White Squirrel Lodge - Family friendly, pond & stream, breezy porches & wildlife

Located in Hidden Valley off of Williamson Creek Rd in Pisgah Forest / Brevard, NC just 8 minutes from downtown Brevard, close to the Hospital and about the same distance to Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State Park. The Lodge is situated on a wooded corner lot with a pond on one side and a small stream on another. The lot backs up to a game trail and salt block where we regularly see deer, squirrels (white & grey), chipmunks, rabbits, fox and about every bird in the region.

New VRBO listing mid June, '20, privately managed for 8 years. Many of our guests look forward to returning annually and have visited here for years.

Although there’s lots to see and do in the area, some of our guests prefer to sit on the porch in the Sky Chair, sip their favorite beverage read a book and watch the wildlife. It’s truly a very unique experience. Please read our reviews!

THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL RENTAL, there are very few like it! Very clean with lots of special touches. Our outside fire pit is a great place to hear the running stream below. Summer or Winter it’s a quiet restful spot in the Forest. Do Not miss booking this adorable cabin as it is often booked a year in advance. The house is sunny, bright, breezy and well appointed with upscale furnishings, antiques and local art. While we've not had any security issues we do have outside driveway security cameras that are motion activated. These were installed because of the national increase in Porch Pirates stealing deliveries. They are not viewed unless there’s an issue.

Family Mountain Weekend

The White Squirrel Lodge is such a blessing. It is cozy, clean, and a refreshing place to stay. We have been blessed to stay there three years in a row.

Loved the wildlife!

We enjoyed our stay at White Squirrel Lodge. House was clean and stocked with everything you need. Spent most of our time out on the deck watching the birds, white & gray squirrels and the deer. Spent some time in Brevard checking out the shops and walking around it's a cute little town. Would definitely would come back to stay again.

Perfect home away from home

Our family of six was in town so that some of our kids could see mountains for the first time. The house was welcoming and fully stocked and we loved watching the squirrels and deer from the porch. We spent our days hiking and swimming in the forest and, the area had all we needed to make our stay absolutely delightful. Would love to stay Again, and thankfully, the weather was perfect! I think the best part was the kitchen – if you love to cook this is the best kitchen away from home I've experienced so far!

The White Squirrel Lodge is a great mountain stay near Brevard

We were very happy with our stay at the White Squirrel Lodge. From the comfy sofas, the well-stocked kitchen, and the big porch to watching the deer and squirrels, all of our needs were met and exceeded. We were close to our favorite hikes and Brevard was just a short drive away. We definitely plan to return in the future!

Amazing property

If you enjoy watching wildlife, love peaceful porch sitting and a comfy, relaxing, clean, and welcoming home, this property is for you. Everything about this cabin is amazing. The furniture in the living room is so comfortable and the entire home is well stocked with everything that you will need. The porch is so nice to sit on. We saw raccoon, plenty of white squirrels, so many deer and a black bear. All front the comfort of the porch. We will definitely be back.

Amazing cabin in the woods

This house in the woods was so amazing. We sat out on the wonderful covered porch almost the entire day when we weren’t at the music festival. The white squirrels were so much fun to watch,as were the deer. I have never been in a rental house that included so much—-kitchen spices, Saran Wrap, etc.. And the laundry had soap and spot spray and anything you could think of. The beds and furniture were very comfortable, and the decor was interesting and fun! My husband and I are in our upper 80’s and worried about the spiral staircase, but we held on and had no problem. It was extremely sturdy. We didn’t use the fire pit cause we worried about the dry weather, but I’m sure it would be fun. This house wasn’t just a house, it was an experience.

Perfect place for relaxing

Great house and great location. You'll be close to hiking and cycling. Owners were helpful and even provided cracked corn to feed the deer and birdseed for the birds. We enjoyed spending the afternoons watching the wildlife. House was cozy, clean and had everything we needed.

Bike trail vacation

We loved the place and the location was perfect for being close to the bike trails. Fire pit and grill were used several times and we enjoyed seeing the deer and white squirrel s play in the mornings. Pleanty of room and very well thought out lighting and details around the house. Top notch accomodatiins in a great woodsy setting!

Perfect home tucked away in a perfect spot!!

We enjoyed a long weekend at White Squirrel Lodge! This home was perfect for our stay. We were so close to downtown Brevard and Sliding rock! The wildlife is right out the front door and the white squirrels literally came right up on the porch while we were outside in rocking chairs! A quirky little raccoon visited us every night of our stay. We enjoyed cooking in the WELL STOCKED kitchen. The hosts were wonderful and quick to respond to our questions and needs. I highly recommend this spot. The multiple levels were accessible inside via spiral staircase (which the kiddos loved, I liked it too) as well as outside. It’s a quiet spot that makes you feel one with nature and off the beaten path, however, very close to anything you may need and some really cool attractions. The hosts also provide beach towels for swimming in the streams and creeks that are nearby! They thought of everything. I would love to return here with my family on our next mountain vacation!! Thank you for sharing your home!

Wonderful place to stay!

This was a great place to stay for me and my kids! The house had everything we needed and then some. If we had a question, we got an answer right away. We watched the deer and white squirrels, we’re right near town, and near all of the activities we had planned. We had an amazing time and will go back next time we’re in Brevard.

Weekend away with friends

Myself and two of my friends came for four nights. The home was clean and comfortable. Since I was the one sleeping upstairs, getting my suitcase up the spiral staircase was a challenge but I later decided I could have left it downstairs, since the bathroom was located there. The porch in this home is the best part. The first night corn was spread in a clearing to attract deer. We had five deer come to eat and discovered there are three white squirrel who live near the house. The next day we drove to the Brevard hardware store and purchased more corn and sunflower seeds. We spread them in the clearing in the woods everyday. We enjoyed watching deer, white and grey squirrels, chipmunks and birds. This was a very peaceful relaxing long weekend. We plan on returning and might even decide to bring our husbands with us next time. 😊

beautiful home! excellent location.

well appointed with all amenities. We love the "indoor" bird feeder, beautiful porch, hidden in the mountains, private, beautiful decor. I especially appreciate extra towels for swimming. I would stay at this home again! Oh, the waterfall book was very useful. I recommend Sliding Rock, Deep River Cove near Saluda (tubing), Rainbow Falls hike... downtown Brevard.

A Place of Pure Magic

This house and property was so enchanting. It is just what we needed for a rest after a family reunion. It was very clean upon arrival which put me at ease instantly. There were deer (6 of them) next to the driveway to greet us. I loved being in the tress and nature. Totally relaxing. The covered porch was the best place to hang out. This house allowed us to make meals and watch a movie and we all fit on one sofa. I really cannot say enough positive things about this rental. We loved it and have already looked at the calendar to come back.

Fabulous place

Gorgeous getaway

This is a uniquely cozy mountain lodge in the middle of Pisgah Forest, with frequent visitors in the form of white squirrels, all kinds of birds and deer and a cute little creek at down the stairs behind the parking space. Idyllic! The kitchen was impressively well stocked, the beds comfortable and the views lovely! The location is ideal: Brevard as well as all kinds of stunning waterfalls are easily to reach. Thank you so much for making it possible for us to bring our little baby girl!!! Families with kids: consider bringing your own toys and books (e.g., we found all kinds of puzzle pieces in different game boxes). Maybe the house had been empty for a little while as we found it dusty quite a bit. Other than that, we spent a wonderful week and would always love to return!

Wonderful Mountain Retreat

Beautiful cabin. Had everything we needed and more. Had that cozy woodsy cabin feel (stream, deer, birds & white squirrels included) but really wasn’t that far away from town at all.

Fun Family Vacation!

This was our second stay at the White Squirrel Lodge and it was as memorable as the last and a family favorite! The white squirrels were definitely a hit with the kids! The cabin was well stocked with items we needed and the location was perfect for going to downtown Brevard and hiking nearby. Hanging out inside was comfortable and we really enjoyed the covered porch as well. We hope to visit again next year!

Now a little about us - We are Mark & Beverly. Beverly, is a retired teacher and spends her time quilting and enjoying her grandchildren. Mark is a retired businessman. He enjoys cooking, hiking and fishing. We both enjoy mountain life and great mountain music. All is found locally!

Varför värden valde detta boende

We purchased this property in 2010 as a part-time rental. It has everything we need and much more. Privacy, an abundance of both wild flowers and wildlife while being close to support services such as grocery, hardware, health & wellness providers. The cabin is very comfortable with multiple porches, lots of both sun and shade. The wildlife is amazing. We provide starter birdseed for three feeders and put starter corn on the hill behind the house to feed the deer. If you purchase sunflower bird seed and deer corn for the hill between the salt lick and tree you will continue to see wildlife daily. During the Summer we also have a Hummingbird feeder in full swing.

If you appreciate great music you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Steve Martin or The Steep Canyon Rangers ( both live and play music in Brevard)

Brevard is a charming vibrant community with a rich mountain heritage. It has a Liberal Arts College and a 400 student International Music College. The world’s best music teachers come from all over the world to teach students here. Often performances are available to the public.

Brevard is such a special town with multiple festivals (7). Beautiful lush foliage with many wildflowers and mountain vistas most everywhere you look. The third oldest river in the world (no kidding) The French Broad is located here. A Must See - In Pisgah National Forest there’s a school (The Cradle of Forestry) that was the beginning of forestry in the United States. Also a Fish Hatchery. Stop by the Visitor Center in the park and ask about “sliding rock”. The Pisgah Inn & restaurant is on the Blue Ridge Parkway towards Asheville. Almost always a waiting line as the food is great and the prices are reasonable. The glass walls offer diners panoramic sweeping vistas from far and wide.
Brevard downtown has no parking meters, great restaurants with reasonable prices and friendly helpful shopkeepers. It has one of the best hardware stores left in existence that has EVERYTHING you cannot find anywhere else.
Our neighborhood is secluded (in Hidden Valley) but very convenient to just about anywhere. Most everyone that visits seem to fall in love with the lodge and Brevard. We’re close to Asheville, Hendersonville the Blue Ridge Parkway and multiple state & national parks. Pack a picnic lunch and soak your toes in the Davidson River or take a dip at Sliding Rock. During the Fall apple season we recommend you visit Sky Top Apple Orchard just outside of Flat Rock. Take Crab Creek Rd for a beautiful drive.
