions including Agia Pelagia, Bali, and Panormo. Rethymnon will be the next town. You will pass Rethymnon on the RHS and you will know you have passed Rethymnon when you drive through the UNDERPASS on the National Highway. This is the only one on the entire highway. Once through the underpass, take note of your kilometre reading and continue along the National Highway following signs for Chania. Step 3 Before reaching Chania and 36 kms after the underpass, you will see a sign for Kalyves on the RIGHT-hand side. DO NOT take this junction. Travel approximately 4.9 kms to the next and SECOND junction for Kalyves and take this turning towards the sea and back down the hill. Step 4 After 400m you will pass through the tiny hamlet of Kalami. Carry on down the hill for a further 1.8km where you will come to a significant left-hand bend.
