An incredible view from a spacious apartment, but unfortunately we can't recommend because the owner has charged us 300 euros for damage we did not cause, and now we have to appeal via VRBO for a refund of this unjust damage charge. This has completely ruined a much-needed family holiday, and left us feeling hurt and upset.
Also good to know that the apartment actually only has air-con in the 2 bedrooms, not the main living space or the alcove with a bed in it - so it was too hot for us to use the alcove bed. Plus it is a 12-15 minute walk to the beach and a bakery/butchers, and the route goes up and down very steep slopes in both directions, so you probably need a car.
Be warned that there are no instructions for any of the appliances in the apartment, nor instructions for tenants - ie you must empty the bin on departure.
Despite repeated requests from me to the owner via the VRBO app we were not sent directions, nor information as to how we would enter the apartment, although the owner had kindly agreed to let us in 1.5 hours early. We eventually found the property by driving up and down the road and managed to recognise it from the photos.
Re the alleged damage - the owner says we damaged the dishwasher, but it wasn't working when we arrived and so we messaged him. He came, summoned a repair man, who he left working unsupervised. The repair man did not fix the machine, and damaged the dishwasher door, which is what the owner is now blaming us for.
The neighbours told us that a previous tenant had mentioned that the dishwasher didn't work, so it would seem the owner does not really check the apartment over very carefully on a regular basis. In fact when he was showing us around initially I pointed out that one of the outside sofa cushions had something that looked like excrement on it, and he quickly picked it up and brushed it off over the balcony, saying it was fine, although it was left with a brown stain. Not lovely!
The owner claims we damaged several things - all untrue. I feel he took this stance because he was annoyed that we were not ready to leave the apartment at 10am, even though our email from VRBO clearly stated 11am as check-out. When we showed him the email he just repeated that 10am was the check out time. Somehow he thought this was our fault, not his.
Such a shame... We have rented many properties across Europe and never had anything like this at all - better luck with your holidays..
