If you're looking for peace, tranquility and the MOST gorgeous views of the Rappahannock River from (almost) EVERY room in the house, then welcome to your clean and newly-built little slice of heaven!
"The Cottage", as it has been lovingly called by the owners since 1965, has a magical air of peace that hits you from the moment you come around the final bend in to the private property where The Cottage resides. As you step out of the car and take in your first breath of crisp, clean, country air, your worries will melt away.
The original Cottage was, unfortunately, one of the many victims of Hurricane Isabel's destructive path in 2003. The home was rebuilt in 2005 almost precisely to it's original footprint (but with a better, updated layout); hence the allowance for the home being SO close to the majestic Rappahannock River (you cannot legally build this close to the water anymore!).
The home has two smartly furnished bedrooms, one full bath and, oddly enough, one random, lonesome toilet in the utility room.
The first bedroom has a king bed, a huge closet, dresser drawers and a Smart TV.
The second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, a daybed, a huge closet, dresser drawers and a Smart TV. ***RETURNING GUESTS: The trundle bed underneath the daybed in this bedroom is no longer available for use due to property damage in the past. The back bedroom has 1 queen bed and 1 twin bed ONLY, effective January 1st, 2024.***
There is a queen-sized sleeper sofa in the sunroom with extra memory foam provided for the pull-out mattress. ONLY good for your early risers!
The full bathroom is spacious and well-designed with plenty of storage. The shower is handicap-friendly with a low lip, two seats and a portable shower head.
The kitchen is fully stocked with every utensil and dish imaginable! If cooking isn't on your agenda, a quick 10-15 minute drive to town boasts several great, locally owned restaurants - breakfast or lunch at Java Jack's is a MUST!
Adjacent to the kitchen is a large and spacious family room with a reclining couch and loveseat, and dining room with an extendable table that easily seats 6 guests (extra foldout chairs are provided).
Lounge on the furnished deck while you sip your coffee, then prepare for a day of fishing - from the front yard itself!
We offer early check-ins whenever possible, however WE DO NOT OFFER LATE CHECKOUTS. Early check-ins are less likely during our busy summer season. We will notify you as soon as we can about the ability to offer an early check-in but it likely will not be until a day or so before your reservation.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
There is a rather unsightly house right before you get to the cottage itself. The residents have never posed a threat to renters or year-round tenants, the house and yard are just trashy.
The boat ramp, docks and piers surrounding the property are privately owned. Use of any of these properties or approaching the property owners to ask to use them is COMPLETELY PROHIBITED and will result in immediate termination of your lease. You will be required to vacate the property immediately and you will not receive ANY refunds at all, including your security deposit. No exceptions.
Cleaning Fee - 100% of the $150 cleaning fee goes directly to our housekeeping team. The cleaning fee includes the laundering of ALL towels and linens in addition to taking the trash and recycling to the dump on top of the regular deep clean and disinfecting she does between every single renter.
Water access is on the far side of the yard via a creek or via a ladder in the front yard that leads directly down to (frequently) shallow waters. There is a small, cleared path leading down to the creek and we recommend that you stay on the landscape fabric. We have easily pulled the kayaks and paddle boards in and out of the water here. Pictures are in our photo album. Water shoes are HIGHLY recommended; there are large rocks and protrusions under the water that you CANNOT see, mostly in the creek area.
Jellyfish start appearing mid-summer and stay around until the fall. If you get stung by a jellyfish, baking soda, vinegar and meat tenderizer have been said to help lessen the sting.
There is an additional $25 pet cleaning fee per pet per stay.
Please do not be dishonest about the number of guests you have or whether or not you're bringing pets; we have security cameras and do check for accuracy.
Use condiments at your own risk.
