The house is beautiful, better than the photos and overall we had a great time. As other reviewers shared, we had a few glitches with the house and the property management setup.
In the interest of sharing our experience for you to set expectations for your trip, here is what we experienced:
Pros:
The home is clean, spacious and in good condition
The property, privacy and distance to Durango is perfect.
You can’t get better outdoor space, even had our own walking trail that we used each day off the back yard. We loved having the stream flowing for a special touch and outdoor seating.
The home's layout is great for a big group and worked well.
The kitchen was well enough stocked to prepare our Thanksgiving dinner for 12. Not perfect, but pretty dang good for a rental.
We enjoyed the fireplaces and the woodsy/comfy feel but still well-appointed.
The check out list was easy and reasonable (I’ve seen far worse)
When our heat and hot water went out we had prompt service and attention.
A few fails:
Having rented homes all over the world, I can say this property management company seems to be about policy as opposed to human touch. There are signs everywhere (and the welcome emails) warning about usage of things, towels, toilet paper, etc. I consider this home to be in the luxury rental category, but the level of control + warnings reduce this feeling immensely. This could be much better controlled to allow the illusion of luxury.
The upstairs TVs are there, but no remotes. After we found one remote and turned on TV’s we found that the wifi cannot support the Roku and they just searched endlessly.
We were a group of 12 but we learned that the house cannot support the usage of our group. We were constantly out of hot water. Our heat/hot water stopped in one night and when the plumber came the next day, he said the house is on a system that runs on priority. Basically, his advice was… stop using anything but heat till it warms back up. He also indicated that we cannot use, washer, shower, heat, fireplace, etc all at the same time. So …. Basically this home isn’t built for 12 if we have to be constantly worried about prioritizing heat to the main floor.
Few little wonky things like the dining chairs are on their last leg and one is about to break apart. Without the other concerns, I wouldn’t have even mentioned this.
Overall we enjoyed our imperfect stay and in a pinch, would stay here again.. Hope this is helpful!
