For decades, my best friend and I had planned on traveling to Italy together. After visiting the Umbria and Tuscany regions, we took a train into Naples. There, we planned to explore the city and then make our way to either Positano or Sorrento for a night. Those plans never materialized because we were unable to find transportation. Uber doesn't work there -- it defaults to a taxi service where no cars could ever be found. When I asked the host, Niki, about car services, he knew of none, although he does offer tours of his own.One rainy day, we walked to the taxi stand nearby and waited for almost an hour for a taxi that never came. The next day, we tried the Metro, something we had hoped to avoid. We're both over 70 and healthy but not familiar with subway systems. And sure enough, we had a very stressful situation; however, we made our way to the Centro area where we were shocked to find beautiful historic buildings covered with graffiti. The highlight of that day was a little restaurant recommended by the lovely hostess Monika. Tucked away amid the bustling narrow, cobblestoned streets, we found the best food we had in Naples -- Genovese pasta -- at Tandem Ragu. I highly recommend this place -- just be ready to walk, phone in hand for directions! We absolutely loved the apartment and found many delightful restaurants nearby, but we were basically stuck in that area. For those who have transportation and wish to explore beyond the area, it might be ideal.
