Cozy stone cottage

It certainly is a cozy stone cottage. Beautiful grounds. A great home base to exploring the finger lakes. Nancy is a wonderful host, and a pleasure to work with after a scheduling issue on our end. Loved that both of the indoor fireplace, an outdoor fire pit for both set up and ready to light. We will definitely be back.

Stone Cottage is cozy and refined

We had a fun weekend at the Stone Cottage. The cottage is cozy and really cool. I think I was expecting a place that was very rustic, but the cottage is actually quite refined, with beautiful wood and stone work. We also appreciated that we were allowed to bring our small dogs along on the trip.

Very nice

I was scheduled to stay in the Stone Cottage but a glitch with the AC during a heatwave necessitated a quick change to the Tower at the time of check in. Nancy was very responsive and quick to provide solutions when I checked in and discovered I had no AC. The Tower is lovely and very peaceful.

Magical Stone cottage

I absolutely loved this little house. It was so perfect. The nights were quiet and far enough from the lights of town that you could see millions of fireflies in the fields, yet only about a 5 minute drive in. The house is an artistic gem and Nancy is a super friendly host.

My wife and I had a great time at this property. Quiet and serene, with high-quality furniture and appointments. We stayed for three nights in June for my 25th Cornell Reunion. I recommend it 100%.

A lovely place for a relaxing get away!

The stone cottage was everything we could have asked for and more! It was the perfect size for a couple, the property was clean and quiet and the perfect distance to hikes or to downtown. The bed was a king size and had cozy sheets and plenty of pillows. We loved the jacuzzi tub and it was so nice to have just enough dishes and cookware to prepare snacks/a meal or two if we wanted. The electric kettle was great! We added one to our wish list. Property owner was responsive and very helpful, gave a recommendation for us to try a restaurant that turned out to be lovely. All in all we had a truly wonderful weekend at the cabin and could not have asked for more! Thank you!! Can’t wait to come back!

Relaxing get away

Very relaxing bathtub and fireplace. Comfortable bed. A short drive to Ithaca downtown. Does get VERY cold at night and there is only 1 small space heater. It was freezing and they only gave about 10 pieces of wood for 3 days. Would recommend coming with your own wood to keep the place heated. Other than that is was a wonderful stay.

Perfect for a winter weekend

Sometimes you just need to get away to somewhere warm... but if you're stuck in upstate NY, this little cottage is the next best thing. The fireplace and jacuzzi were wonderful; a very unique and cozy place for 2!

Unique and charming cottage

Everything was so lovely, my only suggestion would be a space heater, It was really cold. Everything else was great, The bedding was amazing.

Cornell Parents Weekend

This property was close to campus which was helpful. The best feature was the real wood burning fireplace which we used both nights. The property was quiet and secluded. We did miss not getting cable news on the television.

Wonderfully relaxing weekend away

We loved the Stone Cottage! It was a perfect quiet spot yet only a few minute drive to plenty of attractions. Our dogs loved the fenced in yard and plenty of property to explore. Would definitely stay again

Nice place to stay.

My boyfriend and I planned a last minute trip in which we received a speedy response from the host. We also got to bring our dog which was a great bonus. The place was really clean and the bed and pillows were really comfy. The host gave us our privacy and it was a relaxing getaway.

A little too far off the beaten path.

Property manager was extremely friendly but did end up showing up to clean the A/C last minute. As by the picture it’s apparent the house is built halfway into a hill which left for a damp, musty climate in the house. This didn’t couple well with the dark lighting within the cabin to make a welcoming space. The windows and blinds were quite dirty but didn’t affect our stay in any way but could have been an issue with someone suffering from allergies. Bed was comfortable and shower head was amazing. Overall, not a bad experience but probably wouldn’t stay again.

Relaxing cottage

A comfortable cottage with room to relax. Just outside of town, it's still easy to reach to everything. There's a nice patio with plenty of places to sit in the shade. The property owner was very nice and attentive to our needs.

Can’t recommend enough!

Nancy’s place was perfect for our stay in Ithaca. It was cozy and very private enough though it is right next to her house. She thankfully allowed our dog to stay with us which we really appreciated. The jacuzzi tub was one of our favorite features of the house. We can’t recommend Nancy’s house enough to anyone!

Great time at a very cute cottage!

We stayed at the very pretty stone cottage with our golden retriever and loved the stay here. The wood burning fireplace, large jacuzzi tub and the extremely comfortable heated king size mattress made the place just what we needed after a long day of hiking. Nancy was available to address any of our needs. A small word of caution, the cottage was not as secluded as we thought and is surrounded by the rest of the cottages on the property. However, we had everything we needed within the cottage and were nevertheless able to roam the grounds freely with our dog who had a wonderful time, and the owners stayed out of our way unless we needed something. Ithaca is a really nice place to visit with many restaurants and hiking trails all around; do not miss the gorge trail at Robert H. Treman state park, it was breathtaking. Would definitely visit again!

Relaxing getaway

Our stay in the Stone Cottage was perfect. It may have been a small space, but it had everything needed for an ideal weekend. Except for the occasional crowing of the rooster, it was silent and homey. The property is lovely and Nancy was helpful and welcoming. We will be booking again soon!

Buzz and Nancy met in 1990 and have slowly transformed the property as they've raised their children there. Buzz is from Ithaca, and Nancy's paternal family has lived in upstate New York for almost 200 years. Her maternal family is from Brooklyn. They both love traveling, and appreciate the new ideas they pick up when away from home.

Buzz's family has had a stone quarry here since 1956 when they took it over from Cornell University. Stone is no longer quarried or fabricated here; the quarry reclaimation should be finished soon, and the neighborhood is increasingly residential.

We love the hillside meadow, the woods, the pond, the gardens, the orchard, the root cellar, the views . . . though with about five acres, it all keeps us busy!

The main house was a Cornell Farm Service home Buzz moved here in 1987. After renovating the main house and raising our children, in 2003 Buzz built a garage with a 700 sq. ft. apartment for extended stays on the second floor. It was so popular, he built the stone cottage two years later. The tower cottage came along in 2012, and in August of 2014, the summer house up on the ridge above the main house was opened. Each is unique, but all are supremely comfortable.

Buzz started with a blank palate here, as the property was old quarry land. If Buzz isn't golfing, he is happiest taking an idea from paper to stone and wood. Buzz enjoys design, and our travels have subtly influenced each new building. The local blacksmith, Duran Van Dorn, has contributed his unique style as well. Nancy enjoys the interior design, keeping the focus on guest comfort while considering sustainability and utilizing the local producers of fine furnishings, particularly Stickley, Harden and J.W. Southard.

Guests are encouraged to make themselves at home - walk the grounds, relax on the patio, or the swing down by the pond, watch the swallows by day or fireflies on July evenings, maybe catch a glimpse of the chickens othrough the back yard fence. Nights are quiet and days can be as busy or relaxing as you'd like.
