Helen has been our summer vacation destination several times in the past decade, and though we've stayed at hotels, rented other cabins, and camped in Unicoi State Park, this cabin has been our lodging of choice for our last three visits. The price is great, it's pet-friendly, and it's everything it says it is. We've rented other cabins that were just as nice but more expensive, and just as secluded, but miles from downtown Helen, instead of within walking distance, as this one is. Once we get to this cabin in Helen, we park our vehicle and don't drive again until it's time to leave. Betty's Market and the liquor store are only a couple of blocks away, and all of downtown Helen is within walking distance. But when you're at this cabin, you feel like you're miles away in the mountains. It's quiet, peaceful, and relaxing, with no sounds of traffic or crowds, even though everything is very close. And because it's very secluded and not on any of the main roads, it's perfect for our dogs, who we can walk outside without worrying about them running into traffic or crowds of people. By now they know where we're going as soon as we get near Helen and are just excited as we are to get back to our cabin retreat in one of our very favorite places in the whole world! The owners are very accommodating and see that there's everything you could possibly need for a comfortable and relaxing vacation. Our family loves to play cards and board games and grill steaks, burgers and bratwursts from Betty's Market on the back decks while listening to the gurgle of the babbling brook that runs through the property. My brother's 9-year-old grandson came with us this latest visit, and as he and I are the early risers in the family, we did an early morning trek to Betty's Market, which opens at 7 a.m., every morning to get "supplies" which included his favorite candy from the old-fashioned candy stocked there. This cabin is truly a remarkable place to enjoy all that Helen has to offer, the great restaurants, shops, beer, tubing, magnificent mountain scenery, etc. Rent this cabin and you'll fall in love with it too, the magical spell of Helen and the mountains will catch you up and you'll feel you've stumbled into a fairyland of a place reminiscent of the village that only comes to life once every 100 years in the movie "Brigadoon." We can't get enough of it, and as always, vacation time goes way too fast, and when it's time to leave, we're already planning our next visit!
