## Emplacement
Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer is a commune of the Var, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, located on the homonymous peninsula which is connected to the mainland by the isthmus of Sablettes. It is located about fifteen kilometers south of Toulon, where it partly "closes" the harbor. The commune was officially created in 1950. Until then, the village was part of La Seyne-sur-Mer. Originally made up of islets, the territory became a single island in the Middle Ages, the island of Sépet, then was connected to the mainland in the seventeenth century. The history of Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer is closely linked to that of the nearby military marine base of Toulon. The history of Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer is closely linked to that of the nearby Toulon naval base, first with the installation of an infirmary and then a military hospital, followed by a fort and batteries for defensive purposes, and finally a lighthouse.Today, the French Navy still occupies three quarters of the town's territory, with a naval training center, a diving base and a school for mechanics. From a civil point of view, formerly turned towards agriculture, the activity has been concentrated on tourism, with the creation of a marina and the preservation of a quality coastal environment where beaches and pine forests are appreciated. The town, which has some 5,800 inhabitants, also demonstrates a certain cultural dynamism. It is therefore a holiday resort with a legitimate reputation.
