Great location and roomy!

This was a great home base for our girls trip to Amsterdam! Close to everything and plenty of space for us! I would stay here again!

Great location, great host.

Can immerse in a really nice urban canal neighborhood. Met our needs and more. OVi is a top host. Quick note: Learned from several people the old Amsterdam buildings are not allowed to install elevators. The stair flights would be difficult for older or disabled folks.

Great location!

The apartment was in a great location in the heart of Jordaan. The tram was right around the corner and lots of cafés, restaurants, and shops all around. Ovi and his wife could not have been more welcoming and accommodating to us and he was extremely responsive to us. They even left us some little treats! The only thing I would say that we were not aware of in the pictures was that if you have problems with steps, this could be tricky because there were a lot of steep steps to get up to the apartment.

Not as advertised

The property was in a good location but it was not as it looked in the pictures. The entrance was horrific with drywall broken and all over the floor. The place was in the 5th floor with no elevator. It was old and not in good shape at all. Calling this a penthouse and charging what they did was not right. Also, the owner met us upon arrival but insisted on coming in and spending 15 minutes with us explaining everything. A simple list of instructions would have sufficed. It was uncomfortable and if I was alone would have been unacceptable.

Hi Karen, I am totally in shock regarding the review you wrote. First of all, you actually told me that it was a great stay and secondly because some of the things you wrote are just untrue. The apartment is located on the third floor without an elevator as it is clearly listed this way on Vrbo, so I am sorry that you were not aware of this, but it is clearly mentioned in the listing. All my other reviews have been 5 stars from guests who absolutely loved it and never have I hear that the photos did not match the apartment…But the thing that shocks me the most, is your remark about the house tour. I always do the house tour myself as an act of service for my guests and provide them with a warm welcome from a local host which is of course more personal than just a letter on the table. This personal touch is usually the part that guests appreciate the most as I see my guests not as clients, but as family!

There’s Nothing Wrong With It

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Amsterdam! This apartment is in a fantastic location, close to a lot of great places! The host was very friendly and truly wanted us to have the best time! That being said, the apartment itself was a little less than advertised. The listing states that this is a “luxury apartment.” This was probably a luxury place back in 1995 but could stand to be upgraded. The apartment smelled like cigarettes as soon as you walked in. While we know smoking is popular in Europe, we just didn’t expect all the towels and bed linens to smell like someone smoked in all of them. There was also a general lack of cleanliness throughout, a vacuum could go a long way. The towels and sheets could also use an upgrade. Also, the host scared the crap out of all us by telling us that there are people that scale the outside of the building and will break in if we leave the windows open, so sadly the evenings were quite warm since there was no AC. That being said, the apartment was spacious and suitable to our needs.

Hi Alyssa, Thank you for taking the time to write me a review and your feedback! However I do want to respond to some of your remarks. The apartment is indeed smoke friendly which is also mentioned in the online listing. We did have other guests leaving, one day before your arrival, whom smoked in the apartment. We did leave the windows open after their check-out that day, but will take better notice for future bookings and buy some roomspray. I want to apologies for scaring you, but that was not my intention at all and just wanted to warn you about leaving the property unlocked, even though the apartment is located in a really safe neighborhood, which I assume you would expect from guests in your own house too. Lastly I am glad that you enjoyed your stay and liked the location, the apartment and my hospitality and you are always welcome anytime again!
